Offered exclusively in the United States for one year only and with less than 2,100 examples produced in total, the Porsche 912E was offered as Porsche’s entry-level sports car featuring a 2.0-liter flat-four engine with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection. This example was a lifelong California car when it was acquired by the current owner in February of 1992 and made four roundtrip cross-country journeys before moving with its owner to North Carolina in April 2000. In 2014, the engine was shipped to air-cooled specialist Jake Raby in Georgia for a complete rebuild to 2,056cc specs and has been driven less than 19,000 miles since. Driven approximately 155k miles by its owner of 31 years, this 912E is now being offered for auction out of North Carolina with just over 278k miles showing on the odometer.
This 912E is finished in Black with chrome window moldings and headlight rings, dual polished mirrors, a polished exhaust tip, and black 14” Fuchs wheels with brushed silver lips. The car rides on a set of 195/70 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires (4920) which have seen less than 1k miles of use. The exterior recently underwent paint correction and an application of graphene coating in preparation for the sale. Over the course of the seller’s 31-year ownership, cosmetic was sustained to the rear bumper, engine lid, left front fender, hood, right door, and left front bumper. The seller states all damages were professionally repaired to factory standard and supporting invoices are included with the sale.
The black vinyl interior has been fitted with a pair of leather Recaro bucket seats and features an aftermarket under-dash vent system, a black leather steering wheel cover, a front fog light switch, and a modern Blaupunkt Bluetooth stereo paired with an SSL Evolution Amplifier and upgraded speakers. Digital auxiliary gauges have also been added including an Innovative air/fuel meter and gauges for the oil and cylinder head temperature. Other equipment includes a factory electric sunroof, manual window cranks, three-point seatbelts, a heater, and analog VDO gauges. The seller reports all gauges and accessories are fully functional apart from the air conditioning and the factory oil temperature gauge which was disconnected in favor of the aftermarket digital gauge.
Power comes from a fuel-injected flat-four engine which was rebuilt to 2,056cc specs by Jake Raby in 2014 with less than 19,000 miles driven since. The engine features an upgraded Mallory Unilite electronic ignition and a Bursch tuned exhaust system. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine was removed and reinstalled by Tony Callas of Callas Rennsport in Torrance, California, and all supporting invoices are included in two binders full of maintenance records. The seller notes all stock California emissions equipment has been removed and the ignition and door locks are keyed separately as the ignition switch was replaced several years ago.
This sale will include an extensive collection of records and documentation along with the original owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, an air pump, a car cover, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “I've spared no expense in maintaining this 912E over the past 31 1/2 years of ownership. The best investment I made was having Jake Raby of Raby's Aircooled Technologies rebuild the engine to his 2056cc specs in 2014. Bench testing showed an impressive gain in both horsepower and torque. At that time the build cost $14,000. +. Today due to inflation and the scarcity of core engines and fuel injection parts it costs $24,000 +, per his website.”

oldsouth - Two very tiny pecks that I can see - no cracks, surface chips, bullseye or star damage.
Bid in the amount of $22,500
Does the windshield have any cracks or pecks?
Bid in the amount of $22,000
TBKTX - The only fluids are oil and window wash. After driving there is usually a very small amount of oil on the bottom of the engine case fins - pretty normal for an air cooled VW Type IV - none from valve covers or elsewhere. I use an oil pad to absorb any drips and occasionally just wipe the engine bottom with a shop towel. Washer fluid tank doesn't leak.

Does this 912E leak any fluids? If yes, how bad?

Good morning, Ken. Nice hearing from you! I agree.
20 K is way too cheap for this car. Saw this car at the Texas Hill country rallye
IMPORTANT CORRECTION: I just caught this error in the description: I moved to North Carolina in APRIL 2020! Not April 2000. Except for the four year period 06/1996 to 08/2000, while on active USMC duty in Garden City, Long Island, NY, the car was always in Southern California. While in NY the car was always under covered protection, and driving it was avoided during inclement or snowy weather.
Bgexpress - The compressor mounting platform and A/C drive pulley (as well as the smog pump pulley) are still installed.
Bgexpress - The only component left is the blower motor located in the "smugglers" box located in the frunk. None of the 912E's had factory A/C as original equipment. It was a U.S. dealer installed option and my 912E had a York compressor, which put too much of a load on the factory Type IV 86bhp engine (especially in hot Southern California summers) causing it to lug and and run hot. Moreover, the then 16 year old system needed costly repair or replacement, so, except for the 3-speed blower, I removed and trashed it all (compressor, evaporator, condenser, drier, plumbing, etc.). With the improved Raby engine I'd suggest a whole new system if you desired A/C. A system you might want to consider is the:

Are the air conditioning components completely removed from the car? What would it require to get them working again?

My apologies for the poor quality of the driving videos. I didn't realize my smartphone battery was slowly dying, which it finally did yesterday. The video couldn't last 2 minutes until it would shut down with a "phone too hot" message. I don't have access to another phone and I won't receive the new one until Tuesday.
Bid in the amount of $20,250
Thanks for all the info, Gunny! Looking forward to a great auction
I've driven the car LESS than 1000 miles in NC and the current odometer as of 10/03, is 278,011 with slightly more to be added when making a driving video and the Raby engine was installed in 2014 @259,337 miles.
To all viewers: The correct mileage I've driven the car since arriving in NC is 1000 miles not 19,000 miles! The Raby engine has been driven less than 19,000 miles since it was installed in 2014! I've requested a correction of the description.
Mike.j - The video of the sunroof operating has been posted.
Mike j - Sunroof does operate and I had a new felt liner installed in 2021.
I'll be sure to include operation with the driving/braking video
Mike.j - Cold start, warm start, walk around and driving video is forthcoming - I'm awaiting a dash camera mount from Amazon which should arrive soon.
Mike.j - Yes, 4 minor accidents: '92 rear end damage to bumper and engine lid while at stoplight, both replaced; '97 left fender and hood damaged when I hit a doe on Hwy 50 in Nevada enroute to NY (not so lonely on that stretch); '99 right door damage in minor accident, door was replaced; and in 2018, in L.A. a minivan pulled out in front of me from a side street and despite hard braking the front left bumper, headlight and fender sub structure was damaged. This was repaired by Kent Simmons, a top notch metal artist. During his repair, necessitating removal of the windshield, he found extensive rust in the bottom windshield channel and in the front hood channel (under the rubber smile). He fabricated and installed new channels, so no doubt this was a fortuitous accident!
Hello, and thanks to all who are bidding, or just viewing my auction. Being a realist (and pragmatic) I've decided that the time has come to sell the 912E since I attained 81 healthy years this past July, and don't want my "not car savvy" wife left dealing with a sale whenever my number is up.
In addition to the documents and items already described in the offering I've managed to accumulate many more items for the car. I had considered offering this collection in a separate auction as a single lot. However, I've decided instead to include all of it with this sale. This collection includes:
•The complete Jake Raby material, photos and instructions for the maintenance of the 2056cc engine
•A spare air box with air flow meter
•A spare auxillary cold air regulator
•K&N and Mann air filters
•2 functioning spare ECU's
•All of the necessary California smog plumbing and air pump with new Continental drive belts for the air pump and the alternator
•The original sugar scoop headlight trim
•Original U.S. spec taillight lenses
•A new unused set of fog lights
•Spare lamps and bulbs
•A refurbished Bursch muffler with 2 new mounting gaskets
• A Crane coil
•New spark plugs
•Front end bra
•A 912E Porsche Workshop manual and Haynes manuals for the 911 and 914
•The Bosch manual for the L-Jetronic system
•The Car & Driver issue with the 912E review, and other 912E printed material
•Plus many other items too numerous to list here
Semper Fi and happy bidding y'all! Gunny T.
P.S. Mike.j see my next post answering your question regarding accident history
Beautiful 912E, Love the modifications
Would like to see a driving/shifting/breaking video as well as a sunroof operation video
Has the car been in any accidents?
