Up for auction is this 1974 Porsche 914 2.0 finished in Yellow over a Black leatherette interior.  Ideal for the Porsche enthusiast that is looking for a weekend thrill, this 914 offers that visceral air-cooled driving experience that so many people desire.  Purchased by a PCA member approximately one year ago, the current owner is now offering this 914 with a clean bill of health, ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.

This 914’s vibrant Yellow exterior underwent a repaint some years ago and is stated by the seller to remain in very good condition, only bearing some minor chips and wear which is shown in the photo gallery.  All glass and trim on the car remain in excellent condition and the removable Targa top is said to be like new. This 914 rides on a set of eye-catching EMPI wheels that are paired with new Bridgestone tires. The seller notes that the original Steelie wheels will be included in the sale.

This example is factory finished with a black leatherette interior that shows to be in excellent original condition.  Only a few flaws are noted which include a small crack on the dashboard.  Coco mats are installed and show to be in great condition along with the factory gauges and leather wrapped steering wheel.  All electrical components are said to be in working order aside from the radio and odometer which stopped working in Summer of 2019 with approximately 200 miles added since.  With minimal effort, this interior could be brought to near-perfect condition.

This 914 carries its factory 2.0L 4-cylinder engine which is said to remain in great running condition with a fully functioning fuel injection system.  Power is delivered to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission that is said to shift with extreme ease.  A complete engine rebuild was been carried out by a previous owner which is documented on service records that are included in the sale.  The seller does note that this 914 has received all-new brake pads and rotors with only 200 miles driven since.  A pair of upgraded Bilstein rear shocks along with Turbo tie-rods have been installed making for a more visceral and connected driving experience.

The sale will include two keys, factory books, service records, a spare tire and a set of factory steel wheels.

@Afyrigos to my knowledge it is. I acquired this 914 after the date when Porsche stopped providing COA's, otherwise I would have tried to get one. Also, from what I have heard, sourcing factory production records on these can be spotty due to the production history. But there is no evidence nor anything in records to indicate this NOT being the original engine.

Hello, is the engine the original 2.0l and matching serial number with the chassis ?

@andyawb thank You....that is the photo that prompted the question...

  • andyawb (seller) 4 years, 9 monthsago

@BlackSlacks no, original color is Ravenna Green. You can see it on photo #41 on the vertical strut in the frunk, just below and to the right of the windshield wiper. It's slightly more green than the yellow overspray color and a pretty desirable color.

@RedBoxCar yes, I am out of town but the car is at my shop in Chicago. Our crew will be putting it on a lift to get pictures of the longitudinals and the battery tray. They will send Monday morning and I will get them sent to the pcarmarket people ASAP. Thanks for looking!

The 73 and 74 2.0 liters are THE 914's to own, well okay that's if you can't have a 6. Overall this looks to be a fine example but I am wondering if the owner might be able to include some photos of the region under the battery commonly referred to as the hell hole and the longitudinals. Thanks in advance.
