Representing the original BMW 6-Series, the E24 was produced between 1976 and 1989 as the brand’s flagship luxury grand touring car. This 1977 BMW 630CSi is an early U.S. market example refinished in Ruby Red Metallic over Beige leather upholstery. The car is reportedly one of only 928 examples produced with a 4-speed manual gearbox, making it the rarest E24 variant to have been sold in the U.S. It features a fuel-injected 3.0-liter M30B30 inline-six engine, early Karmann bodywork, 14” turbine-style wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a wood-rimmed MOMO steering wheel power windows, air conditioning, and a Becker Europa radio. This E24 originated in the Southwest and underwent a comprehensive cosmetic restoration and mechanical refresh that was completed in 2016, with less than 150 miles driven since. Having joined the current owner’s rotating collection earlier in 2025, this rare 4-speed 630CSi is now being offered for auction out of New York with approximately 69k miles showing on the odometer.

Designed by Paul Bracq, the E24’s sleek two-door bodywork was originally manufactured by Karmann in Osnabrück before production moved to the BMW Group Plant in August 1977. This early E24 was refinished in Ruby Red Metallic from its original Sienna Beige color under prior ownership. The seller notes that the paintwork was carried out to a very high standard, including the removal of the glass and engine. During the restoration, the exterior was refreshed with NOS trim pieces, taillights, bumper components, hood insulation, lights, grilles, emblems, hardware, center caps, and reproduction stickers. Equipment includes quad headlamps, a fender-mounted antenna, bright trim and bumpers, dual chrome mirrors, and polished dual center-mounted tailpipes. The factory 14” turbine-style wheels are dressed in Firestone tires from 2004 with approximately 90% tread depth. The seller indicates the exterior is in exceptional condition with only a few minor cosmetic imperfections, as shown in the photo gallery.

Appointed with Beige leather upholstery, brown carpeting, and a contrasting black upper dashboard, the four-seater interior is described as being in excellent original condition. Accessories include adjustable front bucket seats, individual rear seats, three-point seatbelts, a wood-rimmed MOMO steering wheel, power windows, air conditioning, an analog clock, an onboard diagnostic computer, and a Becker Europa AM/FM radio. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional, and the seller notes some warping on the dashboard.

Featuring Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection, the 3.0-liter M30B30 inline-six engine was factory-rated at 176 HP and 185 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission, and stopping power is handled by power-assisted ventilated disc brakes at each corner. A major engine-out mechanical overhaul was completed in 2016 within the last 150 miles, including the items below:

  • Timing chain and tensioner
  • Crankshaft seal and rear main seal
  • Oil pan, valve cover, and timing chain cover gaskets
  • Clutch kit
  • Water pump

This sale will include a 633CSi owner’s manual, partial service records, two lighted master keys, one spare key, the original data card, factory repair manual, a giclee print, original sales brochures, a complete tool kit, a spare tire, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “This is a remarkable example of an early Karmann body E24, which are among the rarest and most desirable BMW coupes. They offer a charm and a unique driving experience that the E9 and later E24 models do not have. Originally a lifelong southwestern car that is rust and accident free, which has undergone a complete cosmetic restoration to a very high standard. Executed with tremendous attention to detail, hundreds of hours of passionate labor, complete disassembly including engine removal, and many NOS parts that are NLA. It retains an original interior in excellent condition for age and mileage. An extensive mechanical refresh has been performed as well. This E24 has been driven less than 150 miles since completion in 2016. An opportunity to enjoy an extremely distinctive motoring experience for a fraction of what it would cost to replicate in 2025 and without the wait. This is a piece that any enthusiast would be proud to own, regardless of whether your first vintage motorcar or one of many.”
