This 1973 Porsche 914, originally finished in Phoenix Red, now showcases a distinctive two-tone red and orange exterior with added front chin and rear lip spoilers. It features a black removable Targa top, pop-up headlights, and 15” Epsilon wheels. The interior, upholstered in black vinyl, includes bucket seats, the Appearance Group package, a 5-point safety harness, and a fabricated roll cage. The engine has been upgraded to a 2.0-liter displacement with Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection, Mahle pistons, an external oil cooler, steel fuel lines, and a 2.0-specification crankshaft. Suspension modifications and front-specification calipers at the rear disc brakes enhance its driving dynamics. A matching trailer and a stock 1973 914 engine block are included. Originally an Arizona car, this 914 was acquired by its seller in 1990 and is now being offered for auction out of New Mexico accompanied by its unique trailer.
Factory-specified in Pheonix Red, this 914 has been refinished multiple times. It now presents a two-tone red and orange and features a black removable Targa top, pop-up headlights, fog lights, polished bumpers, black sail panels, side mirrors, and earlier-model 914 doors without side beams. Front chin and rear lip spoilers have been added. It rides on paint-matched 15” Epsilon wheels wrapped in Goodyear Reliant tires. The seller notes slight hood gap variations, that the car has been converted to a 5-lug bolt pattern, and that the paint was top-coated in 2024, with additional paintwork occurring in 1988. Additionally, The seller mentions that repairs were made after off-track incidents during the current ownership, and parts of the front clip were replaced by the previous owner. The matching trailer, constructed around 2005 using components sourced from a 914, is equipped with four-bolt Epsilon 15″ wheels. Recently refurbished in 2022, it has been upgraded with a new towing assembly. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin is upholstered in black vinyl and features bucket seats, a 4-spoke steering wheel, and the Appearance Group package which adds auxiliary gauges to the center console. The seller reports a few flaws in the vinyl and has added a 5-point safety harness to the driver’s seat, a Blaupunkt cassette radio, a fire extinguisher, and a fabricated roll cage, along with the recent installation of a new dashboard. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to function as intended.
Power is derived from a rebuilt mid-mounted flat-four engine modified to displace 2.0-liters, featuring Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection, an MSD 6AL CDI ignition system with a Pertronix pointless ignitor, an external oil cooler, steel fuel lines, Mahle pistons and cylinders, milled heads for higher compression, and a 2.0-specification crankshaft. The rear wheels are driven through a 5-speed manual transaxle. The suspension modifications include a 21mm adjustable front sway bar with Heim joint drop links, 22mm front torsion bars, bolt-in solid front shock towers, revised rear springs, polyurethane control arm bushings, and Bilstein shocks. The four-wheel disc brakes are equipped with front-specification calipers at the rear. The seller reports to have replaced the head gaskets in 2023, along with seals for the front-mount oil cooler. Additionally, during this time, the oil was changed, the valves were adjusted, and the engine bay was refinished. The seller notes a stock 1973 914 engine block is included.
This sale will include the owner’s manuals, a toolkit, a spare tire, some documentation, some spare and original parts, a set of extra three-piece Epsilon wheels and tires, 2 replica Fuchs wheels, a bare 914/2.0 engine block, a flat tow bar, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “I have owned and enjoyed this car for most of my adult life and have driven this car across the country as far as Providence town, Mass, and to the beach of Los Angeles. Not to mention driving it (not towing) to all track events in the middle of the country and never failing to make it home after some hard use on the track. It is my time to pass the torch to someone younger and for me to get on with some other Porsche projects that I have before I die. Thanks, for looking, and enjoy the fun videos!”

Damn, @huhspuppy... I don't know if it's just too eclectic for folks or outright bad luck that you didn't see more action. I kinda like it, something different for sure. I have my own project to worry about and this would've "fit the bill" for my entry to 914s when I was looking last year! I hope you have better luck finding the right buyer!

I added a few chassis pics without the new paint. The original hell hole has never needed repair and the inner fenders were never undercoated or any real corrosion. I did a small repair to the original battery tray shown in my latest pics. I did have to reinforce the front sway bar mounts and also show a little metal repair on the door jambs and the lower front rt fender. There was no rust at all under the sail pilar vinyl and they were simply painted with new vinyl. I added some rear chassis reinforcement to the right side only. the car had been tracked for many years and although no rust, there was some needed repair and reinforcement to these areas. A large swaybar is real hard on the swaybar mounts and not uncommon to need repair. Also notice the fuel pump in the front like to 75, 76 models to eliminate vapor lock problem on early cars. All fuel and vapor lines have been replaced within the past year. feel free to ask anything. I did it all personally and know everything you might want to know about just about any 914.
