Commissioned as a custom RSR-inspired restoration by Zurlinden Gruppe in Monterey, California, this 1977 Porsche 911S build was commenced in 2015 including a long hood backdate, steel fender flares, and a full repaint in its original Continental Orange color. The cabin was completely redone with woven leather RS-style door panels and sports seats in Italian leather with tartan weave inserts. Power comes from a rebuilt 3.6-liter Porsche 993 engine with individual throttle bodies and GT3-style intake plenum, while the reinforced chassis includes an Elephant Racing coilover suspension. Completed in 2017 and with just over 1,500 miles driven since, this custom 911S is now being offered for auction on behalf of its owner out of Florida.
During the restoration, this 911S was stripped to bare metal and subject to a multi-stage Glasurit repaint in its rare factory-original color of Continental Orange (107). The bodywork was backdated with a long hood nose section and fitted with reproduction butt-welded “2.8 RSR” steel fender flares as well as fiberglass RSR-style bumpers, a fiberglass ducktail spoiler, H4 headlights, and Fuchs RSR-style Fikse wheels measuring 17”x9” in front and 17”x11” in the rear. The car wears clear paint protection film over the hood, fenders, front bumper, and rockers as well as portions of the rear flares and bumper. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin has been completely re-trimmed in black and grey Italian Nappa leather including woven RS-style door panels and sport seats with tartan weave inserts. Other features include a MOMO Prototipo steering wheel, lightweight RS carpeting, aluminum pedals, and upgraded electric air-conditioning with dual condensers.
This 911S derives power from a Porsche 993 flat-six rebuilt to original 3.6-liter specifications and upgraded with coil-on-plug ignition, an M&K GT3-style muffler, MoTeC M84 engine management, a center-mount oil cooler, and Rasant individual throttle bodies including a GT3-style plenum. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed 915 manual gearbox with a limited-slip differential, external oil cooler, and Wevo shifter. The chassis has been reinforced and fitted with Elephant Racing Stage 1 coilover suspension including polybronze bushings and Weltmeister hollow sway bars.
This sale will include a clean California title.

Thank you very much P-Car bidders, I am so excited by the obvious love and appreciation there is for this car. It truly is a great car with all the right bits for a lively and stylish car that is awesome in the canyons, at home on the freeway, and poised around town. We’re ready to sell this car today, let’s keep going folks! THANK YOU!!

@broughtagarage I drove a couple of hours to see the car and in my opinion the paint job was excellent with no flaws and the PPF has done its job. Very striking color in person.
Bid in the amount of $186,000
@broughtagarage Great question! There are zero miles on the paint before the PPF was applied. The car was painted and given nearly 8-weeks to cure before we added PPF. Furthermore, because of body & paint investment is why the owner chose to protect such broad areas. Though, one could certainly cover an entire car…..some do it.
@marcz Are there any paint issues or road debris damage anywhere? Has the PPF done its job and the paint is flawless underneath?
Fantastic car!

@Bull993tt, dyno is best saved for when we’ve finished all the street tuning. There are all kinds of real world conditions/situations that are difficult if not impossible to replicate on a dyno, so we give it a base tune that we know is a good starting point and go for a drive. The MoTec is closed-loop system so we’re able to tune with rapid results and the ECU can do its job keeping things within parameters. A dyno is very good for getting out the last bit of power and finally quantify the output.
Sorry that was the” likely to break head studs ( stock ones = uncoated Dilivar) .
@marcz. Thanks for the info. I don’t recall having heard of aTom A but that doesn’t mean much. It could be worth your effort to share new pistons and cylinders, upgraded Rod bolts or upgraded rods in those dainty 993 rods , changing out the likely rod break head studs, all new guides and maybe some valves themselves, upgraded springs or retainers… you know all the wear out parts like ramps , bearings etc. This could show a great job vs perhaps a patch w some new rings and reseal. Would take a minute to thumb through the receipts…
I don’t think a Gt3 had monoballs in the Suspension until this years gt3 RS trying to chase records at “ The Ring” ( manufacturers go bonkers for this press today) and a 993 did have 1 , in what 18 pivot or mounting points In The whole suspension? I haven’t driven a Singer or a Gunther car so cannot report in harshness but you did share your shock selection seems to make a comfy ride , great.
Cam question guy- if these are stock pistons one cannot put much cam in at all as you lack piston to valve clearance and that would at minimum require pockets be cut in the pistons, plus if the rod bolts are stock, last thing you want to do it raise the RPM limiter ( which helps you use the cam for higher rpm power) above the 6600 range set stock. Those stock 993 rods are sketchy and the only type we ever had break without spinning a bearing first. GLWS
Hi Marcz, I know you commented earlier that the 993 donor motor was not dyno'ed. However, the engine management is MOTEC which requires a custom tune. If the car or engine was not dyno'ed, how did they tune it and who did the tune?

Folks, sorry for the fluffy sounding audio in the startup and drive away……our microphone was damaged during the shoot of the original film and this video shot with my cell phone. Unfortunately it’s not until the car gets some distance until it begins to sound correct, with a great low grumble/growl that grows into a melodious roar with engine speed. M&K makes fantastic stainless steel mufflers!
@Wmkevin7, I would offer the winning bidder preferred pricing for a cam swap, which would be less than $10k
@moregas, since your are a shop in SoCal doing a lot of similar/same work, hopefully you’ll approve of Tom Amon as being a knowledgeable and reputable engine rebuilder from the San Francisco Bay Area. He completely rebuilt the engine for the owner and receipts for such will be supplied to the winning bidder. The suspension is another area where this car excels but not at the expense of ride quality. Elephant Racing did an outstanding job valving these coilovers to take out harshness. As you know, the use of monoballs in street cars is vast, such as factory GT3 upper mounts, factory lower rear A-arm 993, Singer and Guntherwerks, numerous other builders like me/you, etc, where monoballs are indeed utilized in street form. Indeed the monoballs are more of a maintenance item than typical rubber, but this car is built with a purpose in mind and such items are key to that recipe.
@marcz Is there an invoice or receipt for what was replaced “rebuilt” in the engine?
A 993 engine could be 27 years old and it would help your sale if you shared what work was done and maybe by whom?
I mentioned, monoball bearings as in the trailing arm pivots , - are they bearing or rubber bushings? As you see the outers pivots are a 935 style spring plate w a large 3/4 bearing, great for control and no flex- distortion under load, however these can be noisy and harsh for road use. Are the front strut top mounts monoballs , or rubber bushings? These 4 or 6 points can add a lot of control for a racecar which is all I use them in, I wonder how rough a streeter would be with them more solid?
How much do you estimate it would cost to add the cams?
We have uploaded the alignment spec this morning, please look for it to be added to the gallery soon. I believe what you are seeing is perhaps some skewed camera angle..... Indeed, however, the alignment is set somewhat aggressive for the driver who wants it.
We did not Dino this engine however it is a stock 993 except for the addition of the intake, engine management, and exhaust. For this project, budget dollars were spent elsewhere and the cams would be a nice upgrade for the new owner. That said, this engine is incredibly peppy and with great torque. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect this engine is making somewhere in the 290 HP range, perhaps more, given these upgrades.
The elephant Racing poly bronze bushings are a nice street upgrade without adding much road noise. You're hearing the engine more In this car than anything else.
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
What a lovely color. Can the seller share whether the cams have been charged in this engine , and is there a build sheet for what was changed in the rebuild? Also whether there is a dyno sheet? Calif smog will be tough if much camshaft was used, but also that is paramount to making higher power since someone went through all the trouble and expense to upgrade the intake and engine management system.
Is there an alignment sheet on the car as that LR appears to have a whole bunch of negative camber ? Lastly , how noisy - rough is the ride w all the solid bearings in the suspension? Are inner trailing arm monoballs also rose joints? Thank you
@broughtagarage @broughtagarage, thanks for the link very, very helpful info/background. Although BAT is like a ‘puppymill’ for cars at times, they do get the eyeballs and lots of great intel.
Hello and thank you for all the compliments! I’m glad the video has been such a hit!! We will be adding another video and pics shortly……
@broughtagarage Yes, the car was BaT last year with extremely lackluster results. We felt there could have been some market issues at the time but I personally wanted to add the interior details that you took care and noticed, thank you! Woven Italian Nappa leather on early style Sport seats, with an offset pattern on the door cards. These features bring life and style to the otherwise racy previous interior. Additionally, we added an electric air conditioning system with dual condensors to make it extra cold.
This car is built to be driven as a great weekend tourer or occasional run to the office or errand - very sporting and rewarding yet easy to drive.
@marcz wonderful car.
Looks like this one was listed on BAT last year: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1977-porsche-911-26/
Appears that there were some interior mods, door cards, seats, etc. Any other changes since then?
Only 100 miles put on the car in 10 months? Wow.

Beautiful car. May I recommend that you remove the music from your video. It sucks. The mechanical sounds of the car are music enough.
Great build, great photos, great presentation! Probably more car and performance then I need but will be watching intensely.
Agree with Jdshap. Kill the music. How about a cold start vid and a vid walk around?
Also, can you advise on approx how many miles on the chassis and the donor 993 motor?
Thank you!
Can we lose the music on the video ? I think we are all here to hear the motor / car.
