Offered exclusively in the United States for one year only and with less than 2,100 examples produced in total, the Porsche 912E was created to replace the outgoing 914 as Porsche’s entry-level sports car. It shared its chassis with the premium 911 model and was powered by a 2.0-liter flat-four engine with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection. This example comes finished in Grand Prix White and features a rare sunroof option as well as Fuchs alloy wheels and a 5-speed manual transaxle. The car is said to have been originally sold in California and was under the long-term ownership of a fastidious Porsche collector. Having been refurbished and well-maintained including an overhaul of the original engine, this 912E is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Washington while showing approximately 128k miles on the odometer.

This 912E is finished in Grand Prix White with polished mirrors, door handles, headlight rings, and window moldings. Other equipment includes a fender-mounted antenna, a center tail panel reflector with “PORSCHE” lettering, an optional electric sunroof, and upgraded 16” Fuchs forged alloy wheels. The original 14” Fuchs wheels are also said to accompany the sale. The seller indicates the car received a high-quality glass-out respray in its original color some time ago and the finish remains in excellent overall condition. A few minor cosmetic imperfections are noted and the seller adds that the glass and trim remain in excellent condition.

The black leatherette interior features professionally reupholstered seats, an aftermarket stereo, an upgraded three-spoke sports steering wheel, and an aftermarket black leather gear knob. The original steering wheel and gear knob are said to accompany the sale. The seller notes the original dashboard is free of cracks, the door pockets are in excellent condition, and the original sun visors and carpeting remain in place. All gauges and accessories are said to be working properly

An air-cooled and fuel-injected 2.0-liter flat-four engine delivers up to 86 HP and 98 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transaxle. The seller states that the engine and gearbox are original to the car and the engine was completely overhauled at 122k miles. Other recent service includes new shock absorbers, a new ignition coil and condenser, and a fuel filter. The seller adds that the suspension has been lowered to European-spec ride height and extensive service records are included.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, service records, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “Porsche's 912E is one of the rarest models ever produced by Porsche and is coveted by collectors. The car was a one-year car for US production only. Depending on who one talks to, total production numbers were somewhere below 2,100 units and less than 1,000 with the sunroof option. This car was under the long-time ownership of a fastidious Porsche collector. It recently traded hands with a good friend of his and a retired engineer who has recently gone through the car again… engineers, gotta love the way they take care of things! This 912E starts, runs, shifts, and stops perfectly. There are no leaks. Fly in, drive home, anywhere.... thanks for looking. Feel free to ask any questions...”
