Sought after for its performance, rarity, and mechanical pedigree, the Carrera 3.0 was produced between 1976 and 1977, combining a sporty, narrow-body chassis with a naturally aspirated version of the 3.0-liter aluminum-case Turbo engine. This 1977 example is one of only 1,123 Carrera 3.0 Targa versions produced in total. Finished in Sienna Metallic over a Cork leatherette interior, the car arrived in the U.S. during the 1980s and remained with its original importer until the seller’s purchase in 2022. It has since been refurbished with a new fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors, ignition coil, CDI box, spark plugs, brake lines, and more. Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this highly collectible 911 Carrera 3.0 Targa is now being offered for auction out of New York.

The Carrera 3.0 features wider rear fenders than a standard 911 and came with the distinctive option of a front air dam and a rubber “whale tail” rear spoiler from the 930 Turbo. This example is finished in Sienna Metallic (436) with a black Targa bar and removable roof panel. Equipment includes a driver’s side mirror, a fender-mounted antenna, headlamp washers, rear stone guard decals, a heated rear window, and 15” cookie-cutter wheels dressed in new Vredestein tires. The seller indicates the car was refinished in its original color some time ago, and the paint shows signs of age. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is appointed with Cork leatherette upholstery, matching carpets, and contrasting burgundy Carrera-script floor mats. Accessories include front bucket seats, folding rear seatbacks, a black leather three-spoke steering wheel, power windows, a heater, analog VDO gauges, and a Blaupunkt radio. The interior is described as being in good original condition with all gauges and accessories working properly.

Rated at 197 HP and 188 lb-ft of torque, the air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine features Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through an optional 5-speed manual transaxle. The Carrera 3.0 came with larger front brakes than a contemporary 911, along with stiffer torsion bars, anti-roll bars, and specific Bilstein dampers. This car had been in storage for several years before the seller’s purchase, and service performed since then included cleaning the fuel system, replacing the fuel pump, fuel filter, injectors, spark plugs, wires, ignition coil, CDI box, upgraded stainless-steel brake lines, new front brake calipers, and rebuilding the rear calipers.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This is a very rare Carrera 3.0 and is in highly original condition. It is in good running condition and great to enjoy as-is, or would be a good restoration candidate."
