This 1978 Land Rover 109 Series III Hardtop is a classic long-wheelbase (LWB) off-road vehicle, part of the third generation of Land Rover's Series lineup, which was produced from 1971 to 1985. Prior to being imported to the United States, this Series III was subjected to a complete frame-off restoration, encompassing a zebra-printed exterior refinish over black upholstery. Powered by a 2.25L diesel inline-four, this safari-ready example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.
This 5-door variant, customized with a zebra-patterned exterior as part of the frame-off restoration, comes with a fixed roof, including a raised section for a safari-style look. Additional equipment includes steel bumpers, sliding side windows, alpine windows near the roofline for enhanced visibility and cabin openness, a hood-mounted spare tire, a rear-mounted spare tire, and steel wheels fitted with off-road tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Accommodating up to 10 occupants, the cabin has been reupholstered with black vinyl featuring Land Rover embossed seats. The seating arrangement includes first and second-row bench seating along with rear inward-facing folding benches. Other equipment includes Jaeger instrumentation, a three-spoke steering wheel, padded upper and lower dashboard components, and rubber floor mats.
Beneath the bonnet lies a 2.25L diesel inline-four engine generating as much as 61 HP and 103 lb.-ft of torque stock. All four wheels are driven through a 4-speed manual gearbox and dual-range transfer case. No outstanding maintenance items have been reported.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This is a very special Land Rover, ready for a safari!”

@tnt2mc2 - no air conditioning
@edgy4sure - no air conditioning
@tnt2mc2 hell, we live in SWFL, A/C is mandatory (it's why I really can't get an older air-cooled P-car)
As the world warms up, a/c becomes a necessity rather than a luxury when inside a metal box...
@edgy4sure Wow, I just thought of asking the same thing
No A/C, correct?

@TheVintageCarGuy - Good Morning...yes there is a reserve BUT it is very low. Put in your max bid and you never know......
Reminds me of the classic late '60's TV series Daktari. Sure wish this was a No Reserve. With zero comments and zero bids, I would surely bid with high hopes of getting a steal of a deal. I could buy a pith helmet and cruise the local cars and coffee. But alas, it has a reserve, which I'm sure is way above my limit for a whimsical purchase. Glwta
