Built on the Volkswagen Beetle platform, the Karmann Ghia was the company's premier sports car, featuring hand-built bodywork. This 1972 model is finished in Bahia Red with black vinyl upholstery. It includes new 15” Empi 5-spoke wheels, Empi cylinder heads, and dual carburetors. Recent servicing includes an engine cleaning, pushrod tube seal replacement, clutch replacement, and much more. It is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Tennessee.
Regarded as one of the most iconic and attractive automotive designs, the Karmann Ghia was styled by Italy's Carrozzeria Ghia and hand-built in Germany by Karmann. This example, refinished in Bahia Red by a previous owner, recently underwent paintwork including clear coat sanding, color refreshment, and a new clear coat, with no bodywork reported. It also features a new windshield and seal, new rear window seal, and a new canvas Stayfast top installed in January 2024. Minor paint flaws remain, as noted by the seller. The car rides on new 15” Empi 5-spoke wheels with new Kenda tires fitted in April 2024. Detailed images are available in the gallery.
Inside, the front seats have been reupholstered in black vinyl, the door pockets have been replaced, and a new black carpet and headliner have been installed. Equipment includes a four-spoke steering wheel with VDO instrumentation, rear bench seating, a stereo, Bose speakers, and roll-up windows. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are reported to be in proper working order, except for the clock, which is currently inoperable, and the radio, which works intermittently.
Power is provided by an air-cooled flat four-cylinder engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. Over the past six years, the seller states that an engine-out cleaning included replacing the pushrod tube seal and installing a new clutch. Additionally, the car features Empi cylinder heads, dual single-throat carburetors, new CV joints, front brake pads, and rear shoes.
This sale will include a clean title along with the original air cleaner, carburetor, and manifold.
The seller would like you to know: “This car is in very nice driver condition. It drives excellently. I purchased it in August 2018 from North Palm Springs, CA, with 83,177 original miles. The car has since been driven occasionally, including an 800-mile round trip, but never during the winter.”

I believe a very light base coat was applied before the clear.
The cowl paint was badly faded so the horizontal surface was sanded down to a smooth surface and repainted base/clear coat and the hole front clear coat was removed and resprayed clear coat. The car had been repainted before I purchased, maybe 5-6 years before.
what does "color refreshment" mean?

This very nice car needs a new home. Someone will be getting a wonderful piece of German engineering that was compared to the Porsche Speedster in the early 1970's. If you want a chance to enjoy a Karmann Ghia then start bidding.
