Available for auction is this 1973 Porsche 914/4 finished in Summer Yellow (35) over a Black leatherette interior. Lauded by some as the best year for Porsche’s 914, the 1973 model saw the introduction of a 2.0L flat-four engine and the 914/12 “side-shift” 5-speed manual transmission. This 1973 example underwent a comprehensive restoration over the course of three years and received a rebuild of its flat-four engine using big bore pistons and cylinders. This 914 has since earned first-place wins at major events including the 2018 Porsche Club of America Concours d’Elegance, the 2018 Misselwood Concours d'Elegance, and the Boston Cup as well as the Museum Choice Award at Larz Anderson Museum of Transportation. Accompanied by a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this 1973 Porsche 914 2.0 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Virginia.
During the restoration process, this 914 was stripped to bare metal before being refinished in its factory-specified color of Summer Yellow (35). The car was reportedly delivered with a trim delete option, eliminating the vinyl sail panels and replacing the bright-finished bumpers with matte black pieces. Additional details include a single-side polished side-view mirror, a removable black Targa top, and 15” Pedrini alloy wheels dressed in continental tires.
The Black leatherette interior features basketweave pattern inserts on the seats, dashboard, and door panels, along with grey carpets. The Appearance Group center console includes an analog clock as well as gauges for oil temperature and battery voltage. Additional details include custom black and yellow Coco floor mats with a matching trunk liner, roll-up windows, VDO instrumentation, an AM/FM radio, and a heater.
Power comes from an air-cooled flat-four engine which was rebuilt during the restoration using a big bore piston and cylinder kit resulting in increased displacement and horsepower. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 914/12 “side-shift” 5-speed manual transaxle. Images of the undercarriage can be found in the gallery.
This sale will include the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity and a clean title.

@JustinEuroclassics Thank you for the quick response. Even though work was done to the engine, it would help the value of this auto if it was all matching numbers. Still...excellent looking car!
@Fastauto I have no information on the engine work from the restoration other than whats in this listing
Was the work done to the original engine or was this engine from a different car?

@muddymogriffin Yes, it was very well done! I do not know the specifics behind the engine work, the car has spent the last year and a half here at our dealership in a heated/cooled warehouse.
Stunning appearance. When was the 3 year restoration/engine rebuild completed? Source of the replacement engine? Any ownership/location history that you can share? The MT plates look good but I doubt it has been spent much time this way. Thanks.
@AK9eleven Sorry but I can not, the only information I have would be from the previous listing from the shop that did the restoration that only states what is in this listing.
Can you comment on the current displacement of the engine and approximate HP improvement? Thanks
Very lovely 914. Too bad it is not an engine numbers matching example :( But stunning nonetheless. I’ll be watching this one closely! GLWA?

@opener Looks like the engine number on the case is GA003409 so it does not match the COA.
Can you post a photo of the engine case number?
@robmsales Thanks Rob! Unfortunately we do not know the specifics behind the engine rebuild.
@robmsales Of course, I can help arrange shipping
@550bryan Thank you! Unfortunately we do not know the specifics behind the engine rebuild
@JustinEuroclassics- are you able to help with an enclosed trailer coming west?
Can't see sending this one on an open trailer-thanks Rob
@JustinEuroclassics- What a great looking 914- might be the best 914-4 on PcarMarket or any other auction site- the only thing I can see is a very small detail with the glove compartment -that's about it! What are the cubes with the big bore kit?- This 914 will do well-good luck
Rob
Excellent presentation of an excellent 914. GLWS

Beautiful 914 in a great color. Curious though, what was the displacement and HP gain from the big bore kit?
Bid in the amount of $9,142
