Celebrated by enthusiasts as a standout year for Porsche's 914, the 1973 edition marked the debut of a 2.0L flat-four engine alongside the introduction of the 914/12's innovative "side-shift" 5-speed manual transmission. Initially sold at Bob Hagestad Porsche-Audi of Lakewood, Colorado, this 1973 Porsche 914 was ordered in Alaska Blue Metallic over black vinyl upholstery and is said to have undergone a complete refinish and engine rebuild. Upgraded with dual Weber carburetors, K&N air filters, and a front oil cooler, this 914 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

This example is said to have been refinished in its factory-specified shade of Alaska Blue Metallic (L96B). Details include pop-up headlights, fog lights, a black removable Targa top, polished dual side mirrors, and matching trim & bumpers. It rides on 15” Fuchs alloy wheels dressed in Vredestein tires from 2017. The seller adds that LED headlight bulbs have been fitted and reports some paint imperfections and signs of road wear. Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is appointed with black vinyl upholstery and presents two-way adjustable seats, a four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel, and VDO instrumentation. The seat cushions have been repaired with black tape and mismatched carpets have been installed. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be working properly.

Power comes from an air-cooled flat-four engine which is said to have been professionally rebuilt and upgraded with dual Weber carburetors, K&N air filters, and a front oil cooler. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 914/12 “side-shift” 5-speed manual transaxle. The seller adds that this is a numbers-matching example and extensive service documentation will accompany the sale.

This sale will include a clean tile and service documentation.

The seller would like you to know: “Honest rust-free California 914 2.0. Rare color. Exceptionally clean and well maintained.”

Car looks nice. A bit surprised with the car as nice as it is nobody thought to fix the seats? Kills the overall feel!

@mrboxsters The floor pan is original and in tact. Only the front was cut for the oil cooler air inlet. I’m trying to get some photos later today for you.

From Mike at Air Cooled Express a few minutes ago. Thanks to Mike.

    Hi Kevin!
I think that car used to belong to our friend Vern. Previous to him owning it the car was a track car and had some high performance items on it. One of those was an oil pressure accumulator. Is there still a tank in the front trunk too? The round thing could also be a crankcase breather... it's been a while so I'm not 100% sure.

The square box is a replacement relay box that we made to replace the factory relay box that is known to be a problem.

Glad to see the car is still around. I always did love the stance and the wheels!
    Mike

@mrboxsters I’ll post some photos. Also I’m doing some videos this week. Thanks for your interest.

  • mrboxsters (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

Was the floor of the front trunk cut out in any way for the oil cooler or only the front trunk wall. If floor was cut could you post some pics showing the extent. Thanks!

    @mrboxsters Thank you. I agree!

    Beautiful color. Always loved it.

@CarNutinMiami The engine rebuild and oil cooling system was completed by http://aircooledexpress.com/
I believe the car was possibly autocrossed at some point because of the performance mods. They are tasteful and well done as best as I can tell. Regarding the box specifically I think it has something to do with the auxiliary oil cooler but not certain.

What is the silver box on the drivers side of the engine compartment that says “air cooled express”?

  • jns7853 (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@9146max Thanks for the prompt reply.

  • 9146max (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@jns7853 Yes holes exist on rear bumper from removed bumper guards prior to my purchase. It’s a 74 bumper.

  • jns7853 (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

Why are there holes on the rear bumper? Is that bumper from a '74?

  • 9146max (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

    @52172 Thank you.

  • 9146max (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

@Mitchg27 Oil cooler, lines and tank. Previous owner installed. The assembly has an eclectic fan as well. It really is a nice addition to keep the 2.0 engine cool.

  • Mitchg27 (registered bidder) 1 year, 3 monthsago

What is the long silver tube on the frunk on passenger side with hoses coming out at the bottom.

  • 52172 1 year, 3 monthsago

    Beautiful car

  • 9146max (seller) 1 year, 3 monthsago

I owned a factory metal rear valance and installed this recently.

@jagtampa53 Thank you for your bid.

@drwoods Car was reportedly sold new in Colorado and moved to California where I bought it. I’m sorry I don’t know many more ownership details. According to some maintenance records it was also in Nebraska. It’s never been neglected, crashed and isn’t rusty. Good luck.

What is the silver box on the drivers side of the engine compartment that says “air cooled express”?

Also this color looks great on the targa bar.

  • CarNutinMiami 1 year, 3 monthsago

    Great color GLWTS

  • drwoods 1 year, 3 monthsago

This looks more like a Colorado car as opposed to a California car. Can you please comment on the ownership details?
