In 1974, the new Porsche 911 G-Series was introduced featuring a shortened hood, boxy impact bumpers, and a fuel-injected engine. This 1976 Porsche 911S Coupe was acquired as a rolling chassis and has been professionally built with an upgraded 3.2-liter flat-six engine sourced from a 1980s Carrera and paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle. Finished in Cockney Brown over Cork upholstery, this example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
This 911S is finished in Cockney Brown and equipped with front fog lights, chrome headlight rings, and aluminum trim around the windows. Additional features include pop-out rear quarter windows, dual rearview mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets. It rides on custom multi-piece 16” Fuchs-style wheels by Harvey Weidman, wrapped in like-new BFGoodrich tires. The seller describes the paint condition as "driver grade", additional images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features Cork leather Sport Seats, a tan dashboard, upper door panel covers, and matching carpets. Modifications include a Momo Prototipo steering wheel and cloth RS-style door pull straps. Additional equipment includes manual window cranks, a heater, a quartz clock, a locking glovebox, folding rear seat backs, and an upgraded head unit.
This 911S has been equipped with a larger 3.2-liter flat-six engine sourced from a 1980s Carrera model, paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle driving the rear wheels. The engine is said to have been previously built about 20k miles ago by specialist John Walker in Seattle, and a rebuild was later performed due to a broken head stud. This included all new head studs and piston rings. Additionally, the transmission was also built by John Walker while the suspension and corner balance were serviced by Jeff Gamroth of Rothsport Racing in Oregon. No outstanding maintenance items have been reported.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “If you’re in the market for a killer 3.2L narrow-body Porsche, look no further!”

Yellow receipt
Thanks for the engine pic! Do you have a receipt for the work that was done on June 14th? If i missed it in the gallery, my apologies..
I just posted a photo from June 14th I took of the engine on the stand and it had just finished being rebuilt #fresh

@Druckpress I'm glad I could help. I just always try to share my knowledge and 'personal opinion' on things. For whatever that's worth.
I appreciate your mind words and if you end up with the car. You will love it. Its a blast to drive.
Thank you @bigvitty4u. That all makes sense. I appreciate all the detailed and quick responses on this auction.
@Druckpress the front structure is good. As far as replacing the front torsion pan if you wanted to go that route they seem to cost somewhere between $2000-3500 retail to replace.
Now please note on invoice in photo #93 that RothSport did work on the front pan in 2018 which now makes sense why the metal had been exposed causing the corrosion issue in the spot.
It's ultimately whatever anyone chooses to do. But it's been inspected and is good structurally.
Thank you for your interest ☺️
Does anyone here have knowledge or experience with metalwork to be able to estimate what it would cost to replace that front pan? The more I look at it the more I think it would need to be done sooner rather than later.
Bid in the amount of $33,911
@jakeg104 thank you!
If you look in the gallery I posted a picture of the driver's side which I feel represents it well.
The color is the same. Just a slight difference in how it reflects. In certain lights.
I hope that helps
@bigvitty4u Gorgeous car!
I know this was discussed earlier, is the front left fender the one that’s discolored and not the driver door?
Not to go from talking about Porsches to talking about California but here’s a perfect example of what is wrong with California DMV/emissions
An incredible custom, Porsche engine, build, very Porsche specific and built to enjoy the features of the car and the engine, and it won’t pass California smog emissions even though it’s a 1976 car with a 1980 motor
Come on California get it together man
Now back to this Porsche, I bet it’s a blast to drive and looks great too
Good luck all

@Wmcnair absolutely glad I could help
@bigvitty4u thank you for you’r prompt reply!
@Wmcnair there is zero emissions equipment and even if it had it it has big cams ect
@Chipper you're welcome to bid if you have options to register it outside of California as I am not liable for smog in California as stated.
@bigvitty4u thank you! Sorry I didn’t see! I am assuming it doesn’t have smog equipment?
Ok thanks. Is it ok for us California residents to bid on this or do we need to be physically in another state?
@Chipper washington state
What state is the current title from?
@Wmcnair please see my below narrative in the comments. This car is not California smog compliant
By any chance do you have it CA smogged?
@probinson1627 I just uploaded a photo to the gallery. I would say this is a good representation of the driver's side paint on the car. Hope this is helpful 🙂

@probinson1627 it's the same color. In certain lights / angles it may appear to have a little different shine to it.
Is the left front fender a slightly lighter color, or just the photography?

Hello everyone
Just some updates for you.
The complete file for the build has been uploaded to the gallery.
In total just over $39,500 was spent over time doing the built. This by the previous owner.
That's also not to mention many things that there isn't paperwork for.
On top of that I've spent over $11,000 on the car. And that's in the last couple of months.
In that paperwork is a nice typed up narrative of the build so you can see a quick synapses of it without delving into the pages.
Hope this helps answer many questions.
@noramapp thank you for your interest in the car!
This is a highly modified 911 hot rod.
There is no simple 'fix' to make it California emissions legal. I'll write a small list
None catalytic exhaust system. More like a racing exhaust
Large Webb cams set at high duration
Very custom Steve Wong chip and custom Ecu set up
There is no emissions components on the engine itself.
On top of all this the car would then have to go to an official California Referee for the engine swap and then hope he approves it.
The amount of work to make it California smog legal totally defeats the purpose of the build.
I hope this helps
Also build documents will be posted today.
Bid in the amount of $8,000
Is there a known fix that would allow it to pass ca smog?
@Andersenrandy just uploaded your smugglers box photo.
Happy 4th

New ignition switch done this week and
Compression test (which was perfect)
Invoice below in the gallery. More paperwork on the way to the gallery shortly
@coastalview this car is not California smog compliant.
Any attempt to smog it locally in Monterey County?
@sportscarguy3 you're always welcome here to see it.
@Andersenrandy ok so as for photo #68 to clear the air
I had a professional inspect it today.
He said the cars structure is very good. His inspection found what he feel was that area of the front torsion pan wasn't properly sealed. He see the white sealant that porsche used. There is that spot you see that cosmetically isn't pretty. There is also a small area near the front point where the undercoat is peeling. It's not close enough to the actual structure point to be of concern.
Ultimately you can drive and enjoy it as it is. Or do a front suspension pan. He feels the rust occurred a long long time ago.
I also would be able to help with a front pan if we wanted to discuss that matter.
Thank you for your questions
@Andersenrandy got back seats and dash today which I uploaded for you. I forgot you asked for smugglers box. Will get those. It's clean
@sportscarguy3 sorry just seeing this I was away Tuesday most of the day
The underside was not dry ice blasted and is clean
I have extensive paperwork on the build that I should be uploading tomorrow (4th)
As for the radio. I've never turned it on. My radio is a built 3.2 liter with SSI's
Also I just did the Union 76 sticker for fun. As it's a 1976. When you buy it you can put a proper PCA sticker on those windows ;)
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
@wrbgolf69 oh thats wild. I have the window sticker. I'll look and see where it was sold.
I will also post a picture of the window sticker and further documentation
Photo of fuse box cover uploaded
And 2 current invoice for engine rebuild and other repairs.
Additional content has been added to the gallery for this listing.
@Chipper this is being looked at today for clarification
@mn911moby the fuse cover has been installed. Photo coming
Regarding the fuse box cover, uhh, just buy a used one from the forums and call it a day. Here's a whole assembly with cover for $150.
@Chipper - yikes!
I think I may be the original owner of this vehicle.
I purchased this color combination in 1976 from a dealer in Montgomery Alabama and after 2 and 1/2 years sold the car to a doctor who was moving from Georgia to Northern California.
Pic #68 looks quite bad. Battery acid has leaked down and rusted out the front suspension mount.
@Andersenrandy ok. I'm happy to get those photos for you in the next couple of days. Thank you for your interest
Update:
I will be uploading service paperwork and more history on the car in the next couple of days.
Also videos
Been dealing with some technical issues
Love to see inside the smuggler box and also a picture with the back seats flipped up . Thank you
@Andersenrandy yes john did the motor and transmission in Seattle. My mechanic here in Monterey just finished the fresh rebuild!
I will be posting pictures of the paperwork and documentation in the next day or so.
As far as rust the car is quite dry except for that small area you noted. It's not structural and you can see Jeff Gamroth installed all new suspension around it.
@sportscarguy3 no carpeting. That being said I may have a front trunk carpet but no guarantee.
I will have to let you know on the fuse box cover.
And I totally agree that cork is a great interior color!
Engine rebuilt about 20,000 miles by John Walker in Seattle and a rebuild was later performed due to a broken head stud. Did John Walker also do the second build to replace the head studs. Any more details on engine would be appreciated. Also - how much rust in on this car? Picture #68 shows some possible pretty deep rust or is it mostly surface rust.
Keep remembering a few things to ask additionally
Front compartment, is there carpeting?
Fuse box is exposed, do you have the fuse box cover and does it stay on?
Good looking interior, my 1983SC Targa had the cork interior, a classic look and patina, much different and much nicer than the more modern tan interiors in today’s Porsches
imho
@bigvitty4u OK appreciate your comments about the dash I just like to see it dark/black to make the color scheme look better in my opinion
However, given your comments, happy to just leave it
I’m here in Santa Rosa and drive down to Laguna Seca for the races frequently
Not sure where the bidding is going to go for this probably past my range of budget, but will
Keep an eye on it, and perhaps I could come down and take a look
PS apologies, should have looked at the pictures before making any comments to consolidate my comments
I believe I see a radio in the dash face but see no speakers
Is the radio functional and are there speakers and music in the car?
Also, what kind of maintenance history do you have ?
Additionally, the underside is super clean did you dry ice?
Finally, and all due respect, have a worked at a 76 gas station when I was a youngster,
Let’s swap out that 76 sticker for a PCA sticker and or delete it all together 🤙🏻😎
@sportscarguy3 good morning. Thank you for the kind words.
The dash is fairly straightforward to change. The tan dash is very rare and in near perfect condition which would make it desirable for other collectors
@Bucketheadned yes it's a 915 gearbox built by John Walker
That’s a handsome little Porsche, sure would like to get my hands on this one, and not far away down in Monterey
Also, seller, or all you Porsche knowledgeable, how difficult to either swap out this dash for a black dash or make it black?
The only thing I’d like to change about this Porsche
915 trans?
