Introduced in the 1970s as a two-door sibling to the Wagoneer, the Jeep Cherokee SJ offers off-road capability with rugged styling and practical utility. This 1977 wide-track example has benefited from restoration and modification, including a replacement 401ci V8 engine, a rebuilt 3-speed automatic transmission, a 3-inch lift with Rough Country shocks, and upgraded interior finishes. Refinished in Dark Cocoa Brown over a tan vinyl interior, it is equipped with power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, 18″ steel wheels, a roof rack, a Kenwood Bluetooth stereo, and more. This well-maintained SJ Cherokee is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Connecticut.
This example was refinished in Dark Cocoa Brown with white accents in 2013 under prior ownership. Exterior details include a chrome grille and bumpers, wide fender flares, a roof rack, a receiver hitch, and a driver-side mirror. The door frames were coated in bedliner, and the tailgate and fenders have beenreplaced. It rides on white-finished 18″ steel disc wheels withchrome hubcaps and wrapped in BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires with approximately 800 miles of use. The power-operated tailgate window was repaired in 2018. Rust is noted behind the rear wheel wells, while previous rust around the window glass was addressed during the earlier refurbishment. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features refurbished seating upholstered in tan vinyl with striped inserts on the front bucket seats and rear bench. Equipment includes replacement carpets and headliner, a cabin heater, and central cupholders repurposed from an ammunition can. A Kenwood Bluetooth stereo head unit has been fitted, while the wood-rimmed aftermarket steering wheel is paired with a 100-mph speedometer and auxiliary readouts for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and amperage. The odometer is said to have rolled over once.
Power comes from a remanufactured replacement 401ci AMC V8 engine that was installed in 2004 and equipped with Doug Thorley headers, a ceramic-coated Y-pipe added in 2012, an aluminum coolant overflow tank, and a 600-CFM Edelbrock carburetor mounted on a Performer intake manifold installed in 2019. The flywheel and starter were replaced in 2018. All four wheels are driven through a 3-speed automatic transmission, a Quadra-Trac transfer case, and limited-slip differentials at both the front and rear, all of which were rebuilt during the 2004 overhaul. Additional equipment includes a 21-gallon fuel tank, power steering, Warn locking front hubs, a Rancho steering stabilizer, a 3-inch lift kit with Rough Country shocks, and four-wheel disc brakes.
This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a sales brochure, spare hub covers, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “The ultimate beach or camping vehicle... have fun and steal the show! A VIN check shows this Cherokee is likely a S or Chief variant. It was restored and the current owner has lifted it 3in and put the custom Detroit Steel wheels with 33' BFG tires on it. Its mechanically sound and needs nothing.”

Welcome to the 77' Jeep Cherokee auction on PCarMarket. The car is in Glastonbury CT and I am representing the owner. One thing to note, while odometer displays 57k, it has rolled, so add a 1.. otherwise everything is pretty straight forward on this Jeep. Its a 10 year or so old restoration with a 401ci V8 swapped into it. Everything works mechanically. The rear glass sticks a bit but functions. The stereo works and has Bluetooth. There are a few rust spots here and there and a patch under the drivers side rear quarter that should be dealt with at some point. The suspension is very recent.. I think there is some packaging tape still on the leaf springs. The wheels are a custom setup from Detroit Steel with custom made 1" hub-centric spacers. It sounds great.. it looks great.. somebody take it home. Let me know if you have any questions.
