We are pleased to present this 1977 Porsche 911 Turbo Carrera finished in Ice Green Metallic over a green interior.  Reported to be one of only 727 Porsche 911 Turbos delivered to the U.S. for the model year, this 1977 example was purchased by its original owner in Oakland California who kept the car up until the seller’s recent purchase in 2019.  During the 1990s it received a Porsche 3.6 L flat-six 964 engine along with a G50 5-speed manual transmission and upgraded Brembo brakes.  Offering naturally aspirated air-cooled performance along with the iconic styling of the original 911 Turbo, this custom 930 is now being offered for auction by its second owner out of Southern California accompanied by original books and a collection of records.

This 930 is presented in its highly desirable factory-specified color of Ice Green Metallic.  The car is said to have been partially refinished over the course of its life and the paint is said to be in good condition overall with some cosmetic imperfections as shown in the photo gallery.  This Turbo Carrera features a whale tail rear decklid, a front spoiler, fog lights, pop-out rear quarter windows, chrome window moldings, a sunroof, rear wiper, and classic Fuchs wheels with polished outer rims.  New front tires are reported to have been mounted and balanced in 2018.

The green leather interior features black carpeting, custom Turbo script floormats, and an aftermarket 3-spoke steering wheel.  An invoice from 1996 shows the installation of a new carpet kit, shift knob, door stop, and pedal assembly. Some signs of wear and age are present, and all gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional including the aftermarket radio and upgraded speakers.

In 1996 the original turbocharged engine in this 930 was swapped out in favor of a naturally aspirated 3.6 L flat-six paired with a G50 5-speed manual transmission sourced from Parts Heaven out of a Porsche 964 Targa. The engine is said to have had approximately 18k miles at the time of installation and the entire conversion was carried out by P.B.R. Restoration of Crockett, California. A supporting invoice can be found in the photo gallery along with images of the underside. Through records and correspondence with P.B.R. , the seller has determined the engine to have approximately 35k miles at this time. Upgraded Brembo 928 S4 front brakes are equipped and a major service was carried out in April of 2018 under the original ownership which included the following items:

  • Air, Fuel, and Oil Filters
  • Spark Plugs
  • Distributor Caps and Rotors
  • Fan Belts
  • Valve Cover Gaskets
  • CV Joint Boots
  • Oxygen Sensor
  • Smog Test (Pass)
  • Leak Down Test (Less than 10% on all cylinders)

This sale will include the original owner’s manuals and stamped warranty book, service records, the original tools and spare tire, a vintage tire pressure gauge, and a clean title.  The ideal Porsche 911 for an avid air-cooled driving enthusiast, this 3.6 L 930 offers a very special opportunity.

Want to thank all who bid and commented on this truly one of a kind 911. I am going to remove the reserve and the car will sell to the highest bidder so don't miss out!! Looking forward to meeting the new owner.

What a beautiful example of a timeless classic. They just don't make cars like this anymore - analog mechanics, bold design, petrol engine, solid build materials. Someone will really enjoy this car, it's truly the last of its breed.

  • ninerliebe (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

Took the car out for a last spin on Pacific Coast Hwy at sunset yesterday. It’s such an exhilarating car. The sound. The vintage Porsche smell; and can’t forget about the speed!!
It brings a smile to my face every time I get behind the wheel, I also end up getting stopped and having a conversation with a porsche enthusiast every time I take her out to stretch her legs.

I’m really going to miss this car, and hope it goes to a good home.

I’m here to answer any questions until the end of the auction in 3 hours.

One of my all time favorite P cars.
I have a 77-930 same color combo but with plaid inserts. I’d like to do a photo shoot with whoever wins this beauty if it ends up near Los Angeles.

I saw the car...very nice inside and out.....minor paint work needed on top of rear bumper...
The owner would not let me drive the car...and I drove up in my Panamera Turbo...so go figure that !

I'm really curious to see the result of this car compared to the M491 car that is also on pcar. This one is a genuine 930 Turbo chassis with a trouble-free NA 3.6L swap and G50 transmission. Combine that with a unique color combo and I expect this car will end well outside my price range.

The other car is a turbo-look car with sunroof delete, but all stock with the 3.2L (also great reputation for reliability) and a 915 transmission. The M491 cars always bring a premium, as do sunroof deletes.

Between the two (as much as I love the sunroof delete) I'm in love with this car.

@Pitt-Stig Hi @Pitt-Stig there isn’t any oil hitting the garage floor, it just has your typical aircooled seepage, a little here and there.
    2) PBR performed a leak down test within the last 2k miles which turned out great.

I am happy to take the car in for an inspection if anyone would still like to have it looked at.

Let me know if you have any questions or if would like anything else pictured.
    Thank you!

@seller- a few more questions for you: 1) Any idea on pinpointing the oil leak or is it the general air cooled little bit here, little bit there? 2) Do you have any compression test info? 3) Could we see a cold start video with a look at the exhaust (or at least as cold as it gets in Orange County)?

  • ninerliebe (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@Tim997TT Yes, you are welcome to see it in person! Where would you be coming from?

  • ninerliebe (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@Phardie1 Yes, it was an original turbo car but the engine, transmission and brakes were replaced with OEM Porsche parts. Please refer to the receipt from PBR for more of the specifics:)

Can I come and see the car..
    Thanks

  • Phardie1 (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

Am I understanding this correctly? This was an original turbo car but not anymore and front end/ brakes are not OEM?

  • ninerliebe (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@cord4530 I will need to ask PBR what the $3250 repair entails and get back to you. As for the ac and heating system please refer to my response to @JNasty.
    Thanks for the interest!

  • ninerliebe (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@JNasty 1) these factory fuchs are 16” 2) from my understanding the compressor was never installed when the 930 received the 3.6 motor. There are still some ac components that are in tact and photos of these items are going to be uploaded shortly.
    3) everything is working on the car as it should, including all electrical components with the exception of the Blaupunkt microphone and the 8-track tape deck since the head unit was upgraded. Although.. they might still work if the next owner sources a compatible head unit!

    4) The mileage is known to be original/accurate, however Pcar needed to note “TMU” since the miles on the motor and miles on the chassis are different.

    Thanks @JNasty for the questions!

  • XHILLR8 (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

@ninerliebe what was the reasoning for the engine swap?

  • ninerliebe (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@lee88 engine bay photos coming right up!

  • ninerliebe (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@Legendary thank you for the question, the original motor doesn’t come with the car.

  • ninerliebe (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

@lee88 thank you for replying. Exactly! The chassis mileage is known to be original/accurate, however Pcar needed to note the TMU since the miles on the motor don’t match the miles on the chassis

  • ninerliebe (seller) 4 years, 1 monthago

    Hello Pcar bidders!
My father and I purchased this car from the original owner two years ago and it’s been absolute joy to own.

Happy to answer any questions or add any photos/ videos so that the next owner can bid with confidence.

  • cord4530 (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

Back in 1995 there is a line on the last P.B.R. receipt for $3250 in bodywork. Do you know what was done at that time?

I'm also interested in engine photos, and have questions about the functionality of heating and A/C systems.

  • lee88 (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

    @JNasty - for 1977 the 930s all got 16" Fuchs, slight difference from '75-76 which had 15".

Also I'll let the seller respond but just an FYI generally speaking a car with an engine swap like this gets sold with a "TMU" since the odometer reading may not correspond to either the mileage on the chassis and/or motor.

  • lee88 (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

Can we see some engine bay photos? Thanks.

  • Legendary (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

@seller. Does the car’s original 930 turbo engine come with the car?

  • Wheedoggie 4 years, 1 monthago

Bid in the amount of $13,000

  • JNasty (registered bidder) 4 years, 1 monthago

@seller - a few QQs please: 1) are those factory Fuchs? Would have been 15" on 77 correct? 16" on 78+. yes? 2) AC work? 3) anything NOT working on the car? 4) Why TMU?
