This 1977 Porsche 911S Targa, acquired by the current owner 28 years ago, was factory-specified with an Ice Green Metallic finish over Cork leather upholstery. It features optional headlight washers, front fog lamps, and a leather steering wheel. The car has undergone a bare metal refinish and has been upgraded with a 3.2-liter flat-six engine from a 1988 Carrera. Additional enhancements include an additional front oil cooler, front and rear spoilers, stainless steel oil lines, polished Fuchs wheels, and more. Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this 911S Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.

This 911S Targa received a bare metal repaint in its factory-specified Ice Green Metallic approximately 15 years ago. The process included removing the bumpers, windshield, and Targa glass while leaving the door jambs, trunk, and engine areas untouched. All rubber seals, including those for the Targa top, were replaced. Optional equipment includes headlight washers and white rectangular fog lamps below the front bumper. The car rides on factory 15” Fuchs wheels that have been refinished, polished, and wrapped in Falken tires. An aftermarket front spoiler and rear “whale tail” have also been fitted. Hardly noticeable stone chips on the front bumper are noted, and detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report.

The cabin was originally optioned with Cork leather upholstery and a leather steering wheel.  The seller adds that an Eclipse stereo with a CD changer fitted below the passenger seat has been installed along with an air conditioning compressor with lines and under-dash vents. The original head unit is said to accompany the sale. Slight wear on the driver’s seat is noted and the carpet is said to remain in like-new condition. The CD changer functions intermittently, and the oil tank reader remains stuck at a high level. However, all other gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be in proper working order.

Approximately 13 years ago, a 3.2-liter flat-six engine from a 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera with around 38k miles was installed. About 6 years ago, a top-end rebuild was performed, followed by the fitment of an additional front oil cooler, stainless steel oil lines, a K&N air filter, Koni externally adjustable sport shocks, a Stromski shift coupler, and a Schnell bypass pipe. The seller adds that a host of receipts and documentation will accompany the sale.

This sale will include a clean title, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a collection of documentation.

Hi everyone, I was able to upload a video today. The drive occurred this morning, Sunday, May 26th. It was about 11:30. The car was cold and you can see this from the oil temp gauge. At the end of the drive, 12 minutes, oil temp was at 170. On a lengthy drive on a 80 degree day, high oil temp when driving is about 195. The video shows going through the gears several times. Sorry about having to hold the camera and drive.

  • trmatur (seller) 1 monthago

I did a good video this 🌄. 6 minutes 28 seconds. Hasn't been uploading. Will continue to try

  • Gtwr20 (registered bidder) 1 monthago

Getting down to serious bid time. Will you be able to post running through the gears?

  • trmatur (seller) 1 monthago

They are drilled through. I just attached pictures. The screws for attachment to the brackets are there as well.

  • Chipper (registered bidder) 1 monthago

The original deck lid has the early Porsche letters added. Have holes been drilled in the lid or are they stuck on? Can you add a pic from the inside?

  • trmatur (seller) 1 monthago

The electrical is good. I really have not driven it in the rain. You are correct, zinc coated. There is no rust and when repainted, there was no need for rust repair. All panels are original to the car as is the glass. Heat exchangers are good. When the 3.2 was put in I made sure we had heat. All the fans work, but there is a squeak on defroster fan.

  • urfealex (registered bidder) 1 monthago

Nice older 911. I assume that electricals are in good order as are the heat exchangers, fans etc. Very interested in this car. I agree that the 915 trans is very good, if not abused. I think starting in 1977 these were dipped in zinc. However, are there any rust issues. Thanks in advance for the response.

Please let me know what additional pictures you want.

  • trmatur (seller) 1 monthago

The original deck lid was painted at the same time as the rest of the car. In regards to the transition, I really don't have specifics on how it was done, but, I can provide more pictures if you tell me what you want to see. Know that the 3.2 has been in this car for 14 years. It has been flawless. A couple more informational items. The axles were replaced and I have the OE axles still. Nothing was wrong with them. I just thought better replace them due to age. Same thing for the all 4 brake calipers, replaced with ate oe. Brake pads are pagid, and slotted rotors.

  • trmatur (seller) 1 monthago

To respond to the g50 vs 915. When I bought the 3.2 I asked my mechanic about putting a G50 on it. His response to me was it would be more complicated to do the switch and that I recall him saying it doesn't fit well into the narrow body. Since I have owned this car for over 20 years, I can tell you I pretty much babied it. I have never been abusive on the transmission. When I was doing the 3.2 switch he told me the 915 was less complicated and very solid. The issue on 915s is when the syncos become worn. This car has no issue and the j- west gated shifter has improved the shift process tremendously over the oe sloppy shifter. In regards to down shift from 2nd to 1st. I never do that. I only shift into 1st when stopped. It's raining here now. I am happy to video the shifting of the car if this is valuable to you. Weather looks better tomorrow

Sorry you’re getting all these comments and a few bids. My first question is did the original deck get painted at the same time the body was done?

I have an SC so I am familiar that the 3.0 was an improvement on the 2.7 and that the 3.2 was a further improvement. I am not at all familiar with the challenges and risks of putting the 3.2 into the 1977 2.7 bay. Is there any possibility you could provide information as to the spirit guide you use for this transition? I have a strong interest in this car. I find it hard to resist green 911s.

  • RoboAC 1 monthago

Hi again, is the transmission a G50 or 915 ?
How does it shift when slowing down and going into 2nd and 1st ?
Has the transmission been rebuilt ?

  • trmatur (seller) 1 monthago

Yes, the clutch was replaced when the 3.2 was put in. I put the new Falkin Zoex 950's on 5 years ago.

  • croutons (registered bidder) 1 monthago

Has the clutch been replaced and how old are the tires?

  • trmatur (seller) 1 monthago

Going back to adding oil, it doesn't burn oil. I watch the level and like all air cooled engines, I keep the level around half on the dip stick.

  • trmatur (seller) 1 monthago

There has been no need for a valve adjustment since the top end rebuild. I did do valve adjustments regularly when it had the original 2.7l motor.

  • trmatur (seller) 1 monthago

Last year I drove it about 500 miles. I have a second Porsche and an M3 convertible and that's the main reason I drove this so little. Regardless of miles driven. I always put fresh oil and filter in before putting it away for winter. I always add fuel stabilizer as well. Oil changed in November 2023. Brad Penn oil has always been used.

  • Funracer (registered bidder) 1 monthago

When was the last valve adjustment done?
    Thanks

  • RoboAC 1 month, 1 weekago

Hi, How many miles have you driven it in the last year ?
After how many miles do you need to add oil ?

  • trmatur (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

The DME was placed under the driver's seat. All of the work was done by an expert Porsche mechanic, Dan Deegan. I don't have details perr your other questions. I can tell you that there has never been any motor or engine run issues since the 3.2 has been installed. The motor was sourced years ago from Los Angeles Dismantlers. I have all receipts on the motor installation as well as the top end rebuild.

  • JoeMartini (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

Hi, do you have any additional pictures or can you explain some of the 3.2 conversion work? Where did you end up placing the DME, DME Relay, and Altitude Module and harness routing? Also how did you reconfigure/extend the 14 pin connector?

  • trmatur (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

The targa top is very secure. Years ago a PCA Panorama comment mentioned adding a second rubber weather stripping to reduce wind noise. I added this and it has worked well. Wind noise below 55 mph is not significantly. The second weather stripping is very easily removed if you prefer the cleaner look at the windshield. Literally, just pull it off.

  • ROren 1 month, 1 weekago

The fit on the Targa top looks to be poor. Explain

  • trmatur (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

Yes. that valance was from the original motor. When I had the car repainted, I didn't want the two empty cut-outs that were there for the sport muffler.

  • opener (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

Was the extra rear valence from the original engine with a sport muffler?

  • Heavus (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

    Los Geht's!

I don't have a good way to provide a driving video, but, I will make an attempt with my phone and post it.

  • trmatur (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

Yes, the original deck lid comes with the car. The current tail is a Porsche tail, not a reproduction.

  • trmatur (seller) 1 month, 1 weekago

Regarding the ac condenser, about one year after I owned it I replaced the original fan blade with the upgraded with the 11 blade. At that time, dealer suggested I remove it for added power. Those ac units do not provide great ac and being a Targa, mostly it is driven without the top. All of those parts ate included.

  • npoole1 (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

    What happened to AC compressor

  • Fredly1 (registered bidder) 1 month, 1 weekago

Love to see a driving video.....love the color combo.

  • richardrobert 1 month, 1 weekago

Does the original decklid come with the car?
