A joint development between Porsche and Volkswagen, the 914 was offered as Porsche’s entry-level sports car featuring a mid-mounted air-cooled engine and distinctive Targa bodywork built by Karmann. Having spent time in Tenessee area until the second owner's acquisition in the early 1980s in California, this 1973 Porsche 914 1.7 was acquired by the current California owner in running condition in 2016. An ideal subject for restoration, this example is now being offered for auction at no reserve on the seller's behalf with a complete of collection.
This 914 presents a white finish and rides on aftermarket multi-spoke wheels with black finished centers, silver lips, and a set of older Metric Steel Radial tires. Other equipment includes a pair of headlights, chrome door handles, chrome quarter window trim, and a deck lid accented with Porsche lettering and black race-style stripes. A matching hood and rear trunk lid will accompany the sale along with a black Targa top, front/rear grille inserts, and several additional parts. Largely disassembled, this example is ready for restoration.
Inside, a black driver’s seat and passenger’s seat frame are fitted along with a leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel. Other equipment includes door handles, roll-up window handles, and a deteriorated dashboard that houses an AM/FM radio and climate controls. The gauges, electronics, and accessories are nonfunctional, and the cabin requires restoration. The included parts are shown in the gallery.
An air-cooled 1.7-liter flat-four engine and 5-speed manual transaxle have been removed and will accompany the sale along with the rest of the car's parts. The seller notes that the engine is stock and original to the car, although no documentation is available to confirm the engine number.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This 1973 Porsche 914 was bought as a father-and-son project in 2016. They are the third owner, purchased from an elderly man who owned it since the early 1980s. It came from the Tennessee area to California in the mid-1980s and has remained in California since. Due to military obligations and Covid, the car sat and the project never began as planned. Now asked to relocate to the East Coast, this 914 needs to find a new home. I hope this example finds a good home and perhaps another father-and-son or daughter will finish this project. This 914 was running at the time when purchased, and all parts will come with it.”

@tubby356 All the hardware is complete and comes with the sale. 914 was in running condition, when purchased in 2016 and was driven to seller home. I have reviewed all the parts/bin. I have known about this 914 purchase since 2016.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks
I see some plastic bags with writing on them. Is all the hardware there? There is nothing worse then doing a restoration and having to track down original hardware.
@maj75 914 comes with clean California Title as stated above.
Let me know if I didn't answer your question properly.
Title?
@anspach356 Sorry no A/C parts.
Do you have the A/C parts? I don't see them in the photos.
@tubby356 Seller told me it was 1.7l.
