Produced in the latter half of the 1973 model year, this “1973.5” 911T Targa is among the last of Porsche’s early long-hood 911s and carries a Bosch CIS fuel-injected 2.4-liter engine. The car came factory-finished in Blue Metallic and is accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity showing a matching engine serial number as well as optional Comfort Equipment, forged alloy wheels, stabilizer bars, tinted glass, and cabin noise suppression. An especially desirable example of a classic air-cooled 911, this 1973 Targa is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.

This 911T was factory finished in Blue Metallic (84) and is said to have been completely repainted in its original color several years ago. The seller adds that all glass was removed during this time and the paintwork was carried out to a very high standard. Equipment includes a removable black roof panel and silver Targa band, a chrome driver’s side mirror, front driving lamps, black model lettering, slim European-style rear bumpers, and 15” Fuchs forged alloy wheels dressed in Goodyear Eagle GT tires. The optional Comfort Equipment package also adds trim and chrome rocker moldings from the 911S. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The black leatherette interior presents 911S-style instrumentation and stainless-steel door sills as part of the Comfort Equipment package. Other features include a black leather steering wheel cover, tinted glass, a quartz clock, a locking glovebox, and a sound system paired with a vintage Kenwood KRC-4003 cassette stereo.

This 911T is powered by an air-cooled Bosch CIS fuel-injected 2.4L flat-six, which delivers up to 140 HP to the rear wheels through a rebuilt 915 5-speed manual transmission. The engine is also said to have been rebuilt including the installation of upgraded Carrera chain tensioners. An extensively documented service history is said to accompany the sale.

The sale will include owner’s manuals, a Porsche COA, a toolkit, a spare tire, and a collection of records.

The seller would like you to know: “A rare chance to own a late model long hood offered with CIS fuel injection. In stunning blue on black.”

May I see pictures of the front and rear seals on the Targa top? Also I would like to see the windshield seal and rear window seal where they meet the Targa roof. Has the Targa roof ever been rebuilt?

  • bigvitty4u (seller) 1 year, 7 monthsago

@opener it's has the A/C components. And as far as I know pretty much all of it is present!! All items are neatly boxed and will fit in the car no problem!

  • opener (registered bidder) 1 year, 7 monthsago

Thanks for the follow-up. I see on the COA that the car had A/C. When was it removed? Are the A/C components available? How was the hole in the cowl patched/filled?

@opener I am with the car now. No rust on this car that we could find and wanted to double examine the areas you asked about. No rust. Some undercoat/paint peeling that I now could see would cause the question you're asking. But it's all good.

As for the heat exchangers they seem to be in very nice condition.

Engine was rebuilt at 96k miles and I will add the receipt to the gallery now.

Please let me know if you have any more questions.

    Thanks!!

Looks like a well preserved ‘73 Targa. Sounds like a very nice running engine. I owned a 73 S Targa many years ago and it was a great car. A few questions: Pic 105 shows some separation near the jacking point. Is that just undercoating separating from the undercarriage or is there some rust there? Also, what is the condition of the heat exchangers, particularly the upper area that is very difficult to photograph? Can you post a photo of the COA? Are there invoices for the engine rebuild? BTW, great color.
