Built in May of 1973 and later purchased from Catron Porsche of Pomona, this 1973 Porsche 914 2.0 remains in Southern California under the care of its third owner.  The car has been refinished in a nonmetallic dark blue Porsche color and features a host of upgrades and refurbishments including a Dansk exhaust, stainless steel heat exchangers, a MOMO steering wheel, 917-style shift knob, adjustable Koni dampers, and more.  This classic 2.0-liter Porsche 914 is now being offered for auction with its original manuals, Blaupunkt radio, Fuchs wheels, and 1973 California license plate.

This 914 has been refinished in a Porsche-derived nonmetallic shade of dark blue with contrasting silver stripes on each side.  Other features include chrome bumpers with integrated front fog lights, a chrome driver’s side mirror, vinyl sail panel covers, and a “Porsche” logo center taillight insert.  The original 2.0-Package front air dam is said to accompany the sale and a new windshield has been installed using proper butyl rubber cement. The factory 15” Fuchs alloy wheels were mounted with 2018-dated Vredestein Sprint Classic tires within the last 2k miles.  The car is said to have been originally finished in Zambezi Green and the exterior is said to remain in fair condition overall, with the seller noting some peeling clear coat on the hood and some aged rubber pieces.  Additional images are provided in the gallery.

The brown leatherette interior features basketweave pattern inserts on the seats, dashboard, and door panels as well as an aftermarket MOMO Prototipo steering wheel trimmed in distressed leather.  Other additions include Coco floor mats, a wooden 917-style shift knob, and refreshed gauges with upgraded LED bulbs.  The original Blaupunkt Frankfurt stereo has been retained and the seller notes a few cracks on the dashboard and tears on the driver’s seat.  An assortment of spare interior parts and trim pieces is said to accompany the sale.

The air-cooled 2.0L flat-four engine includes Bosch fuel injection as well as an upgraded Dansk exhaust with stainless steel heat exchangers.  The engine case is unoriginal to the car, although the factory numbers matching case is said to be available as well.  Power is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual transmission.  The seller reports adjustable Koni shocks and struts have been installed along with upgraded front brake calipers sourced from a BMW 320i. The seller states a detailed record of service history will be provided to the next owner.

This sale will include a clean title, owner's books, service records, repair manuals, and assorted spare parts including the original engine case, trim, rubber pieces, seals, and much more.

    Hi @shawn914,
A request for some follow up photos please.
Can you send photos of the manufacture tag in the door jamb and pictures of the inside the battery(hellhole) +’closeups photos of the seams where the pillars meet the front fenders?

I am very interested but would like to veiny these areas. Thanks!

@shawn914 - thanks! Photos on spoiler, seat and dash issues coming please?

  • shawn914 (seller) 2 years, 7 monthsago

@JNasty Hi, 1. Graphics are decals over the clear coat. 4. Interior color was not changed. 5. Engine built to spec. Was rebuilt by previous owner I believe approximately 60k or less ago.

@shawn914 - a couple QQs please: 1) are the rocker graphics paint or decals? If decals, under or over the clear? 2) Can you shoot close-ups of the dash cracks and seat tears? 3) can you shoot the original front spoiler and show condition? 4) exterior color changed, was the interior too? 5) engine rebuilt to stock or to what spec and what year/mileage was it done? Thanks.

@Rico914 The Speedo occasionally sticks on initial take off when cold. Mileage is not actual mileage as the engine has been rebuilt.

  • Rico914 (registered bidder) 2 years, 7 monthsago

@shawn914 - Speedo isn't moving in beginning of video but seems to catch up (but not actual speed?) later. Feedback on this along with actual mileage?

    Car looks great. GLWTA
