Introduced as a purpose-built factory race car in 1974, the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 represents one of the most successful Group 4 racing cars of all time. This 1974 Porsche 911S Coupe has been restored and modified as an homage to the #55 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 driven by the Écurie Robert Buchet racing team in the 1975 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was built by John James Racing between 2015 and 2021 featuring a full RSR body kit, a lightweight racing interior, a fire suppression system, 935-style front suspension, adjustable Penske coilovers, a 930 short-ratio steering rack, upgraded 930 brakes, a 5-speed 915 manual gearbox, and a limited-slip differential. The car derives power from a custom 3.0-liter flat-six engine with twin-plug heads, PMO 46mm carburetors, headers, and a Stinger exhaust. Driven approximately 500 miles since completion, this street-legal Carrera RSR tribute is now being offered for auction out of Florida.
This 911S Coupe has been modified with a full Carrera RSR 3.0-style body kit including a fiberglass hood and bumpers, a Whale Tail rear spoiler, door panels, and fender flares with integrated air vents. The car is finished in white with a #55 Écurie Robert Buchet racing livery. Accessories include a center hood-mounted fuel filler, an external cutoff switch, hood pins, integrated tow hooks, yellow-tinted headlamps, lightweight Lexan windows, dual black racing mirrors, and black wheels dressed in Goodyear Eagle racing tires.
The lightweight racing interior includes a pair of fixed low-back bucket seats in black cloth along with a painted roll cage, a three-spoke MOMO steering wheel, a Rebel Racing shifter, and a fire suppression system. Other accessories include shift indicator lights, a custom switch panel, window netting, and a drilled aluminum accelerator pedal.
Sourced from a 1976 Porsche 911, the air-cooled 3.0-liter flat-six engine has been rebuilt featuring XDI twin-plug ignition, PMO 46mm carburetors, ITG air filters, Carrera chain tensioners, English headers, and a Stinger exhaust, The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed 915 manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The chassis includes 935-style front suspension, a full 935 cross member and link assembly, Penske coilovers from Kelly Moss, nitrogen remote reservoirs with 6-way adjustable damping, Hyperco springs, spherical bushings, fully adjustable sway bars, adjustable billet rear trailing arm plates, a 930 short-ratio steering rack, and 930 brakes with Pagid race pads and a 23mm ATE master cylinder.

@Justice1137 yes
@jmz hello
Yes lot of bills all the entire set up from the engine builder
For Sebring as I said it was just to warm up the car and check everything was ok
I did not want to push the car too much as I already wanted to start a new project
I remember this car has been for sale for a while I believe. If I’m right it is viper green underneath the livery.
Do you have a link to the shop that built the engine? Any paperwork on the engine build?
Seems times were off at Sebring and not all races completed. Was there a tuning issue or a mechanical failure or anything a potential buyer should be made aware of before bidding?

@classiccarexplorer_
@gman71b yes for both seat
@analogmike thanks, I started last because of the qualification and fist time in Sebring (honestly I was totally lost) and first time racing the car. So I did not want to push it too much.
I did the running on at homestead during an open track day.
@Classiccarexplorer thank you. Please confirm 5 pt harness?
Thank you for the info. The race video shows great power at the start, and fantastic driving, passing cars on the left and right. Was there a problem that prevented you from getting any fast laps? Has it been cured?
@Bruce914 good luck 🤘🏁
@gman71b yes it is original color is viper green
@analogmike yes magnesium from 3.0 carrera has they did before to build the RS and RSR
@JD458 unfortunately I do not have the dyno and tried to get it from Rick ware racing but still waiting it
But the owner told me 350 hp but honestly I raced many Porsches and belong to me Thais car has 320 hp max but lot of torque. Do not need to reach hight rpm to feel the power in Sebring I was 7000 rpm max during the race.
I did a full gas tank for the running in period before the race.
@JD458 Good morning bidders and nice to meet you.
Let me give you a little more history about this car and then I will answer to your personal answers.
I purchased this car a year ago to start racing here in USA. I was racing 12 years in France with a 911 ST 2.3 I built from scratch.
I own several vintage Porsche 2.0 S, 904 gts , gt3 RS, 911 SCRS ….
So I am selling this RSR Le Mans tribute to build a GT40 to race here and get the most competitive car and I can not keep the Porsche as I need this money to build the gt 40 and not enough space to keep everything.
This car is brand new and just participated to SVRA in Sebring just to check if everything was ok with the car and it was good as everything is OK.
Porsche rsr engine history
The past owner started this project in 2011. It tooks his time to build the best RSR without any spending limits for this car.
- 2011 he baught a new stock 3.0 engine (930.02) number #6660018. This engine are pretty rare and high demand as they are chosen to build RS or RSR as it is the engine requested for FIA homologation.
Engine was set up for HSR group 5.
the 930/02 is the Carrera 3.0 engine. It is based on the Turbo 3.0 block and crankshaft, it is WAY lighter then the 930/04 (SC engine) based on the Turbo 3.3engine block
This engine has been purschased in 2011 from Clewett Engeniering in California.
Then has been sent to Exclusive Motorwerks in NORTH CAROLINA in 2012 to complete an entire rebuild project.
- complete resurfacing cylinder head
- Valve job (EBS spring, seat
- Twin plug cylinder head
- PMO carbs
- Billet camshaft DC 60 cam set
- Piston ring 95*1.5*1.75*3.5
- Intake valve 49 mm TRW
- JE piston 95
In the meantime gearbox 915 has been rebuilt with LSD and racing clutch.
Then the engine has been sent to Rick Ware Racing to complete the set up and reach more power they worked on top end adding big valve and cams with .573 lift VS .460
Ports and polish head.
New LSD to control the power.
Then the past owner did a one day DE when he got the car back, then it sat. Most it ran was on and off the trailer to a car show or the last shop for a fluid/ tire change.
In 2015 the brake were update to RSR turbo specification rotors, calipers and pads
Ate master cylinder 23 mm
2015 the car was sent to John James racing for an entire body rebuilt to RSR specification
Complete disassembly of car, put car on rotisserie.
- remove undercoating.
- Rebuilt all floor pan
- Full paint
- Brand new wiring harness
- Fuel and oil linkage
- Windows
- RSR kit
In 2017 new exhaust from GT racing and Rennshift package
Last maintenance has been completed at Jack Lewis ltd in July 2021.
New set of tires
all fluid changed
12 spark plug
Full scale and alignement
Gas charge for shocks
Carb tune and timing
In 2023 new RSR seats
New windscreen from 5 stars
New wrapping
What a cool build. If I can convince the wife to do the 200 mile drive to Monterey in August for speed week I am a bidder.
Is this a wrap?
it says it’s a 1976 engine, is that a magnesium case? Usually use a 911 SC or 3.2 Carrera case for these.
A street legal 911 race car. Fun.
Great car! Do you have any data on the engine that you car share such as the power/torque curve?
