Introduced in North America in 1972, the R107 replaced the W113 generation Mercedes-Benz SL and features a robust 4.5-liter V8 that was later replaced with a smaller displacement engine after 1980. This 1975 example is finished in Dark Green over a tan interior and comes equipped with a color-matched hardtop, power accessories, and more. This 450SL is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Mississippi.
The North American market R107 came equipped with distinctive quad-sealed beam headlights, and from 1974 on gained larger front and rear safety impact bumpers. This 450SL is finished in Dark Green (268) with a matching removable hardtop complimented with chrome bumpers, mirrors, and trim. It rides on 14” steel wheels with body-colored hubcaps wrapped in Kumho Power Star tires showing from 2006. The seller notes some clear coat peeling on the hood. Detailed images are provided in the gallery along with paint meter readings.
Inside, the 450SL features tan upholstery with matching door panels, carpeting, and wood trim. Amenities include air conditioning, central locking, and power windows. The seller notes an aftermarket stereo is fitted as well as a pad covering the dash which shows some aging, and rust in the rear seat floor pan has been noted. All gauges are reported to be working properly with no warning lights noted, although the air blower works intermittently.
The R107 450SL is powered by a 4.5-liter M117 V8 engine that features Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection and produced up to 180 HP and 220 lb.-ft. of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 3-speed automatic transmission. Factory equipment includes power steering, a fully independent suspension, and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. The seller states an oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
This sale will include a clean title.
