Produced exclusively for the German market in the 1976 model year, the Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 Sondermodell was the last 911 to feature the mechanically fuel-injected Type 911/83 engine derived from the legendary Carrera RS. The Sondermodell was produced in a limited series of 113 examples designated by option code M504 and special 9000 series chassis numbers, typically reserved for race cars. These cars were reportedly built to use leftover RS-spec engine parts and featured a limited-slip differential, Bilstein shock absorbers, an 18mm roll bar, a 380mm Sport steering wheel, and a specially geared 5-speed Type 915/43 manual transmission as standard equipment. This example was produced during the final two months of the 1976 model year and was sold new in Munich where it remained until being imported to Louisiana in 1986. It was acquired by the previous owner and relocated to Florida in 1993. Since then, the car has been stored and maintained at the workshop of David Glenn, a legend in the Porsche community with previous technical experience at Brumos, Kelly Moss, RUF, and Porshe Motorsport NA. Benefitting from a full professional repaint, an interior restoration, and a meticulous engine rebuild performed under the care of its owner of over 30 years, this rare Carrera 2.7 Sondermodell is now being offered for auction out of Florida. 

The Carrera 2.7 can be distinguished from a standard 911 of the era by its flared fenders, front air dam, and Whale Tail rear spoiler. The Sondermodell comes without a rear “Carrera” badge and is equipped with 15” Fuchs wheels as standard. This example was professionally refinished in its original color of Copper Brown Metallic in 1993 and has been kept in a climate-controlled facility ever since. The seller adds that the Fuchs wheels were restored and fitted with new Pirelli P8000 tires in 2019. Detailed images are provided in the gallery. 

Featuring black leather and tartan cloth upholstery, the interior was fully restored using Lakewell-sourced materials in 2019. The Sondermodell came standard with a 380mm Sport steering wheel, aluminum door sill trim, manual roll-up windows, lightweight needle-felt velour carpeting, and an oil pressure and level gauge. 

This 911 is equipped with an RS-spec 2.7-liter Type 911/83 flat-six engine featuring Bosch mechanical fuel injection. Up to 210 HP is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed Type 915/43 manual gearbox with a special 26:25 fourth gear ratio and a limited-slip differential. The Sondermodell is equipped with Bilstein shocks, an 18mm rear anti-roll bar, a 1.5 HP starter motor, and front A-type cast iron brake calipers as standard. The car’s engine and transmission were rebuilt by David Glenn in 2004 at 115,517 km (72k miles). Since 2019, the car was also serviced with a brake system overhaul, new OEM shocks, new front sway bar and A-arm bushings, valve clearance adjustments, fresh fluids, and leak-down and compression tests. The seller notes the car covered just 2,724 km (1,692 miles) since the engine rebuild was completed and was periodically started and driven to preserve its mechanical health. 

This sale will include an owner’s manual, a toolkit, a spare tire, restoration photos, letters of authenticity from Porsche, and a clean title.
