Named in honor of Enzo Ferrari’s late son Alfredo “Dino” Ferrari, the Dino car marque was established by Ferrari in 1957 to offer more affordable, higher-volume cars with small displacement engines. The Dino GT4 was produced from 1973 until 1980 as Ferrari’s first mid-engine V8 sports car, featuring distinctive Bertone bodywork by Marcello Gandini and a 2+2 seating arrangement. This 1975 Dino GT4 is one of only 840 examples of the 208 model, a special low-displacement version of the GT4 produced for the Italian market to avoid a high tax on cars with engines larger than 2.0 liters. It is said to have spent time in the Maranello Rosso Collection before being acquired by the seller in 2023 and is now being offered for auction out of the U.K. with approximately 98k kilometers (61k miles) showing on the odometer.

The Dino GT4’s bodywork was designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone and features sharp, angular lines in contrast to the more curvaceous Ferrari models at the time. The 208 version can be identified by its chrome exterior accents and unique front valence without fog lights. This example was previously refinished in red and decorated with Ferrari badging on the hood, trunk lid, and tail panel. Equipment includes pop-up headlamps, a driver’s side mirror, a polished exhaust tip, a vented hood and engine cover, side air intakes, and silver 14” Cromodora wheels with Dino-branded center caps and Michelin XWX tires sized 205/70. The seller indicates the windshield was recently replaced and welding repairs were performed on the front left side of the chassis in 2023.

The cabin offers a 2+2 seating arrangement with black vinyl and red velour upholstery complemented by red carpets and a beige headliner. Accessories include a leather-wrapped MOMO three-spoke steering wheel, three-point seatbelts, rear lap belts, a gated shifter, power windows, Borletti air conditioning, and Dino-branded Veglia Borletti instrument dials. Aftermarket speakers have been installed in the door panels, although there is no radio equipped. The seller also notes signs of wear on the outer driver’s seat bolster.

The smallest production V8 in history at the time, the Dino 208 GT4 carries a version of the standard 2.9-liter Dino 308 GT4 engine which is de-bored for a 1,991 cc displacement and paired with quadruple Weber downdraft carburetors. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transaxle. The seller indicates the brakes were overhauled in 2020 along with the replacement of the steering rack, CV boots, fluids, battery, fuel pump, fuel hoses, fuel filter, belts, and rollers. A brake caliper was also rebuilt in September 2023.

This sale will include some service records, a toolkit, original sales literature, and an Italian registration.
