This rare “Oelklappe” 1972 Porsche 911T Coupe was originally sold in Los Angeles and was acquired by the seller from its third owner of 33 years in October 2023. It has since undergone a comprehensive custom restoration utilizing approximately $220k in parts and 1,600 hours of painstaking labor. The car has been refinished in its original Signal Yellow color over a customized leather interior and showcases a newly rebuilt 2.7-liter flat-six with a custom crankshaft, Mahle RS pistons, modified “S” cams, 76mm PMO carburetors, Wevo engine mounts, and a Dansk sport muffler. This 911 also features an overhauled 5-speed 915 manual transmission, a J West shifter, custom two-piece 15” wheels, a carbon fiber mini-ducktail rear spoiler, LED lighting, new Bilstein dampers, Rebel Racing adjustable spring plates, Elephant Racing rear suspension bushings, upgraded Porsche brake calipers, Classic Touring bucket seats, a MOMO three-spoke steering wheel, aluminum Rennline accessories, and much more. An enthusiast's passion project built with no expense spared, this 911T restomod is now being offered for auction out of Texas.
Unique to the 1972 model year, this 911T features a rare “Oelklappe” external oil cap on the right rear quarter. The car was disassembled and refinished in its original Signal Yellow paint color in November 2023. All the brightwork around the wheel openings was removed, and the holes were welded closed. The lower body trim was also removed, and the rubber bumper trim was deleted. The undercarriage was thoroughly detailed with dry ice blasting, and the windshield and rubber seals were replaced. An original steel 911S front bumper was sourced, and a custom carbon fiber mini ducktail rear spoiler was added to the steel decklid. Other modifications include custom door handles, custom Achtung Kraft side mirrors, LED headlamps by 9Haus, LED taillights and turn signals by 911 Illumination, custom Porsche logo side stripes, and dual center-mounted tailpipes. The car rides on custom-made 15”x7” two-piece Outlaw wheels with titanium lug nuts and Pirelli P4 Persist AS Plus 195/65/15 tires. The original 15”x6” Fuchs wheels have been restored and are also included in the sale.
The cabin was stripped bare and completely redone with a new headliner, dashboard, custom leather door panels, carpeting, and leather-covered Classic Touring bucket seats. Leather upholstery was also added to the rear seats and rear deck shelf. Accessories include Planted seat bases and sliders, a new MOMO three-spoke steering wheel, a custom yellow tachometer dial, aluminum Rennline pedals and track mats, aluminum Rennline dashboard knobs, a BuiltByBasil shift knob, a J West shifter, and a custom Bluetooth audio system mounted below the passenger seat. The tachometer and speedometer were refurbished by Specialty Gauges, and the clock and auxiliary gauges were done by North Hollywood Speedometer. The seller notes the rear defroster is not connected, and the wiring and switch remain in place for the deleted front fog lights.
The replacement 1974 Porsche 91 2.7-liter flat-six was completely rebuilt by Ed Mayo, “The Longhood Guru”, in 2025. The magnesium case was split, vapor-blasted, and Cerakote-finished. The heads were entirely reworked by Pauter Machine, and additional machine work was done on the case by Soren Anderson, who checked for tolerances, installed case savers, and line-bored the case. The crankshaft was reconditioned by Custom Crankshaft, including magnaflux treatment, re-nitriding, and micro-polishing. The engine was assembled with new Mahle flat top RS style pistons and 8.9:1 cylinders, Supertec head studs and rocker arms, new modified "S" cams, all new bearings, an upgraded oil pump, 76mm PMO 40 carburetors, a port-matched PMO intake, a CFS fender-mounted oil cooler, Elephant racing finned oil lines, Cerakoted billet Turbo valve covers, Wevo engine mounts, and a Dansk sport muffler and heat exchangers. The muffler, fan, fan shroud, and strap are also Cerakoted. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 1974 Porsche 5-speed 915 manual transaxle that was rebuilt at Mayo Performance. It features a new clutch, flywheel, synchros, and a Numeric shift rod coupler. The braking system includes new Porsche “S” front and “M” rear brake calipers, a new reservoir and lines, coated Zimmerman performance rotors, and new brake pads. The suspension has been overhauled with new 911S Bilstein front struts, Bilstein HD rear shocks, adjustable Tarett Engineering lightweight hollow sway bars, Rebel Racing adjustable spring plates and RSR front bushings, Elephant Racing rear bushings, and a Rennline strut tower brace.
This sale will include owner’s manuals, a window sticker, a toolkit, a spare tire, the original 15” Fuchs wheels, a battery trickle charger, and a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “I do this work as a hobby and consider myself an early 911 enthusiast. I love these cars. I enjoy talking to other owners and discussing what works to make these early cars better. I can't think of anything on this car that wasn't touched. The electrical (fuse box specifically) is fantastic. The steering is responsive. The engine just pulls and has that perfect 911 sound. It would take someone with the right connections, a year or more, to build the engine in this car. The fact that Ed Mayo would offer to assemble the engine was just the icing on the cake as far as I am concerned.”

Kudos to the seller/constructor, you don't have to be Singer to make someone's dreams come true... GLWTS
If I could have saved the original paint I would have. It was very thin in lots of places. There were over 50 dents that needed attention. The dents were handled by a expert in paint less dent removal. With the glass out, bumpers removed, doors, decklid and hood removed there was zero rust found. I attribute that to it's life in California and Texas. The car was sanded smooth and in some areas that was bare metal. We primed the car and sanded again.
Can you comment on or have pictures of the paintwork? Was it taken down to bare metal? Was there ever rust that needed to be addressed?
I want to personally thank everyone who have contributed their insight this past week. I also want the bidders to know how much I appreciate your interest in this fantastic car.

Man oh man… this car is just perfect. I have admired it at several car meets. Every single nut and bolt has been removed and polished if not replaced with something better. The stance, the color, the interior, the melodies this flat six belts out!! Ooooff! Upset that I just purchased a car, and this one is getting away..
whoever gets this one, will have a great one 💪🏽
GLWA…
I’ve seen this car in person multiple times. The work and beauty of this car is second to none, inside and out! This car sitting next to our buddy’s Singer pulled just as much attention. No detail was spared.
GLWA!
Ed Mayo has forgotten more than most know. Plus, he's a really down to earth good guy too.
"Icing on the cake" is an understatement.
GLWA.
Just superb work …. Singer level IMHO.
Wow thank you Charlie. What a fantastic gentleman and avid Porsche guy. To say the folks at Charlies Chop Shop are hard working is an understatement. The products I used on the paint, for this project, all came from Charlie's Endless Shine line of products.
Wow, what a beauty, Steve!
I had the pleasure of purchasing Steve’s previous build on Pcar, and I can’t say enough great things about the quality of his work and the overall experience. Steve truly cuts no corners, everything was done with precision and care. I even flew down to Texas to meet him in person, and what a gentleman he is! Incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about his work.
When I visited, I had a chance to see this car while the engine was being rebuilt, and let me tell you the interior and paintwork looked absolutely stunning in person. Whoever ends up with this one is in for a real treat! Good luck with the sale!!

@Muvovr @Muvovr. Thanks for the excellent response. Its the aircraft inspector coming out in me. These magnesium shrouds and fans have a bit of history, so it just caught my eye. Sorry about that.
@palien just went out to look at this. It’s not a crack. Looks to be a little excess material in the casting at that location the cerakote coating didn’t flow over that imperfection. I’ve opened that engine lid hundreds of times and never caught that.
I am happy to provide another fan shroud to go along with the sale. I don’t feel this will be an issue.
Beautiful car. Top notch.
Please dont shoot the messenger but photo 81 is the alloy fan shroud cracked?
@AZCollector I have a binder shown in the photo gallery that contains everything I did to the car. I am currently available to discuss whatever you might like. You can send me a message here. I'll put the car on the lift tomorrow and snap a few pictures underneath for the gallery.
Underside Pictures please..
Have copies of the receipts for the build you can post? Says $220K invested. Would like to see what that entails.

E-gads! This is everything I would want in a long hood air-cooled 911- and in the best color possible!
My 1973 1/2 911T is all original and pure as the driven snow. and I love it. BUT, it drives like a 52 year old car. With all the upgrades and goodies and special attention given this 1972 resto-mod 911 the driving experience will be 100% improved. This is the very best of an early long hood beauty with modern or updated componentry. Clearly, this is everything one could do to improve an early 911 to modern driving and performance standards. The really great news for the successful bidder is that this can be had for only money! To make a car like this takes countless hours finding parts, patiently updating items, carefully building and assembling parts and working to a finished product. And don't forget the thousands of decisions made along the way to properly enhance Ferry Porsche's vision while making everything properly work together. This example is all you will ever need in your garage. I want. GLWTA !!
@sbcarguy Thank you. Yes, I'll agree with that 100%.
@Muvovr
Great Car!
However as many of us know who have built cars...
That may or may not have any effect on actual value later :)
Best of luck with your sale.
Bid in the amount of $50,000
@Banda thank you. Having just gone through the process and wanting the best possible parts, the cost was considerably more. It could be done in that range if you got a really good deal on a used engine and transmission and they needed nothing.
Nice car! Probably couldn't build it for less than 130-150k and then have to wait a couple of years to have it finished. Good luck
Bid in the amount of $45,000
love the plate!! GLWA
I saw this car last weekend at event. This car is stunning. A lot attention to detail. I have seen several of the sellers cars. You will not be disappointed.
i like the way you close the door using the window frame! I always try to do the same. s
@vonmec custom made to my specifications 15 x 7 (offset custom).
Two piece wheels (hidden fasteners).
Described as “custom two part wheels” - what size and brand are they?
@Muvovr I never figured out how to send a PM on this website, but I found a workaround and you should be getting something from me soon if not immediately. s
This car is a personal favorite of many people in the DFW area who have seen it. I only wish I had the space - and an agreeable wife - to bid. This one is a dream 911 for sure and deserves every dollar it brings.
I owned this car prior to Steve, and I own Mayo Performance who did a lot of the work on this car. This is one of the nicest cars I’ve seen and needs absolutely nothing except to be driven and enjoyed. Bid with confidence, Steve is a stand up guy and spared no expense in building this car.
scheherazade, you should be able to click on the envelope in the upper right corner to navigate to that. It says "My Market" next to it.
For the life of me, I can't figure out how to send a private email. Help! s
I had the opportunity to see this car, a couple weeks ago, at a Porsche car gathering. WOW. It really draws you in and the little details are everywhere. Fantastic.
This resto is so cool and really well done. Good luck!
@scheherazade Send me your email and i will forward a under carriage video I shot Sunday or come see the car.
I do have a lift, The car is on the lift right now and you can walk underneath.
are there undercarriage pix? if i come to Arlington, do you have a lift so I can see the bottom? thanx. s
@scheherazade While the quality of these exterior mirrors are worlds better than the stock 911 mirrors of this era, don't think for a second they are equal to a modern car. I've owned many classic 911's and have had the mirrors mounted in various locations. I think for an early 911 these are some of the best available mirrors on the market. Both for aesthetics and visibility.
Many times on older cars, the passenger mirror can either be symmetrical and not work properly or be good for visibility but be asymmetrical. What's the situation with this car? thanx steve

@scheherazade direct message me thru PCar Market. If I can be of further assistance.
never mind, AGAIN... it would be good if I would read first. And yes, I did get a D in seventh grade English. S
is there a way to visit by phone? what is the box behind the passenger seat? stereo? thanx for handling my drivel with aplomb. s
@scheherazade No worries. It is easy to miss things. The Compression Ratio on this motor is 9 to 1.
ah ooops...i missed the ext oil cooler in the description. C/R= compression ratio...sorry to be so cryptic.
I admit, I rarely look on Pcar, so I wasn't used to looking at the pictures on the right hand side of the page. My bad X2. s
@scheherazade What would you like a picture of? I'll see if I have one available. External cooler yes. Oil console modification to accommodate, yes. CSF front cooler with elephant finned lines. (C/R ?) Please help me with what you are referring to. Yes it runs on pump gas.. Decals are removable.
oh yeah, and one more thing....external oil cooler? thanx s
Are there more pictures?? What is the C/R? Does it run on pump gas? Are the decals removable? thanx.
A beautiful build!
@Scheinrs No A/C.
Does it have AC?

I’ve known the owner for several years and have seen multiple builds of his. Everything he touches turns to gold. His attention to detail and execution are flawless.
I’ve personally seen this car up close and it’s very well done. Even sitting next to my Singer, it drew all of the attention about last show.
Hello PCar Market,
I am the owner of this fantastic car. I am here to answer your questions in a timely fashion.
Thank you to all the interested bidders.
