Up for auction is this 1973 Porsche 911T RS-style tribute finished in Guards Red over a black interior. Already equipped with an upgraded 2.7L fuel-injected engine, this non-sunroof 1973 example was purchased by its current owner in 2010 and has since been transformed into the custom RS-style tribute we see today. It received RS-style bodywork, interior refurbishment, and a host of performance improvements including a new MSD ignition system, a new clutch and flywheel, an Elephant Racing oil cooler, and a front strut stabilizer bar. Having been driven approximately 2k miles under the current ownership, this custom 1973 911T is now being offered for auction out of Montana accompanied by owner’s manuals, tools, and records dating back to the 1970s.
This 911T is said to have been refinished in the traditional shade of Guards Red under previous ownership. The original color of the car is noted to have been Irish Green and the seller indicates some minor cosmetic imperfections including a small chip on the front hood. A new windshield has been installed and a small area of rust is said to have been professionally repaired on the driver’s side front fender. The seller also reports the car to have been garage-kept throughout their ownership and only driven under ideal conditions, detailed images are provided in the photo gallery. Externally, this 911T has been modified with an RS-style front bumper, a classic Ducktail rear spoiler, Porsche side graphics, and a right-side mirror for added safety. It rides on a set of genuine 15" Fuchs wheels with painted center caps and Kuhmo tires. A full-size spare Fuchs wheel is included in the trunk.
Under the current ownership, the black interior has been refurbished with new carpeting, headliner, RS door panels, and sun visors. The speedometer was rebuilt by North Hollywood Speedometer and later-model seats with corduroy inserts have been installed along with a MOMO steering wheel and a period Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio. The true mileage remains unknown, and the windshield washers are reported to be nonfunctional.
Prior to the seller’s purchase, this 911T was fitted with a 2.7L fuel-injected flat-six engine sourced from a U.S.-spec 1975 911 Carrera (#6451005). The car has since been fitted with a new MSD ignition system, a new clutch and flywheel, a front strut stabilizer bar, dual Duracell AGM batteries, a reconditioned engine fan by Moshagen, and an Elephant Racing oil cooler with a thermostatically controlled fan. Later-model 911SC exhaust manifolds have also been added along with a Dansk sport muffler. The time of the last engine rebuild is unknown, although the car is said to be accompanied by volumes of service records dating back to the 1970s. All other routine maintenance items are reported to have been kept up to date.
This sale will include an assortment of tools and spare parts, original owner's manuals, three sets of keys, a full-size spare Fuchs wheel, and a clean title. With its RS-inspired styling and upgraded 2.7L engine, this 911T makes an excellent driver for any air-cooled Porsche enthusiast.

@RyanH I have a small can of the Guards Red paint in the car that was used to touch up an area near the gas filler flap where a couple of very small bubbles were present from suspected rust. That area was completely repaired. No bondo!!
@RyanH The paint is absolutely beautiful. There is one very small rock chip near the Porsche emblem on the frunk hood, about 2mm in size. That's the only one I can find. A previous owner repainted the car with the Guards Red color, so over 11 years ago. It was the finish that drew me to it and it has not deteriorated in the slightest. Before I took the photos, I waxed it with Torque and I must say, it is so smooth to the touch. Highly satisfied with that stuff. During my filming up the canyon road I picked up some road dust so will have to wash her again to get that off!!
My rating, although I'm not at all familiar with your scale: 8 or 9. Don't worry about the paint.
There appears to be some surface corrosion underneath the frunk. It's nowhere close to being beyond that. I did not pursue anything beyond looking at it and pounding on the areas. Probably should be sanded out and sealed. I never drove the car in the rain or bad weather. Got caught once on a trek and I don't use automatic car washes, so haven't created any rust problems.
The oil lines from the reservoir to the Elephant Racing oil cooler are within the last 4 years when we installed the cooler. I replaced the translucent hoses surrounding the gas tank in that period. Brake line have not been touched in my time as owner. Brakes work fine and while I purchased a can of brake fluid, haven't had to use any! There is also so much literature with this car that the answer could be in there somewhere..
Also, paint is really hard to get a good sense from photos since even shoddy paint can present well in photos. Can you provide some more detail on the paint quality? Any flaws like bubbling or peeling near trim or the edges? Rock chips? On a scale of 1-10 what would you rate the paint with 10 being OCD level concours and 7 non-car folks think it looks great but there are some flaws that car folks will catch?
Are there any areas of rust that you can see? It's hard to tell from the underside photos but it looks like there may be some under the frunk pan. Any idea when soft lines were last replaced (fuel, brake, oil)?
@RyanH Agreed! I had an '89 964 that started leaking less than 4K after a full motor rebuild!
That's funny!! I'm happy with the new sump cover, a little different than OEM but very effective. You can see it in one of the photos.
@grizzfan lol yeah, last year I did an engine out reseal on my 964 plus a few other while you're in there at the tune of roughly $10K in parts alone just for it to leak again. What's the saying? If your Porsche is not leaking, you better check the oil level?
It's a 911!!! I put on a new sump cover a couple of years ago and that reduced drips almost completely. A couple from tranny/transfer area, but acceptable to me. I've had the same cardboard under the car for about 3 years and it's good for another 3.

The write up doesn't mention that the 911 comes with a very nice and soft, fitting car cover.
As well, each Fuchs wheel has a locking wheel lug and the "key" is a special socket that is in the tool box.
It's great to learn something new every day!! I didn't know that, but I can "heel & toe" with the best of them!! Thanks for sharing that information.
@grizzfan That is the classic fix for the poor factory throttle pedal height that makes heel-toe shifting almost impossible. A piece of wood is just as effective and far more cost effective than the Rennsport pedal riser!

I just returned from my tire store and the green wires you saw, in my opinion and that of the mechanic/owner were serving no purpose. They were wrapped around the very stiff and solid brake line on each side, but were totally loose, not supporting anything. Perhaps some PO put them there for some reason but, as I said, they were loose and holding up nothing. I removed them. Thanks for pointing that out. Another mystery solved in this 48 year old car!

Thanks for that. I'll need to put her on a lift to see and remove if necessary. My mechanic who installed the Elephant Racing Oil Cooler may have a clue but the lift at the tire store is my best bet. I'll be back to you tonight.

The gas pedal is "left over" from a PO. It consists of a block of plywood attached to the accelerator mechanism. I had considered replacing all pedals with a set that you see advertised, but it works just fine, so put it into "deferred maintenance".
The white wires are a mystery to me as well. A PO had something in mind. It doesn't affect anything that I could discover, so I left it alone.

It was of interest to one viewer about the headlights. They are a Hella H4 upgrade.
- A former owner installed later model seats but I have not identified the period. They are supportive and comfortable. I recently had the vinyl refreshed on both seats. - I had new RS style door panels installed on both doors and the functional red pulls are a part of that look.
Here is a little more information that might be of interest to you: - A former owner installed the front dam and duck tail and, unfortunately I don't have the the original bumper or lid - There are several photos in the listing of the underside of the car, including the pan area. Minor surface blemishes there, nothing major. If you want more let me know. - The inside of the trunk (frunk) was recently refreshed and repainted. No rust that my body shop could find.

This is a very nice little Porsche that I've happily owned for 11 years. Soon the Market will post my drive up and down a canyon road. She handled superbly. A bit of camera bounce but you will be able to see how she does.
