An homage to the 1974 Carrera RSR 3.0 race car driven to victory at SCCA Trans-Am and IMSA GT championships by Peter Gregg, this Porsche 911 was built as a custom Brumos-approved reproduction by Bob Hindson Racing.  It was completed in 1991 following 18 months of work at a cost of over $400k and wears the iconic #59 livery over a semi-tubular frame chassis. This 911 received a 3.0-liter twin-plug engine capable of producing up to 340 HP and was campaigned for a short time in historic races as corroborated by HSR and PCA logbooks. Having logged 0 hours since an engine rebuild by Kevin Wheeler Motorsports, this high-quality #59 Carrera RSR tribute is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Florida.

Beginning life as a standard 1971 Porsche 911 Coupe, this example received full Carrera RSR bodywork including lightweight fiberglass doors, vented fenders and quarter panels, bumpers, and an IROC whale tail spoiler. It comes finished in Grand Prix White with the traditional Brumos Racing livery Guards Red and Ford Blue. The rain gutters were removed from the roofline and brake cooling ducts were added along with new floor pans and rocker panels. A tube-frame structure was added from the front shock towers forward. It rides on a set of 10”x16” and 12”x16” wheels dressed in Hoosier racing tires.

The race-ready cockpit has been stripped, painted, and fitted with an integrated roll cage constructed from .090 and .065 D.O.M steel tubing. Features include a Sparco Evo Plus driver’s seat with Willans safety harness, a custom switch panel, a three-spoke steering wheel with Racepak G2X display, a racing shifter with a MOMO knob, and a fire suppression system with twin 5lb. extinguisher bottles.

The air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine features twin-plug ignition, twin Bosch MFI pumps, individual throttle bodies, an RSR fuel filter assembly, a 12-gallon ATL fuel cell, and free-flowing race exhaust. The engine is configured to run on two different tunes producing either 315 HP or 340 HP at the rear wheels. It was rebuilt in 2012 by Kevin Wheeler Motorsports including a new GT3 rod bearing set, Clewitt ignition wires, Aasco valve spring, CP piston rings, new OEM 95mm cylinders, and an updated 996 Turbo intermediate shaft as well as new gaskets, filters, and spark plugs. The car has logged 64.6 hours since completion and with 0 hours added since the time of the engine rebuild. The car weighs in at 1,946 lbs. and features a custom suspension with fabricated front A-arms and strut boxes, Smart Camber plates and rear camber boxes, reinforced 930 trailing arms, 935 spring plates, 934 valved Bilstein shocks, heim-joint toe adjusters, 930 axles and CV joints, and Weltmeister anti-roll bars. Stopping power is provided by a twin master cylinder system with adjustable bias and 930 brake calipers/rotors.

This sale will include some records, racing logbooks, and a clean title.

@afuria62 Both PCARMARKET and us, AutoQuest Motorsports, have a lot of credibility and are well respected and trusted in the Porsche market.

This listing is true and accurate and is certainly not overrepresented or misleading. We have had the photos of an original flyer that was made for the car, alluding to it being an exact museum quality reproduction, removed to stop any confusion.
The car has changed owners since the original build and had some minor modifications for eligibility in historic races.

This car is available for inspection both in person in Fort Myers, FL, or remotely via video.

Correction to listing - the fuel pumps are twin Holley 12-427 pumps

@afuria62 Geeze. it just gets better. Just read with exception of modern safety and fuel system. This is an "EXACT REPLICA" of the 1974 and 1975 car? WTF? PCAR should take this auction down and make them resubmit it with some truth. PCar looses credability, they should screen these better.

@RSRDriver @RSRDriver. Museum Quality Replica? Im never argumentative or leave negitive comments. but this is so far from the truth. CCW wheels, no centerlocks, Vilonti side mirror, ATL fuel level gauge, wrong seat, enough. When sellers, especially dealers, use terms like "Museum" they open themselves to critisms. Sorry. GLWTS but PCar readers and others just shake our heads when we see these over represented terms.

Wow! What a incredible classic toy this Porsche would be
Someone’s going to have a Brumos rocket ship in their garage / collection. !!
    Good luck all

@AutoquestMotorsports "Massive pedigree". No. Only the livery and body work is correct, the rest of the car does not replicate Peter's 1974 Porsche RSR.

@RSRDriver the build was done before our time with this car, however we do know that not only were the specifications provided by Brumos, but that it was fully approved by Brumos too. There may have been some minor changes to the car in the ownership since it was built, however it is still a stunning example and will make a superb historic race car.

  • RSRDriver 2 years, 3 monthsago

Nice car, but for $400k, it could have been a much more accurate replica of Peter's 1974 3.0 RSR.

  • AutoquestMotorsports (seller) 2 years, 3 monthsago

    Hi everyone

As I am sure you will realize this is an exceptionally special car, which has been built to an incredibly high specification. It will make an ideal collector's car or even better a historic racing car with a massive pedigree.

Good luck and happy bidding. Please ask any questions!
    Thanks!
