This 1975 Volkswagen Type 2 23-window Microbus was the subject of a rotisserie restoration at a claimed cost of over $100k and was built to replicate the 1962 Alpine Ski Hauler version that carried skiers up to the top of the Alpines. Said to have been completed in 2018, this Type 2 Microbus features a refinished Ruby Red/Cream exterior, a rare dual-length canvas sunroof, diamond-stitched black and yellow leather interior with seating for 9, a freshly rebuilt and upgraded 1600cc dual-port twin-carbureted aluminum 4-cylinder engine mated to a rebuilt heavy-duty close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission, custom-made removable curtains, dual roof-mounted teak ski racks, pop-out front windows, new chrome and stainless steel trim, and color-matched steel wheels with Porsche 356-style chrome hubcaps. This restored 23-window Volkswagen Bus is now being offered at auction by the seller based out of Maryland.

The exterior was stripped down to bare metal and received a rotisserie refinishing in two-tone Ruby Red with a Cream top, with new chrome and stainless steel trim. Equipment includes 23 windows with Alpine top windows, a split windshield with pop-out front glass, polished door mirrors, paint-matched front and rear bumpers with overriders, rear engine cooling vents, passenger-side barn door-style doors for entry, and two roof-mounted teak wood ski racks. The seller reports this Type 2 has been garage kept since the completion of the restoration, and detailed images are provided in the gallery. The 15” steel wheels are fitted with Porsche 356-style chrome hubcaps and are mounted with widened Turbo Pilot Green Tyre rubber.

The interior features bench seating for up to 9 passengers upholstered in black leather with yellow diamond stitching, complimented with matching door panels and gray carpeting. Features include a rare dual-length canvas sunroof with interior operation, a wood partition behind the front seats, custom-made removable curtains all around, a 2-spoke floor-mounted steering wheel, a floor-mounted shifter, VDO instrumentation, a white dashboard with a passenger grab handle, and manual roll-up windows.

The original engine has been replaced with a rebuilt and upgraded Brazilian 1600cc dual-port twin-carbureted aluminum 4-cylinder engine, equipped with twin Solex carburetors. A rebuilt heavy-duty close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission directs power to the rear wheels. Features include a fully independent four-wheel suspension and rack and pinion steering. The seller reports that a 120-point mechanical inspection has been completed in addition to a state inspection and an oil service.

This sale will include a clean title and some maintenance documentation.

@Yitzbud OK but what year is it? 1975 or 1962

  • Yitzbud (seller) 2 years, 2 monthsago

@minedoes185 I had to remove it from my website as per the agreement with PCAR. I work for Flemings Ultimate Garage and am selling on behalf of our dealership

  • minedoes185 (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

Same VIN, what's the story? Says it just sold 9/18/2022 and it's a 1962. Same pics and description. https://www.flemingsultimategarage.com/vehicles/4153/1962-volkswagen-23-window-microbus

  • Yitzbud (seller) 2 years, 2 monthsago

@Foxtrot the bus is 6’4” and the front rack adds
10” at its highest point. They are easy to remove and we have transported the bus via enclosed trailer with them on and a little tire deflation and with them off and plenty of room. Thank you for you nice comment as well!

  • Foxtrot (registered bidder) 2 years, 2 monthsago

Forgive me if this has been posted/mentioned but what is the overall height (exactly) to the highest point of the rack(s)? Thank you!

    Beautiful bus!

Thank you for viewing this beautiful VW 23 window bus. I have the vehicle on my showroom floor and everyone who has seen it mentions "I remember when" and tells me a story about their adventure in the bus! We have fully serviced and safety checked the vehicle. As you can see from the driving video, it does go down the road nicely. This will be a great addition to your collection.
I can help make arrangements to ship the car anywhere in the world. I look forward to your questions and comments and good luck!
