This is a street/track legal Outlaw tribute to the iconic 911 Carrera RSR race cars of the early International Race of Champions (IROC) series, this 1977 Porsche 911S underwent a full custom restoration completed in 2022 by Air Cooled Classics. This no-expense-spared build features steel fender flares and IROC bodywork along with a custom racing-style interior, Rotiform 917 forged 3-piece wheels, Bilstein/Tarett suspension, "Big Red" 993 brakes, a newly built transmission, and a 3.3-liter 964 twin-plug engine. Purchased by the seller on PCARMARKET in 2023 and recently serviced with a new fuel cell and rebuilt carburetors, this 911 is now being offered for auction out of Florida.

During the restoration, paint and bodywork was completed by Mike Coy of Gas Monkey Garage in Texas. The car was completely disassembled and fitted with wide steel fenders, fiberglass IROC-style bumpers, and an IROC-style rear wing. The underbody is coated with Raptor protective bedliner material and the car is finished in the modern Porsche color of Chalk. Other features include yellow glass H4 headlights with LED bulbs, clear signal and taillight lenses with colored LED bulbs, aluminum windshield tabs and rear window straps, lightweight polycarbonate windows, vented rear quarter windows, retractable Rennline front tow hook, 935-style mirrors with drilled and powder coated outer door handles. The car rides on a set of Porsche 917-style wheels by Rotiform that are forged 3 piece type measuring 9”x17” with TOYO 245/45Rs in front and 11”x17” 315/35s in the rear.

The cabin has been painted to match the exterior and fitted with black RS carpeting along with a full GT Competition roll cage and fitted with custom color matching Recaro Pole Position seats trimmed in grey suede with painted backrests and multicolor Carrera cloth inserts. Other additions include custom lightweight carbon fiber look aluminum door panels, carbon fiber dashboard, a MOMO C6 Prototipo steering wheel, 911R-style window pulls, aluminum Rennline pedals and floorboards, a custom 917 maple wood shift knob, removable driver window net, a carbon-faced tattletale tachometer, dash-mounted shift indicator light, and custom dashboard switches including a push to start button. Racing safety equipment includes new 5-point harnesses, an electrical cutoff switch, a Fuel Safe 17-gallon fuel cell, and a Lifeline fire suppression system.

Based on a 964 motor, this 911 features a 3.3-liter flat-six engine with twin-plug heads, a shuffle-pinned case, Raceware head studs, JE 11:1 pistons, Pauter titanium connecting rods, Daugherty racing cam, titanium valves and spring retainers, ASCO valve springs, PMO 50mm carburetors with tall manifold, a JB Racing twin plug distributor, MSD digital ignition boxes with blaster coils, Taylor 8mm plug wires, and an RSR stainless lightweight engine mount bar with solid mounts. The exhaust headers are made from 1.75” diameter stainless steel with dual 2” Supertramp mufflers and mounts. The cooling system incorporates SST side oil lines and a large "CSF" RSR front-mounted oil cooler. A newly rebuilt aluminum 915 5-speed manual gearbox drives the rear wheels and features a limited-slip differential, solid mounts, and a Rennshift short shifter. Under the seller's ownership, a new fuel cell has been installed, the carburetors have been rebuilt, and the gearbox and engine oil have been changed.

The chassis is reinforced with RSR stiffening plates, gussets, and bars. The suspension includes standard A-arms with bronze Tarett race bearings and Bilstein strut assemblies with raised spindles and a Rebel Racing coilover setup. The front end also features Turbo tie rods with RSR spacers, a rebuilt steering rack, a 22mm Tarett through-body sway bar with adjustable ends, Tarett adjustable upper strut mounts, Tarett offset ball joints, an aluminum crossbar, and tie-down plates. In the rear, aluminum control arms are paired with Tarett spherical bushings, new hub bearings, rebuilt axles, Bilstein Sport coilovers, and an adjustable 22mm Tarett sway bar. Stopping power comes from upgraded Porsche 993 calipers with two-piece front floating rotors, rear custom lightweight two-piece rotors, stainless steel lines, cooling scoops, and a 23mm vacuum-assisted master cylinder.

This sale will include a clean Tennessee title.

    It's a great,fun Hotrod!
The market has been down this year!
After the election things will get better!
We're building car for a better next year. One is the Gray Ghost 2 a 934 4.0L/G50

  • Wuliangye (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

This is a very interesting car. It can fit into 4 categories Tribute, Outlaw, Hot Rod, Track Car. My opinion it's a Tribute. A great build, with a motor and transmission that could make it a track monster. If you're not a true car guy with track experience it's not for you. So it limits the marketability. Could very well be the reason why the car sold within a short period of ownership. Not everyone would enjoy this ride. It's exactly what I look for and at the current price a bargain. Would not be surprised if the receipts are available there is close to $200,000.00 invested in this build. Wish I had more space to store!

Sorry boys, going to take a bit more than that to get it done. Happy hunting!

OK, I see the other comments now, Peter Dawe did some motors for me , so if he built it , its right!

  • Upshift4 (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

The engine sounds very trick but why take a 3.6 lt and shrink it to a 3.3 lt?

  • Henriconez (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

I personally saw the vehicle running and I can attest it's a beautiful engineered machine. Its well tuned and a head turner everywhere it goes. Dealer is well known in South Florida with always cool and turn key machines. Bid with confidence as this Gray Ghost screams to be driven, literally! Keys on!

where did you get that PORSCHE sticker on the side doors? Or is that painted on?

  • rmcmiami (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

    @kevcarxtr

Front splitter is 4 1/2” from the ground, if this it too low it does have adjustable coilovers and can be raised to accommodate your surroundings.

@chipper This car was built by the person listed in the comment section who originally sold it along with a link he posted to the entire process from rolling chassis to prior engine condition to step by step process down rebuilding every component to the finish product. The previous owner also chimed in as far as his experience with us and why he traded this car in. We’ve posted a video showcasing the cars performance as well as we can on a public road. Nothing to hide here.

Clearly didn’t take a minute to look at that and just jumped straight conclusion. Our reviews say a different story as do our social media reviews directly from people enjoying their cars daily, from track side to c&c. Early on mistakes have were made, 5 out of 5k cars we’ve had issues with, because of this salesman have been let go so there is nothing lost in translation. Anyone here is capable of contacting us and id love to have a lengthy detailed conversation about the car, ask what there driving style is like, previous experience, where they plan on driving it and what there goals are with it… we take alot of time post-sale making hotrods more personalized, common sense would be to find a car you see yourself potentially building and/or making a few changes to make your own. All the hard work here has been taken care of. Remove stickers, change wheels, whatever. Take it how you want.

This car needs a set of 200tw tires, Agressive alignment and a capable driver. If the car brings the reserve price I’ll add a 915 to the pot so you can build a shorter ratio box. This current one is perfect for the street, highway, fast track, fast sweepers. A back up short track/ technical backroads trans is something I’d have as well considering how easy this car is to drop the trans.

  • kevcarxtr (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

@rmcmiami, can you measure the ground clear at at the front splitter?

  • Chipper (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

@wanna123 well said, that’s why they make 2 stroke and 4 stroke. I’m a 2 stroke guy, very much like this ghost, it feels like a banshee.

  • rmcmiami (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

@kevcarxtr they are removable, there are pictures pre full assembly with no decals.

  • kevcarxtr (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

Not all street cars want bottom end TQ it all depends on how the car is set up. Yes, TQ gives that off the line feel but depending on what the car is intended for less TQ and more higher end actually helps and makes the car more drivable at speed. It's all a balance between what the customer or driver wants. Ferrari's don't have 500FTLBS of TQ.

  • Montegue (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

Yes, this looks well done indeed!

  • 911Deany (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

@cheungms Hello, I was the previous owner from 2023. The only reason I let this Gem go was RMCmiami had a car I couldn't resist. I felt this car deserved to be spirited driven and/or tracked which I just didn't have to will to do, so I traded her in. The Grey Ghost is a very thrilling pcar and breaks Alotta necks on the street.

  • cheungms (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

Curious why the quick turnaround from purchase in 2023 to sale in 2024?

  • bahnstorm02 3 months, 3 weeksago

"Be still my beating heart", forgive the pun but this one stings to the core....this creation is absolutely amazing. Great, now I'm off to see what I can sell body parts for.

  • rmcmiami (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

@Tferrer We are saying it is a race motor, the way you asked seemed like you needed a bit of knowledge as to why it was done, and the comment could’ve been directed to anyone who thought the same. The original builder in the comments also says it’s a race motor retuned and detuned to street duty with lower compression and less aggressive cams.

  • TFerrer (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

@rmcmiami it's common for a race motor. Not a street car where displacement = torque and driveablity is at a premium over all out hp at 5-7k. I do appreciate your salesmanship though. ;-)

  • rmcmiami (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

@Sahm stickers/decals are all removable. As far as registering in California without a friend to “hot-smog” that will be difficult. There is a few shops who I’ve seen register carbureted cars TLG being one of them… but I am in FL after all.

  • rmcmiami (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

@garden38 ah, I see now lol. Someone’s autocorrect function is working over time!

  • ThePorscheDoc (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

This engine was in a serious PCA class GT3 race car when we got it.

  • Garden38 (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

@rmcmiami OK, am I the only one old enough to remember the Band "Supertramp"? And I have used the Supertrapp mufflers in the past on a 4R 911. Was just having a little fun on the misspelling of the mufflers. Again, this is a stunning car that the new owner will have fun with.

  • Michaelscheid25 3 months, 3 weeksago

  • Sahm (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

Wow, this is such a beautiful 911. And it sounds AMAZING. What color is this exactly? Also, are the "porsche" wordmarks easily removable? What would it take to have a chance at smog in CA? :D
Would be super interested if a little visual simplification was easily within reach

  • rmcmiami (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

@TFerrer it is common to make 3.6L a “short stroke”. The rave now a days is to just have a slip on P/C to show off how big your displacement is. People spend $40k on a 3.8L build to make little to no power difference.

Dawes Motorsport originally made this combination of this exact engine (very decorated race shop). During the cars restoration it was tweaked for pump gas and drivability while keeping all the go fast things in place by @ThePorscheDoc by dropping compression 2 points.

Advantages of a short stroke are throttle response, higher rpm, nicer powerband and high speed cruising. Most importantly the sound it makes, incredibly a 3-1 header set up some how sounds perfectly in conjunction after 7k rpm as if it were a 6-1. I’ll try and upload another video I have stashed that captures this specifically.

Hopefully Don can shed some light on this as well.

  • TFerrer (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

So you took a 3.6l and made it smaller?

  • rmcmiami (seller) 3 months, 3 weeksago

@garden38 check out the video link, there's a few clips of it singing! we love how it sounds era correct as well, exactly what you'd want a Iroc to sound like!

  • Garden38 (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

I'll bet that those dual 2" "Supertramp" mufflers really sing while going through the gears to 8000! Started with a 964 motor and ended up with 3.3ltr? Great color and an overall beautiful car.

  • ThePorscheDoc (registered bidder) 3 months, 3 weeksago

Here is the complete picture file on the Gray Ghost build!👍
