Representing the inaugural year of the G-Body 911, this 1974 Porsche 911 Targa came factory-finished in Silver Metallic over a Midnight interior and features rare special-order “Ornamental Painting”. The car was sold new in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and relocated to Tucson, Arizona, where it remained with its original owner up until his passing in 2022. Accompanied by a Porsche Production Specifications certificate, this remarkable 911 Targa has been mechanically recommissioned following long-term storage and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Arizona.

Introduced in 1974, the G-Body 911 is distinguished from its long-hood predecessor by its integrated bumpers with black bellows and a “Heckblende” full-width taillight reflector. This Targa is finished in Silver Metallic and features optional Ornamental Painting with factory graphics on the hood and sides. Other equipment includes a removable black roof panel, a brushed silver bar, a polished driver’s side mirror, chrome trim and headlight bezels, front vent windows, tinted glass, and a fender-mounted antenna. The car rides on factory 15” Fuchs forged alloy wheels recently mounted with new Pirelli tires. The seller notes higher paint meter readings on the rear decklid and an inoperable aftermarket alarm switch is mounted next to the 911 badge. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin features Midnight leatherette upholstery and adjustable front bucket seats, folding rear seatbacks, and a black four-spoke steering wheel. Other equipment includes a wooden Porsche-crested shift knob, an aftermarket Sony stereo, carpet floor mats, a heater, an analog clock, manual window cranks, and optional factory gauges for the oil tank, oil level, and oil pressure. The seller notes a split seam on the bottom of the driver’s seat and some age-related cracks on the driver’s seat bolster.

A fuel-injected 2.7-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 150 HP and 175 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle. Factory equipment includes four-wheel disc brakes and optional stabilizer bars at the front and rear. The seller notes extensive service was recently completed after the car had been in storage for many years. Maintenance items included replacing the fuel tank, warmup regulator, fuel accumulator, fuel injector, fuel lines, spark plugs, fluids, filters, hood/decklid struts, valve cover gaskets, a new battery, ignition switch, thermal-time switch, throttle bell crank, and more.

This sale will include owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, a Porsche Production Specifications certificate, and a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “An absolutely stunning 1974 example, very original and well-kept example. It is a survivor, not a restoration, so expect some aging and patina for this 50-year-old classic. Truly a rare Targa with special options only seen in this era.”

@BoxsterGT Yes, it does make it a bit of a challenge, but we were able to source the lines through Continental and Cohline, but also still sourced a couple of OEM through Porsche...Porsche guys always find the way !

It is well known that the original 74 Fuel Lines had issues and are NLA. What was used for the replacements?

  • Schalten (registered bidder) 7 months, 1 weekago

Is the hood graphic painted on or a sticker? Nice car. I can smell the oil and feel the shifter and stuff clutch now.

@Porscheman81 Thank you ! Yes, this one feels like time travel :) Those are the original wheels ...

  • Porscheman81 (registered bidder) 7 months, 1 weekago

wonderful time capsule ! only thing that doesnt look right to be is the wider rear wheels...they are the originals ?

  • MotorgroupLLC (seller) 7 months, 1 weekago

@Roma Haven’t put on enough miles to gauge consumption, but nice and dry underneath after we renewed valve cover gaskets that were old and seeping. Brake pads and rotors good, no rust issues, all the body panels in great condition no bubbles or signs of rust, floorboards solid and look almost like they did in 1974 on the interior.

  • Roma (registered bidder) 7 months, 1 weekago

Would the Seller plz comment on any oil leaks/consumption, rust and life remaining on rotors/pads? THX

  • MotorgroupLLC (seller) 7 months, 1 weekago

@GrandNatty We have books and manuals but did not receive service files from last owner.

  • GrandNatty (registered bidder) 7 months, 1 weekago

@MotorgroupLLC - any detailed service records? From the work noted or PO's care?
