Up for auction is this 1973 Porsche 914/4 finished in Saturn Yellow over a black leatherette interior. Developed in a collaborative effort between Porsche and Volkswagen, the 914 is a mid-engine two-seater roadster that has become increasingly valuable and sought after in recent years. Sold new from Jones Porsche-Audi of Massachusetts, this 1973 example represents the original iteration of the 914 and is equipped with an air-cooled 1.7L flat-four engine paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Currently showing just under 21k-miles on the 5-digit odometer, this very nicely presented 914 is being offered for auction by its seller out of California accompanied by the owner’s manuals, tools, and a copy of the original purchase order.
This 914 remains finished in its factory-specified color of Saturn Yellow, a shade offered exclusively on 914 models. Some minor imperfections are noted throughout the exterior, a collection of detailed images is provided in the photo gallery along with paint meter readings. Equipped with the optional “Appearance Group”, this 914 features chrome bumpers as well as front fog lights. It rides on genuine 15” Fuchs 4-bolt wheels which are finished in chrome and dressed in period-style Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. The original spare tire is included.
Inside, the cabin is trimmed in black leatherette with basketweave pattern upholstery on the seats and dashboard beltline. An optional center armrest console is equipped from the factory, Coco floor mats have been added, and a period Sapphire XIX radio is mounted in the dashboard.
This 914 carries an air-cooled 1.7L flat-four engine that sends approximately 80 HP to the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed manual gearbox. With its mid-mounted engine and curb weight of just over 2,000 lbs., the 914 offers a visceral and spritely driving experience. Most of the historical service records were lost during the previous ownership, although a major service is confirmed to have been carried out in November of 2016 by Automotive Associates of Canton which included all new rubber fuel lines, new ignition components, a new drive belt, all new shifter bushings, and rebuilt brake calipers. Some copies of the service invoices are provided for reference in the photo gallery.
This sale will include a toolkit, the original spare tire, a copy of the original purchase order, copies of records, and a clean title. Now is the perfect time to secure yourself a classic Porsche 914, do not miss your chance to get behind the wheel of this beautiful Saturn Yellow 1973 example.

Probably the nicest low mileage '73 914 you are ever going to see, well bought as "they" say. I know you are going to enjoy that car, biggest regret of my life (other than my first marriage) was selling mine.
@PCARMARKET thank you, not cool when people follow an auction just to promote their own.
@baddad nothing to be sorry for, sir! All’s fair in love and auctions!
Sorry beaker, I’ve been looking for a decent 73

Me :)
Can you someone tell me why this is getting so much money?

This will be a $50,000+ car in a year. Maybe I should bid.
This platform seems different than BaT inasmuch as how many times it resets the clock counter to 2
Minutes at the end of the auction...it’s done it like 8 times already :)
beaker... just hang in there... baddad is going to quit soon.

Very nice car, looks almost as good as mine did new in 1973. I had almost the exact same car in college with 55-mile daily commute and got great mpg. I had Sunflower (or Sun) Yellow with same black interior. 1973 was the best year for the 914s IMHO, first year with the "side-shift" transmission rather than the "tail-shift" and side-impact beams in the doors were introduced that year. Last year for aluminum door sills instead of black plastic ones and a few other minor differences. I love it! GLWA
@Azguy238 Thank you, yes for sure it's one that deserve all the LOVE. I'm online for the auction end folks, any questions I could answer I'd be happy to do so .

Thanks for clarifying. I wasn't sure. Again, a beautiful car.
@ssunssett1 no paint work, the big deal about this car is that it’s a 100% original, if you look there are some white lines in a few spots around the edges of trunk and hood, just a few signs of single stage paint aging.
The paint meter data is pretty consistent too
Bid in the amount of $11,500
Beautiful car. What can you share about the repaint. Thanks.
@Ksdaoski sadly the gentleman who bought the car on the last aution passed away, Covid complications, I posted the link to the Segment CBS LA did on him.
Why are you selling so recent after the last auction?
Bid in the amount of $11,000
Bid in the amount of $10,500
@Ksdaoski , Yes, I'll be posting some detailed photos of the right doorr and quarter lining up.
Also inside the rockers specially right side, it's a Rust free 914, just some surface stuff on some engine compnents, I wanted to leave them original and not do any coating or painting, the only one area we touched was the muffler, put a silver coating on it.
Thanks for confirming the engine and transmission being original to the car.
Any other photos showing the rocker panels? And rust in the body?
@Ksdaoski yes , engine, transmission and chassis all matching numbers, the only change is been the wheels, the spare is original. The 4 wheels on the car are Real Fuchs polished Aluminum wheels and in as new condition. I’ve had several 914 cars but this is the only one that actually shifts perfect, you could see that in the video
@jagalyn it’s all the original emblems, could be fading but will look into it
Bid in the amount of $9,388
Bid in the amount of $9,138
Numbers matching car?
Why is the 914 emblem on the back black and the 1.7 emblem faded?
Bid in the amount of $8,888
Bid in the amount of $7,500
@jagalyn little bigger gap on the passenger side but from what I’ve seen most these cars don’t have perfect matching gaps from left to right... posting some photos now of the gaps and under the battery area
Bid in the amount of $5,500
Can you please explain the gaps on the engine lid and trunk lid. It seems like a large gap on the passenger side. Thank you.
@Manpot yes I should have good shots, ill post showing the right door and quarter lining up perfectly, there is some coating material
They applied in 2016 to protect any acid or moisture running down that line, could have done a nice job. The battery was replaced at the same time in 2016 with a dry battery so no issue with acid leak from the battery
Very nice 914 indeed. A better shot of the "hell hole" under the battery would be a great idea. It looks like there is black paint under there and hopefully that just stopped surface rust before it got worse. As a previous 914 owner I know the damage a leaking battery can do but managed to stop mine before it got serious. This car would obviously be worth more if it had the 2 lite motor but the 1.7 really does a fine job and returns amazing mpg and smiles per mile. Wish I was in a position to grab this beauty..
Bid in the amount of $5,000
What a beauty. Lovely little 914. Someone will get a car they can really be proud of. GLWTA
