Now available for auction is this 1974 Porsche 914 2.0 finished in Light Ivory over a black leatherette interior.  This 1974 example was recently acquired by the seller from the family of its long-term previous owner.  Having spent several years in storage, it was subsequently treated to extensive reconditioning including rebuilt carburetors, all new fluids and filters, a transmission reseal, and a full overhaul of the brakes and fuel system.  Factory equipped with the optional Appearance and Performance Group packages, this classic 2-liter 914 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Washington while showing approximately 19k-miles on the 5-digit odometer.

This 914 is finished in Light Ivory (L80E) with contrasting Porsche side graphics in black.  The car is said to have been previously refinished in its original color and some minor imperfections are noted throughout the body, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery.  The rear window was recently removed and resealed as part of the car’s reconditioning, and the glass is noted to be all original.  The chrome bumpers and fog lamps are included as part of the optional Appearance Group, while the 15” pressure-cast alloy wheels are included as part of the Performance Group.  These wheels come dressed in 205/60 Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires with date codes from 2017.

Inside, the driver is greeted by a black leatherette interior with a unique Appearance Group center console including a clock, oil temperature, and voltage gauge.  A MOMO Competition steering wheel has been equipped along with new Coco floormats.  The seller confirms all gauges and electrical functions to be working properly.

This 914 carries an air-cooled 2.0L flat-four engine that sends approximately 100 HP to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual gearbox.  The optional Performance Group adds stabilizer bars for improved handling, and this example has been upgraded with a performance exhaust and dual Dellorto carburetors which were recently rebuilt.  The transmission was also recently resealed along with the replacement of all fluids and filters, a refresh of the fuel system, and a full overhaul of the brakes with new pads, rotors, lines, a master cylinder, and rebuilt calipers.

This sale will include a clean title.  As the market for the Porsche 914 reaches new heights, well-represented examples such as these are becoming increasingly sought after.  Do not let this opportunity pass you by.

@Beaker No worries my brother (see how I slipped that in, hint, hint), it was for a good cause. It makes one feel good to do something good for someone else who seems like a really cool guy like yourself, you deserved to get the car. I'm glad you didn't get the one on Saturday now. I think it was meant to be. Cheers!

@Beaker I'm crying here you know, anyone else and I would have gone a lot higher, sorry to the @amc2021 (seller), but you got what you wanted and you will never know how happy Beaker is to get this car for his brother. Thanks @amc2021 for bringing this car to share and pass along the great honor of being the next caretaker of this wonder piece of German Engineering. Peace, and be safe everyone!

@amc2021 Thanks - as @mcshack mentioned, I’ve been trying to snag one for my brother - this is his childhood dream car and I told him if he hit his weight reduction goals I would find him one. Promise kept. Thank you again for being so kind @MCShack…you didn’t have to do that, but much love

  • MCShack (registered bidder) 3 years, 10 monthsago

Well done and congratulations @Beaker very nice car and I did really want it then I realized it was you who got beat out at twice the amount on Saturday. This is a better car than that one, lot more miles, but still better car with 2.0 engine. Much, much better can than the one on BaT by the guy that got banned here. You are going to make your brother very happy. Any chance your parents adopt me? Cheers!

@Manpot There are only two small holes on either outer side that could easily be filled and you could simply paint the rear panel. Pretty easy to reverse if one wanted to. The original 914 and 2.0 badges were found in the car when we were detailing it. We also have the trunk lock and push button.

If I had room I'd be bidding on this..IMHO the deco reflector and the PORSCHE script on the engine lid are too much. I'd remove the deco strip and hope I could fill the drill holes. This looks like a much loved 914 with many of the right mods inscluding carbs. Good luck..someone is getting a very nice one.

@Quest @Quest, this is a US spec car. The FI was removed by some previous owner, we do not know when but this was common modification back in the late 70s-80s. Dellorto carbs are cool :) Many owners also changed out the front lamps for the euro ones, they look better in my opinion. If you google 1974 914, you will find many with the clear/amber lens. The other mod that was common was the rear deco panel and electric trunk release. To me this car seems like it was modified in the late 1980s or early 1990s based on the look; Momo steering wheel, deco panel, lowered ride height, and there was a 1990s Panasonic CD radio that did not work in the dash. We removed the radio and added the Porsche blank.

    @amc2021 Appreciate the candor.

  • Quest (registered bidder) 3 years, 10 monthsago

Was this originally a Euro spec model, the front corner lens appear to be Euro? The 74 models came standard with fuel injection, so I’m wondering why the carbs? Any info is helpful. Still thinking I want this.

  • amc2021 (seller) 3 years, 10 monthsago

@deusexmachina77 @deusexmachina77, we do not have any records as everything sadly was discarded before we purchased the car when the previous owner's garage was being cleaned out and painted to prep the home for sale. Based on the overall condition, wear to drivers upper door panel and the fact that the car has been repainted many years ago I would peg the mileage at 119k and not the 19k as indicated. The glass is all original and the interior looks very original.

  • deusexmachina77 (registered bidder) 3 years, 10 monthsago

Is there any old paperwork to substantiate the mileage?

Hello all, I have just added 59 new photos that will be uploading shortly.
We acquired this car out of an estate of a local WA resident's deceased parents who were 914 enthusiasts . This was the father's 914 2.0 and we also had 75 914 2.0 w/ AC that belonged to the mother but that car sold already. The car had sat for at least two years when we got it. We commissioned a local shop to get the car to running status as seen in the photos of the invoice. The car drives very well, all gauges function, electrics work, and it shifts easily up/down in all gears. Unfortunately all the previous repair receipts from the owner were discarded when the house was being cleaned and prepped for sale so we did not get any documentation with he car, but it is apparent that this 914 was his pride and joy.

The floors appear very solid. The battery tray has been replaced at some point, there is some rust that looks like it was treated (not replaced metal) in the structure below. The jack points are all very solid. The trunk floors have minimal light surface rust in the seams of the bracing and are pretty solid. The wheels and glass are all original. The body is very solid with only one area of visible bubbling under the paint and this is limited to the fender/cowl seam on the driver side by the antenna. There are some chips here and there that have been touched up no dents or scrapes to the body. There is a small ding in the rear bumper on the right side. The rockers seem to be riveted on and I am not willing to pop these off myself. The Right side rocker has a dent in it by the rear jack plug. This is a very cool car in person and has a lot of potential for a performance build or can be enjoyed the way it is.

In addition to the photos requested by "enroute" (longitudinals with rocker covers removed are critical), could you provide photos of floorpan behind seats from inside cabin- when rear window leaks, water often sits here. Also, photos of underside of doors would be helpful...thanks

  • amc2021 (seller) 3 years, 11 monthsago

Undercarriage photos and receipts have been uploaded. The car has two factory Porsche keys, antenna key, Porsche key fob, and the following items: new repro tool kit, repro owners manual, original sales brochure, original Clymer service manual, original jack, matching alloy spare wheel/tire, and 914 Hot Wheels toy car. More photos of flaws and added description, answers to questions tomorrow.
