First produced in 1960, the 40-Series Land Cruiser was created as a competitor to the American Jeep and British Land Rover, and is widely considered one of the most capable and durable off-road vehicles of all time. This 1976 example is finished in blue over a gray vinyl interior, and was acquired by the seller in 2017 in Idaho. It was said to have been repainted under previous ownership and has been fitted with a winch, a lift kit, and 17” Mickey Thompson wheels with Nitto Trail Grappler all-terrain tires. Showing approximately 61,215 miles on the odometer though the true mileage is unknown, this 1976 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser is now being offered at auction by the seller located in Idaho.
The exterior is finished in blue (854) with a white top and a white front grille, and was said to have been repainted at some point under previous ownership. Equipment includes a front steel bumper with a Ramsey winch, a rear steel bumper with a step, ambulance-style rear doors, a rear swing-out tire carrier with a full-sized spare, and Toyota Land Cruiser fender badges. Detailed images are provided in the gallery. This FJ40 rides on 17” Mickey Thompson Classic Baja Lock wheels with a paint-matching outer ring which are mounted with Nitto Trail Grappler all-terrain tires from 2011.
The interior features front bucket seats and inward-facing rear jump seats trimmed in gray vinyl. The spartan interior features a heater, roll-up manual windows, and an upgraded center storage console with an Alpine radio. The seller reports some paint fading at the tops of the doors.
The FJ40 is powered by a carbureted 4.2L 2F inline-six, which was factory rated at 135 HP and 200 lb.-ft of torque. All four wheels are driven by a 4-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case. Modifications consist of an aftermarket lift kit and steering stabilizer. The seller reports some minor oil weeping.
This sale will include a clean title and the controller for the winch.
