Preceding the original 6-Series, the BMW E9 Coupe was produced from 1968 through 1975 featuring iconic Karmann-built bodywork designed by Wilhelm Hofmeister, and it served as a successful race car platform in the European Touring Car Championship. One of just 450 U.S.-market examples produced for the model year, this 1973 BMW 3.0CS has undergone several stages of refurbishment, including a refinish in black in 2000, interior and suspension refreshes in 2015, and the installation of a rebuilt 3.5-liter M30B35 inline-six engine in 2018 paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox in place of the original automatic transmission. Modifications include 16” Alpina-style wheels, dyno tuning, MegaSquirt engine management, adjustable Ground Control front strut mounts, and more. This example is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Kansas.
Produced from 1968 to 1975, the BMW E9 Coupe was designed by Wilhelm Hofmeister with bodywork by Karmann. It features traditional BMW styling cues including front kidney grilles, quad headlamps, and “Hofmeister kink” C-pillars adorned with BMW roundels. Other details include chrome bumpers and window trim, front fender vents, flush-mounted door handles, and a polished driver’s side mirror. Specified from the factory in Black (86), this example was refinished in 2000. It rides on staggered-width 16” Coupeking wheels with Alpina-logo center caps and Continental Extreme Contact DW Tuned tires from 2015 measuring 205/55 front and 225/50 rear. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The refurbished cabin presents black upholstery, a Nardi wood-rimmed steering wheel, a wood shift knob, an E24 rear bench, aftermarket speakers, a vintage-style digital stereo with Bluetooth connectivity, and Coco-style floor mats. Additional equipment includes VDO instrumentation, an analog clock, an analog clock, and an air conditioning system that has been converted to use R134a. The seller reports that the current owner has replaced the air conditioning compressor and belt.
Power comes from a rebuilt 3.5-liter M30B35 inline-six sourced from a 1988 BMW 635CSi and installed in 2018. The build included a custom ground and polished crankshaft, upgraded camshaft, 10.5:1 pistons, forged connecting rods, and an aluminum radiator. Under current ownership, dyno tuning was performed along with MegaSquirt MSPNP2 engine management. The seller notes that cold-start programming has not been completed, requiring two to three cranking cycles when starting cold. The rear wheels are driven through a Getrag 265 5-speed manual gearbox installed in 2018 in place of the factory automatic. A replacement clutch kit and factory-specification flywheel have since been fitted under current ownership. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs, while Ground Control adjustable upper front strut mounts provide additional chassis tuning capability.
This sale will include a clean title.

@CARchitects Happy to update the tune so the cold-start is sorted for the next owner. It’s been a while since it was on the dyno, so I agree it would be a good time to refresh and get a current sheet.
I have searched high and low for the dyno report and I was unable to come up with it. I agree, the numbers are truly impressive. The engine was personally rebuilt by Paul Burke. Research will show that he has been known for getting a lot of power out of these old six cylinder BMW motors. We have worked with Paul for a number of years and multiple engine rebuilds and have always been impressed.

Gorgeous car and mods. Would the seller be willing to have the cold-start programming completed for the winning bidder? Also interested in seeing a dyno report as 300hp is truly impressive.
Can you upload the Dyno results?
No easy to get 300hp from m30b35!
@zollerm HP is around 300.
HP? Thanks.
Beaut!
Thanks for checking out our E9! This was the final restomod my dad completed before he passed in 2019, and it came back to our family under meaningful circumstances in 2020. Bringing it home was a way to keep his work and passion alive, and it has been special to have it with us the past few years.
While we’ve owned it, we’ve focused on making it more dependable and fun to drive. The ignition was replaced with a button only because the original wasn't available, the front suspension was upgraded with Ground Control camber plates, and we replaced the A/C compressor that had failed. We installed a MegaSquirt PNP ECU and had it dyno tuned, which improved drivability and power. The flywheel was swapped for a stock-style that made it smoother and easier to drive in traffic.
We hate to see it go, but it’s time for someone else to enjoy it! I’ll address comments throughout the auction to answer any questions as quickly as I can.
