Recognizing Max Hoffman’s request for a sportier version of the 02 Series compact executive car, BMW launched the 2002 model for the American market in 1968 featuring a more powerful 2.0-liter M10 engine. This 1974 example is a 2002tii version featuring a fuel-injected M10 inline-four engine and was acquired by the seller from its previous owner in California. It has since been refinished in a custom shade of red and is upgraded with an E21-series Getrag 5-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential as well as E21 sport brakes, Recaro sport seats, shorty headers, and Bilstein HD shocks with Eibach sport springs. Comprehensively serviced including a recent valve adjustment and new water pump, this 2002tii is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Hawaii.
This 2002tii was refinished in the current Red/Malaga mix paint color under current ownership. The original front and rear “diving board” bumpers have been replaced with an aftermarket Turbo-style front air dam and a factory BMW Euro-spec rear bumper. The car rides on gold-painted 14” BMW E30 “Bottle Cap” wheels. The seller notes the tires are less than 2 years old and some corrosion is present on the hood and C-pillars as well as paint drip marks over the rear wheel wells. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The black vinyl interior has been fitted with a pair of sought-after BMW E21 Recaro sport seats. Other modifications include a three-spoke MOMO Prototipo steering wheel and aftermarket trim rings around the gauges. The cabin also features a woodgrain instrument panel, a wooden BMW gear knob, a sunroof, manual window rollers, an aftermarket stereo, and a genuine Hirschmann antenna. Some cracks are present in the dashboard and the seller recommends cleaning or replacing the headliner. All gauges and electronics are said to be working properly.
The 2002tii is powered by a fuel-injected 2.0L M10 inline four-cylinder engine originally rated at 130 HP and 131 lb.-ft of torque. The engine has been upgraded with aftermarket shorty headers and a 123igntion distributor. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement Getrag 5-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential sourced from a BMW E21. The car was also fitted with E21-sourced sport brakes as well as stainless-steel brake lines and Bilstein HD shocks paired with Eibach sport lowering springs. The seller notes major services were addressed throughout their ownership including the recent replacement of the water pump, spark plugs, ignition wires, fuel filter, battery, coolant hoses, an oil change, and a valve adjustment.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a collection of service records, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “Thank you for vising my auction. This was my first Tii and I've owned this car for more than 3 years. I used this car as a daily driver while I attended graduate school in Monterey California for Engineering. It has never failed me and was very well taken care of. I kept the maintenance up to date and only had the car serviced at reputable shops familiar with classic BMWs like this one. The shocks springs and struts have less than 2000 miles on them, and the tires are newer and have less than 1500 miles. The E21 5-speed shifts very well and the stock M10 engine runs very strong. This car receives lots of attention and love and all electronics work as they should.”

Congratulations to the winner. Thanks seller for making yourself available and the prompt responses to the last minute questions. There's some other 2002 in my future, hope it's as nice as this one.
Nice buy on this clean tii with some hard-to-find parts. Would have been in it to win it if I had the space. Congrats to the new owner and hope it goes back to CA!

@Jwkjr1 Hi, JW. Would love for her to go back to CA. Still have the CA blue plates. Shipping to Hawaii was a little over $600 for me. I'd expect about the same a little more. There are 3 major shipping companies out here that you can work with but Matsons seems to be the biggest shipping power player out here.
Bid in the amount of $1,000
Any idea on shipping costs to CA ??
@froggycar Hi, Froggy. The paint is a close match but a shade brighter. There is absolutely no rust in the rockers or shock towers. I don't have underbody pics and that front fascia was replaced well before I purchased the car so I'm not too sure the reasoning. There is no structural rust but there is some surface rust on the hood and one of the c-pillars as shown in the gallery.
@salimhalid - NIce driver tii. Questions: How far off is the paint color from the original Malaga red? Since this is a sunroof car, is there any rust in the rockers? Do you have any underbody pics? Any significant rust? This is a tii, however the the front nose clip looks to have a snorkel. Please clarify. Thanks
