Debuted in 1970, the E was the most powerful iteration of Volvo's P1800 sports car series, equipped with a Bosch D-Jetronic electronic fuel-injected B20E inline-four engine. Its distinctive bodywork was styled by Swedish yacht designer Pelle Petterson under the direction of the renowned Pietro Frua. The P1800 series is widely known for its role as Roger Moore’s car in the 60s television series, The Saint. Acquired from an estate sale with minimal known history, this 4-speed 1972 1800E is believed to have been previously restored and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of New York.
The exterior design expresses performance and elegance through its rounded curves and long sweeping lines. This example has been refinished in what is believed to have been its original metallic blue color, complemented by the factory-correct steel wheels with red-colored “V” caps. Some cosmetic imperfections and patina are noted throughout the exterior, detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The interior features black leather upholstery, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, and a matching dashboard with accenting wood trim. The Smiths instrumentation frames various gauge clusters, including a 120-MPH speedometer and a 7k-RPM tachometer. The seller adds that all electronics and accessories are working properly, and the air conditioning unit has been updated to use R134a refrigerant.
The 1800E is powered by a Bosch D-Jetronic electronic fuel-injected 2.0-liter inline-four-cylinder B20E engine, generating up to 135 HP through a 4-speed manual transmission. This example is believed undergone a complete engine rebuild and brake system refurbishment under previous ownership. The seller notes that the brake booster and fuel pump mount likely need to be replaced.
This sale will include a clean title.

@57Angel-Salish yes certainly
Hey There,
I'm a former Volvo dlr. on the Left Coast in Seattle. Any possibility that we could speak briefly prior to auction's end? Much Thanks, Joe AKA 57Angel-Salish

@Arffbubba as someone who is not a Volvo expert, I want to make sure the car is presented as honestly as possible. We will add some more photos to the auction today, I can say the rear valence does appear to have prior body filler applied at some point but does show very well. Please check the listing in the next few hours for more photos.

@EUROsellinc soo….. is this a rusty car? Please speak to presence of or rust repair history please.
Thanks @terryreeb. I hope my comments were taken in a constructive way, and not as pure criticism. I really do have a soft spot for these cars, and for that reason I do like to have factual mistakes corrected when warranted. PCar may want to adjust its wording above to reflect the actual engine in this car, including its power rating.
Personally, I think this car is sporting one of the prettiest colors that Volvo ever sprayed on an 1800 coupe, and I wish I had the wherewithal to buy this one, and turn it into the stunner it could be. It deserves that attention, and I hope it gets it with its new owner. A classy classic, that is finally getting the appreciation and admiration it is due in the marketplace.
thanks Wadds for wading in!

@Arffbubba hello. In response to your question as well as to address other folks who are interested in bidding on the vehicle. The gentleman who was the claimed original owner and caretaker of the vehicle has passed away. His wife has dropped it off to us and we are storing the car at Pcarmarket HQ to accommodate inspections during the course of the auction. If there are any special requests for a close-up photos that you may have, should you not be able to make it a person. Please let us know when we are happy to accommodate.
@Superspread it is a manual. The description has been amended
FYI to bidders, this car was supposed to have come from the factory equipped with the lower-powered B20F engine, and not the B20E as stated. The former produced only 112 BHP, while the B20E engine (equipped on the earlier '70 and '71 1800E's) came with a higher-compression head, and produced 130 BHP. I can't get a clear look at the center head bolt on the right side of the engine to confirm which engine is in this car.
My initial enthusiasm for this listing began to fade as I inspected all the attached pics, unfortunately. The nice metallic blue paint (code 111) is pretty, but it does have a number of blemishes and flaws throughout, most notably the sizable dent to the right of the rear license plate light unit. I would sure want to see some extensive paint meter readings of the whole exterior, as I suspect a fair amount of body repair and bondo may be underneath. Overall, this car needs a good detailing to really see what's there. Then, some information from the Seller, @EUROsellinc, on the overall mechanical condition would be a really good idea. How healthy is that engine and drivetrain, brakes, cooling system, fuel-injection?
This car could be a great start on a decent-size refurbishment program, as it could look quite stunning once properly detailed and sorted. But, it's got a ways to go, IMO. I hope it finds an enthusiastic new owner to take it on.
What a beauty…….AND these are indestructible and reasonably simple?
@Tbest the summary at the end of the listing stated automatic. Agree totally with you comment.
@Superspread I’m not the owner, but the listing says manual and the photos show it’s a manual.

Seller, can you speak to presence of rust anywhere on this car? Thanks in advance. Your Marquis photo just gorgeous!
Stunning car! Timeless style. Are you sure it’s automatic? I doubt it.
