This 1972 example underwent a custom Carrera RS-style transformation including a full lightweight interior, RS-spec brakes, steel fender flares, a classic Ducktail rear spoiler, and a powerful 3.6L flat-six engine sourced from a Porsche 993. Finished in White, this RS Tribute also features a 5-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. After the build was completed in Los Angeles, the car spent time in Japan before being imported back to the U.S. when the seller acquired it in August 2020. Delivering a truly visceral air-cooled driving experience, this custom 911 was previously listed on PCARMARKET and is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
This 911 was refinished in White after being fitted with steel fender flares, fiberglass RS-style front and rear bumpers, and a fiberglass Ducktail rear spoiler. Black Carrera RS graphics were also applied throughout the exterior. This 911 rides on 16” polished Fuchs wheels dressed in Toyo Extensa HP II tires. The seller notes a stress crack on the spoiler where the rear decklid meets the driver-side quarter panel. Additional images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, the cabin has been customized with lightweight RS-style door panels, sport bucket seats with houndstooth cloth centers, and an Alcantara-wrapped MOMO three-spoke steering wheel. The dashboard has been re-covered and both the air conditioning and radio have been removed along with the rear seats for weight savings.
This 911 has been fitted with an air-cooled 3.6-liter flat-six engine sourced from a 1995 Porsche 993 Carrera. The engine is equipped with an upgraded intake and exhaust as well as an updated factory wiring harness and is paired with a recently rebuilt 5-speed 915 manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The seller adds that an engine performance chip and a max flow air filter were installed. The wheel hubs have been rebuilt and upgraded Carrera RS brakes have been installed along with new brake lines and a big bore master cylinder. New rear Bilstein Sport shocks and a Racing Dynamics front strut brace have also been equipped. The seller reports that the engine bears approximately 13k miles and was removed from a 993 during the late 1990s. The transmission was reportedly rebuilt within the last 4k miles. The seller also states the car has not been completely set up and the hood light is not connected, although there are no major outstanding issues.
The sale will include a clean title.

What happened to the external oil filler on the right rear quarter? 1972 should have one of those.
@HemiSam The car is complete . I Just did upgraded factory wiring harness for engine , new clutch , all new brake system complete with 73 RS front s calipers, rear shocks , wheels ,tires , seats . I would change front shocks and that’s it for performance . Little touch up on paint it’s good though done 20 years ago ! Shows well though little flaws in paint over the years only driven 2 k miles. Doug . I know these cars well this is a good solid car not a pieced together rust bucket that most cars today started as .
Bid in the amount of $60,000
What does the car is not complete mean? Can you provide details of what still needs to be finalized on this vehicle?
@Nikojo Yes. Doug
Is this normal intake from 993?
@lbpa18 I’ve done a lot of work on this car . I built it to preform and it is a nice sold car . Sometimes the cars that look perfect are junk when you dig in . This is a great car . I just didn’t have time to try and hide any flaw .
Bid in the amount of $25,000
Why would anyone sell something so close to being finished, and with such a nice result?!
@twickes40 Yes , It’s a very solid 911 ! Needs a little clean up . Took real close photos not trying to hide anything . Good luck
Nice low mileage engine. Any documentation to back it up? It's too bad there's white overspray all over the seals, suspension components, and valve covers. Makes me wonder about the attention to detail, or lack thereof.
I found it. Jan 2022 high bid $99K
When was it previously listed on Pcar and what was high bid? Other auction sites provide this information. Thank You
This is a 993 engine 11k orig mile
Can the experts weigh in and give the differences here from the 964 3.6 engine and the 993 3.6 engine?. I can’t tell which one this is. Seller can we get a shot of the engine number stamping?
Bid in the amount of $20,000
