The 1972 model year saw the introduction of an updated Porsche 911 equipped with a larger 2.4-liter flat-six engine, and was the only year in which the 911 featured a unique "Olklappe” external oil filler. The 911E was offered as the mid-range model equipped with Bosch mechanical fuel injection and represents the least common version of the car. This 1972 example is one of 1,124 Porsche 911E Coupes produced for the model year and was factory-finished in the rare color of Gulf Blue over Black leatherette upholstery. It was specified with equipment for the U.S. market and equipped with an optional limited-slip differential, Fuchs light alloy wheels, tinted glass, and the Comfort Equipment package. It benefits from a major refurbishment completed between 2023 and 2024 including new paint, a rebuilt transmission, a resealed engine, an MFI tune-up, and much more. This rare and well-appointed 911E Coupe is now being offered for auction out of Florida.
This 911E Coupe was factory-finished in Gulf Blue (328), a historic Porsche color inspired by the iconic Porsche 917 livery and made legendary by the Steve McQueen movie "Le Mans." It features an external oil filler lid mounted behind the passenger door on the rear quarter panel known as an "Olklappe” which is exclusive to the 1972 model year. The lower rocker moldings have been removed and a 911S-style front spoiler is equipped. Other features include chrome headlight bezels, a chrome driver’s side mirror, a fender-mounted antenna, and 15” Fuchs light alloy wheels dressed in new tires. The seller indicates the car underwent a glass-out repaint in its original color during the recent refurbishment, and it had been refinished in silver at some point under prior ownership. The exterior also underwent paint correction and ceramic coating. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The Black leatherette (11) interior features the optional Comfort Equipment package which adds aluminum door sill trim, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, velour carpeting, and instrument dials from the 911S. Other equipment includes front bucket seats with headrests and three-point seatbelts, folding rear seatbacks, pop-out window vents, a heater, a locking glovebox, and a Blaupunkt radio. The seller indicates the leather steering wheel needs to be restored and the carpeting shows signs of wear. All gauges and accessories are said to be fully functional.
Equipped with Bosch mechanical fuel injection (MFI), the 2.4-liter flat-six engine delivers up to 165 HP and 151 lb.-ft of torque to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Over $23k was invested in maintenance over the last year including a resealed engine, a rebuilt transmission, a new clutch, starter, bushings, hoses, a new 11-blade fan, heat exchangers, and more. The seller adds that the engine was inspected with a borescope and subject to a leak-down test which determined an engine rebuild was unnecessary.
This sale will include a spare tire and a clean title.

@Upshift4 The tire size front and rear is 195/65/15, not 165.
Doing a quick measure with the wheels on the car, we believe the rim width is 6 inches
Are the wheels 6x15 ? or 5.5x15? they look very narrow. a 165 tire is very small for this car.

@HemiSam The transmission was rebuilt.
The engine was not rebuilt, basically because after a thorough inspection, it was determined that a rebuild was unnecessary.
The shop did a compression test, a leak-down test, and boroscope inspection, in order to arrive to that conclusion.
The shop who did the work is reachable and their contact information is on the invoices if you want to give them a call before the action ends, the name of the owner is John Reaves (well known guy in the Porsche community)
Looks like work on the transmission was significant, but not much to the motor unless I'm missing it.
Shame there's not more detail on the body work done ahead of the silver to blue repaint. It's a nice color IMHO.
@MiamiGarageClassics thanks
@Upshift4 Hello, for better detail, please check pictures numbers 161 to 164.
Those pictures are the service records that show what was done exactly on the engine and all the parts used.
You also have a summary of all the records on picture number 189.
Please let us know if you have any questions after checking those files
@MiamiGarageClassics new engine seals? did you do valves?
what is an engine reseal? gaskets?
Good morning all, please note we just uploaded three pictures (193, 194 and 195) showing the small rust bubbles that were addressed before painting.

@Upshift4 Hello, these are the leak-down test results informed by the previous owner along with his comments:
Cylinder 1: 8% - Cylinder 2: 5% - Cylinder 3: 11% - Cylinder 4: 3% - Cylinder 5: 5% - Cylinder 6: 8%
About cylinder 3, the shop reported that the number should get better with use as the new engine seals settle in. The car was parked for some years and a cylinder 3 was most likely the one left open.
Can you please share the compression and leak down numbers?
@Punjabi408 Good morning, when we received the car in silver, we found some minor rust bubbling on the passenger-side rocker panel, the driver's side headlight, and the driver's side A-pillar. The bubbling was minor in all three spots and was only superficial. While the body was not completely stripped to bare metal, the paint shop addressed and repaired these issues and prepared the car for a professional full paint job.
Bid in the amount of $40,000
Do you have any information if any of the rust areas have been repaired from when the car was previously for sale.
@jovanybg Unfortunately, the original rocker moldings are no longer present. However, replacement parts are readily available on the market if the buyer wishes to restore the car to its original look.
@twickes40 Hello, please check that undercarriage pictures has been uploaded
There is no history of accidents on the car to our knowledge, and no signs of accidents when inspecting the body

Beautiful color! Wonderful and simple cars then...so much enjoyment. I made a similar change to my '69 S back around 1985. It had been repainted from its original Gold to Silver by the po. When it needed it, I let the painter choose the color. Purists can stop reading here because the painter John Vanderheyden chose a 1984 Ford Truck Blue, that was very much like this, but even lighter. It looked like white car reflecting a bright blue sky. Great car wonderful color. Miss it a lot. Your car looks great all around! GLWTA!
Can the lower rocker moldings be traced back, or any chance they will accompany the car? Imho, the car will look better once they are fitted!
Bid in the amount of $30,000
@MiamiGarageClassics such a great color. Do you have any undercarriage photos? Additionally, do you know if the car was in any accidents?

@garyklein911 Hello!
No work was done on the suspension, brakes, or bushings during our ownership. The records do not show those works either. We did a test drive of the car and did not feel the car needed suspension or brake work.
The only works done to the engine are the ones described here, we are adding a summary of the service records available to better describe this.
About the mileage, the car has a 6-digit odometer and is showing 63k (not 163k).
We have no information about the old blue-to-silver paintwork, unfortunately.
Inside carpets do not need replacement in our opinion, but they are not brand new carpets and are not perfect.
Seats and general interior conditions are very good, not perfect or concourse condition, but very good in general.
Please let us know if you have any questions after checking the pictures in detail
@Pcars Good morning, we just uploaded a couple of pictures of the paint process.
The body was not stripped to bare metal for the color change from silver to the factory Gulf Blue color.
We have no information about the work done when the car was painted silver.

Any work done on suspension, bushings, brakes/calipers rebuilds? Pictures of underside and suspension and other drivetrain would be helpful. Sounds like engine never worked on other than reseal? 63,000 or 163,000 miles? ( or more). Please comment on blue to silver and what was done when painting it Gulf Blue again? How much wear on inside carpet? Need replacement? Seats and other general interior conditions? I don’t have access tonight to large screen views of the pictures. Thanks
Paint: Was the car steiped to bare metal, was the whole car painted in silver when it was
Color changed if so Was this also corrected to bare metal?
Thanks
