Introduced in 1970, the Volkswagen Super Beetle was offered in North America as a premium version of the standard Beetle featuring larger proportions, improved suspension, and a 1,600cc flat-four engine. This 1974 example is finished in blue over grey vinyl upholstery and features a 4-speed manual transmission, a sunroof, 15” steel wheels, and an updated vintage-style radio. Accompanied by the original owner’s manuals and over 45 years' worth of service records, this classic VW is now being offered for auction out of Texas.
Compared to the standard Beetle, the Super Beetle features a redesigned front fascia, rounder fenders, and a larger hood that accommodates increased trunk capacity. This example is finished in blue with chrome trim and bumpers, a driver’s side mirror, a retractable metal sunroof, a fender-mounted antenna, dual exhaust tailpipes, and 15” slotted steel wheels with chrome hubcaps. The car rides on steel-belted Kelly Metric Radial tires dated from 2003 and 2004. The seller notes the tires are in good condition and the car’s exterior is well-presented. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features grey vinyl upholstery on the seats and door panels with a contrasting black dashboard and charcoal carpeting. Accessories include black rubber floor mats, door panel storage pockets, cup holders, woodgrain center console trim, a black four-spoke steering wheel, three-point front seatbelts, a locking glovebox, and an updated vintage-style radio with an aftermarket speaker. The seller notes the fan for the heater is inoperable and the sunroof does not fully close.
An air-cooled and carbureted 1,600cc flat-four engine drives the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual gearbox. The Super Beetle features larger drum brakes than the standard Beetle and an improved front suspension with MacPherson struts and transverse control arms. The seller notes the original owner’s manual contains service stamps, and maintenance records are available dated from 1975 through 2022.
This sale will include an owner’s manual, service records, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This 1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle, finished in light blue with an off-grey interior, is the epitome of classic automotive design and reliable performance. Owning this iconic vehicle means embracing a piece of automotive history, offering a charming and timeless driving experience.”

@Peabo, Will do.
@BobRux, while you are taking videos, please take a cold start video so we can see how it fires up from dead cold. Thank you
When we are back in the store tomorrow I'll take a picture of the VIN tag and a video of the car be driven.
Bid in the amount of $1,250
Can you post a pic of the VIN sticker? Is there a drive video coming?
Bid in the amount of $1,000
Marina Blue it is then :-).
@BobRuxtonatGCA I think you are correct. Thanks! Car looks great.
This is only a guess, but looking at the color charts for a 1974 Beetle it looks to be Marina Blue.
Any sense for which Blue that is?
Thank you for your question about the sunroof and the paint. We replaced the stripped cog drive wheel and handle. The sunroof operates up to that last bit and stop, if we continued to apply force the cog gear would strip again. We decided to stop at that point because we are not a VW repair shop. There is no evidence of water damage. As for paint, I have no proof if it is original but if it is a re-paint they did a really nice job nobody has found tape marks or overspray. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
What, if anything, has been attempted to correct the sunroof? Is there any evidence of water damage in the interior? Any history about the car? Original paint?
