Among the final iteration of Porsche’s mid-rear engine air-cooled sports car, this 1975 Porsche 914 2.0 has been upgraded with a 2.4-liter displacement. Benefitting from a meticulous frame-off restoration in 2014 that included a fresh white finish over tan leatherette and suede upholstery, the car also features a rear decklid spoiler, 5-lug Porsche 911 Fuchs wheels, and upgraded brakes. This 914 is now being offered for auction once again by its seller out of California.
Refinished in white as part of a frame-off restoration in 2014, this example rides on upgraded 5-lug Porsche 911 Fuchs wheels dressed in Falken tires from 2011 and 2015. Equipment includes a white-painted removable hard top, pop-up headlights, black rubber bumpers, integrated front fog lights, dual mirrors, and a period-correct rear decklid spoiler with embedded Porsche lettering. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is appointed with tan leatherette and suede upholstery, complemented by a black carpet dashboard cover and grey carpeted floors. Equipment includes front bucket seats, a center armrest, roll-up windows, a speaker system, and an upgraded head unit. All gauges and accessories are reported to be in proper working order, although the parking brake is inoperable.
Power is provided by an originally 2.0-liter flat-four engine, bored out to a larger displacement of 2.4 liters. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed dog-leg manual transmission. Enlarged brakes have also been fitted, eliminating the need for a parking brake, and the battery has been moved to the trunk area. The seller notes that the gearbox can be a bit notchy at times and may pop out of first gear if not fully engaged, making it somewhat stubborn to shift out of first.
This sale will include a clean title.

How was a "frame off" accomplished when there is no frame? It is a stamped tub.
Bid in the amount of $10,165
@b.flippo correction, synchro was not replaced and the gearbox was not opened
@BoxsterGT no other than that hole there is no other rust
Bid in the amount of $9,914
Wait. The gearbox was or wasn't opened? Was the synchro replaced or not?
Bid in the amount of $9,250
Bid in the amount of $8,250
How about the rest of the chassis?
Is there rust anywhere else?
For a "Frame Off" Restoration, that should have been corrected.
@BoxsterGT yes
In Photo 66, is that a RUST HOLE where the Battery Box was located?
@MattH0216 Previous sale the guy was in canada and backed out
What happened with the previous sale a few months ago that you all are listing it again?
@tdskip The gearbox wasn’t opened we replaced the shifter couplings and bushings
@MattH0216 unfortunately not it was done many years ago with previous ownership
But get into the car and you see it was a phenomenal job
Bid in the amount of $8,000
if the first gear synchro was replaced it’s a bit perplexing as to why the shifting issues are still there. it also sounds like the issue is still there after the sink was replaced which means that something else is wrong or the bad synchro was replaced with another bad synchro…
Do you have information on who did the motor work to bore it out to a 2.4l?
Bid in the amount of $7,750
Bid in the amount of $7,500
Can you please post a pic of the paid for repair invoice?
Bid in the amount of $914
@b.flippo The Synchro was replaced that helped with the issue
I’m having déjà vu all over again…
Is overwhelmingly likely that a 914 that pops out of first gear needs a new first gear cluster. it will not magically fix itself, however, it can be replaced with the transmission in the car if if you have a lift. You will, of course, that source a good assembly, but it’s not hard to do.
I had a '75 with the same first gear synchro issue. The only repair was to do a synchro replacement. Was that done in this case? Bad synchros don't just go away.
How is first gear all of a sudden okay? What was done to fix it?
@dawgfan1214 First gear is fine now,
But it can be stubborn until it warms up.
@Bruce914 Bigger calipars were installed cause the car has more HP then stock and there was no room for parking brake
Wheels were also changed to 5 lug instead of stock 4 lug wheels
@sbell914 Its just the language, car was taken down to its unibody and painted
@bbfishey There are a few small cracks in the dash
Will add pics of uncovered dash as well
There will be a very lucky person taking this 914 home ready for long and unforgettable drives
Feel free to ask any questions or concerns. I will try my best to respond.
How does the dash look? Any cracks? I notice you have it covered.
Nice car. Why would the emergency brake be eliminated because of larger brakes?
Can you tell me more about the first gear issue?
How do you do a "FRAME OFF" restoration on a UNIBODY chassis???????
