Finished in the sought-after color of Irish Green over a black interior with leather Recaro Sport Seats, this Porsche 911S is especially desirable for its external oil filler lid seen during the 1972 model year only. It is said to have been acquired by the second and current owner in 1972 and has received a pair of steel 911 ST fender flares, modified suspension, larger Fuchs wheels, and an upgraded 2.7-liter engine. Remaining with its near-lifelong caretaker, this 911S is now being offered for auction out of Massachusetts.
This Coupe came factory-finished in Irish Green, a historic Porsche color that was also chosen to represent the one-millionth 911 produced in 2017. Steel 911 ST fender flares were sourced from Germany and installed during the 1980s. The lower front and rear valences have been painted black, and a pair of vintage Carello driving lamps are mounted in front. Other equipment includes dual chrome mirrors, a chrome rear bumper bar, black stone guard decals, red-painted brake calipers, pop-out rear quarter windows, and a set of staggered 16” Fuchs wheels dressed in new Bridgestone RE-11 tires. The seller notes some areas of the car have been refinished including the hood and rear quarters.
The black interior includes a pair of leather Recaro Sport Seats, an air-conditioning system, and power-operated windows. An aftermarket Eclipse radio has been installed and a fire extinguisher is mounted on the rear central tunnel. Upgraded A/C lines have been fitted and the seller notes the system may require a recharge to blow cold.
The seller states a replacement 2.7-liter flat-six was installed along with a new clutch and pressure plate after the failure of the original 2.4-liter motor during the 1980s. The new engine is said to have been built and blueprinted by R&D Automotive and includes an upgraded CDI ignition module, updated valves, and stainless-steel SSI heat exchangers for a claimed output of 242 HP. The rear wheels are driven by way of a 5-speed manual gearbox. Suspension modifications include stiffer torsion bars, Turbo tie rods, and adjustable front drop links. The seller adds that the brakes include new pads and upgraded stainless steel lines. Routine maintenance is said to have always been kept up to date and the last major service was completed in 2018 including new torsion bars, spring plates, throttle linkage, shifter adjustments, wheel balancing, and alignment.
This sale will include the original toolkit, extra brake pads, new Koni rear shock absorbers, additional lights and lenses, spare transmission oil, and a clean title.

@Al_Cantara do not have the original bill of sale listing factory options, the car came with factory air, power windows rear window defroster, I got the right hand mirror out of England
Don, Do you have the window sticker or bill of sale listing the factory options?
Was the exterior/passenger side door mirror a factory installed item?
@TheTorch can’t get under the car I believe the paint code is in the photos
Would you mind posting a photo of the transmission serial number, the paint code plate in the driver's door, and the MFI pump please?
Bid in the amount of $60,250
@Al_Cantara it was dyno tested and has 242 at rear wheels
@Al_Cantara the engine at best maybe has 50 to 60 hours on it not a problem with leak down test
With a 35-40 year old engine build, leak down numbers would certainly be reassuring.
@TheTorch the engine has all the original stuff except for the case and pistons, the transmission and all running gear is original except that the suspension is modified
Looks well loved over the years. It seems like there are a number of details you could add:
1. Does it have the 2.7s CIS instead of the original MFI fuel system?
2. Looks like a 901 transmission instead of the 915. Is this a replacement transmission?
3. I see a number of custom touches (nice looking custom tach, grease fitting on the torsion cover, some kind of clamp on the torsion tube), etc that you could elaborate on if you are able.
Thanks and give my regards to Mt. Greylock where I used to work for the AMC back in the day.
@d56Valenti as an instructor with PCA I was at many tracks on the east coast, lime rock did min laps, the Glen , also instructed for the Audi club
@Al_Cantara this car has no rust, not even in the battery box, never ever driven in bad weather
So it sounds like a ‘74-‘77 2.7L was the base for the replacement engine.
Does the car have any visible rust?
A friend who who worked at a Porsche dealership on the East Coast when these cars were new commented that these early 911 cars showed rust when just a few years old.
@Al_Cantara mostly as an instructor for pca club events , two vintage races,
Don,
Your 911S is certainly an interesting car with a neat ownership history. It's certainly memorable and I knew I had seen photos of it, always on the track.
Would you share with us how many years you tracked it and the type of track events it was driven in?

Thanks.

@jenelson I believe it will but not sure, it does in my state because of its age
@longballa the dash is perfect, the engine was rebuilt in the late 80s every thing was blue printed dyno 242 hp
@longballa because of the year I believe you’re ok
@Frankobra front 7inch rear 8 inch all 16 inch
@d56Valenti didn’t see any thing on the floor
@Wmkevin7 the heat is good the air may need to be charged
Bid in the amount of $50,000
@NLE don’t no nothing on floor
@Frankobra fronts are 7 by 16 rear are 8 by 16
The underside of the engine is wet with oil seeping. Do you know where the leak is coming from?
@d56Valenti Can you please post pictures of the front suspension pan from underneath. Also is this a 2.7 L from a 74 to 77? Or a different type of build?
@Wmkevin7 heat is good air is fair will need to be charged
can you post some more pictures of the undercarriage, suspension, brakes? thanks
My wife is asking does the air and heat work well…..?
Don,
51 years!!! Incredible, can’t be too many of these with this ownership history left. Those seats are so cool looking.
Love the Carello’s, any chance you could post a photo or two without the covers? Not in the race, just interested.
As others have already documented. I bought a ‘73 in 2019 and imported it into the Republic of California from out of state. No issue with smog.
Absolutely love this car -- a beautiful S that you can actually drive! Do you have engine number to determine the beginnings of the 2.7?
what are the wheel and tire sizes?
Appears that the wind storm which knocked me off line has allowed 3 posts with the same subject material. Apologies but now everyone knows that 1975 is the cut-off! lol

This is an amazing 911! I hope whoever ends up with it preserves it as good as the current owner.
@jenelson no way it will pass smog it has no cats at all. Unless Ca has a waiver for old cars that came without emissions like this
Never a fan of fitting flares fenders to early 911’s. But this is sublime!
It's a 72 so will be smog exempt in Cali.
@jenelson no sure on cali emissions. Sorry
Don, so the original engine is not in the car, right? Do you still have it? Do you know what the 2.7 engine case started as? Like what year the case is from? The SN# on it will tell us. Is the dash original to the car and un cracked? Nice 72S!
Hello I am falling in love with your 911, any idea if it would have any issues passing "smog" out here is CA?

She’s a beauty Don, I’ll be watching closely.
Hi, my name is Don Valenti. I have been a Porsche enthusiast since I was stationed in Aviano, Italy in 1957, where I purchased my first Porsche, a 1962 356 Super 90.
I’ve had a SCCA License since 1962 and raced in E Production Class in a Porsche 914.
I’m excited to sell my most precious 911S to someone who will love this car as much as I have, and fully understands that a car like this needs to be pampered and driven.
Please contact me with any questions. I love to talk about my number one passion, Porsches!
Don
