Available for auction is this 1977 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser finished in Heath Grey over a Saddle vinyl and plaid interior. Produced from 1960 through 1984, the FJ40 series made the Land Cruiser name synonymous with reliability, sturdiness, and off-roading capability. This 1977 example was originally purchased and owned in Louisiana and spent time in Mississippi and Florida before being acquired by its fourth and current owner. It was subsequently treated to a frame-off restoration in 2018 which included a full repaint, a rebuild of its 350ci Chevrolet engine, reupholstered interior, and the replacement of various parts, bushing, and mounts. This FJ40 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.
During the restoration, the body was separated from the frame and stripped to bare metal before being refinished in Heath Grey. It features a full-length bikini-style top in tan mounted to a custom dual roll bar setup. The seller notes there are no doors or hardtop included. It rides on a set of 15” painted wheels dressed in a set of BF Goodrich K02 tires.
The front bucket seats and rear bench have been reupholstered in Saddle vinyl from Kovi Fabrics and feature plaid cloth inserts. During the restoration, the tub was sprayed with Wurth undercoating and painted for durability. Details include a 3-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel, a locking center console with armrest, a fold-down windshield, and a custom-built 4-speaker sound system with a Sony marine head unit. The seller confirms all gauges, electronics, and accessories remain functional apart from the windshield washer pump. The odometer was replaced with a unit reading in kilometers, true mileage is unknown.
Power comes from a 350ci Chevrolet V8 small block engine equipped with FiTech fuel injection. All four wheels are driven by a 4-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case. The engine was reportedly swapped under previous ownership and was rebuilt during the restoration along with reseals of the transmission and transfer. Additional restoration work included new body mounts, bushings, leaf springs, Bilstein shocks, and power steering retrofit. The seller notes several oil and filter changes have been performed since the restoration, and adds that there is a small oil leak at the rear main seal.
This sale will include a clean title.

I’ve spent a fair amount of time around this rig, going back to the original purchase and restoration by this owner. It was meticulously RE-done and, most important, tastefully. Owner/seller is a true enthusiast, currently has a 74 911 hot rod he’s restoring and a fairly extensive collection in the family including an m491 cab, 356, 993 cab just to name a few. Confident any buyer would be more than pleased with the transport truck when the doors open…
Just a note on the mileage for the bidders, this vehicle had about 77,000 miles on it when I purchased it. The old ODO was functional but looked terrible. At that time, the ROW / KM cluster was the only thing I could get. For that reason, I listed it at TMU but it should be somewhere right around 91,000.
