Available for auction is this 1973 DeTomaso Pantera finished in red over a black interior. Introduced in March of 1970, the Pantera is an Italian-built mid-engined sports car that would go on to see a 22-year production run during which approximately 7,200 examples were built. It features a steel monocoque chassis, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, and ZF manual transaxle. Said to be a lifelong California car, this 1973 example has undergone a complete engine and transmission rebuild and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Virginia.
Styled by Italian design firm Carrozzeria Ghia, the Pantera features pop-up headlights, front and rear cargo compartments, and a quad-exit exhaust with chrome finishers. This 1973 model wears a red finish and is said to exhibit signs of wear consistent with the car's age. It rides on a set of Campagnolo wheels with DeTomaso logo centers, detailed images can be found in the gallery.
The cabin features bucket seating upholstered in black cloth with leather trim. Amenities include air-conditioning, power windows, a gated shifter, a push-button AM/FM radio, and a suite of Veglia instrumentation including gauges for amperage, fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure mounted in the center stack. The seller reports the seats have been refurbished and confirms that all gauges and accessories remain functional.
Power comes from a mid-mounted 351ci Ford V8 equipped with Weber carburetors with individual throttle bodies, driving the rear wheels by way of a 5-speed ZF manual transaxle. The seller states that the engine and transmission were rebuilt under previous ownership. Additional performance features include 4-wheel disc brakes, fully independent suspension, and rack and pinion steering.
This sale will include a clean title.
