Available for auction is this 1972 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia finished in red over a tan and black interior. Styled in Italy by Carrozzeria Ghia with bodywork hand-built in Germany by Karmann, the Karmann Ghia is an air-cooled rear-engine sports car derived from Volkswagen’s Beetle. This example is said to have been garage kept for the past decade while being seldom driven and has undergone a host of services performed by the seller. One of the most iconic automotive designs of its era, this Karmann Ghia is now being offered for auction by its seller out of California.
This Karmann Ghia was refinished in its current shade of red upon the seller's acquisition. In regards to styling for the 1972 model year, the Karmann Ghia was updated with larger taillights and a new squared-section rear bumper design. This example rides on factory 15” slotted wheels featuring chrome hubcaps dressed in Firestone F560 tires. Detailed images are provided in the gallery. The seller notes that the data plate has been removed or has faded away and is unsure of the car's original color as the door jambs show traces of different paint colors. It is also suggested that the buyer replaces the rubber seals along the front window, side wing, and trunk.
Inside, the cabin has been reupholstered with new tan seats and door panels, black carpeting, a black and tan dashboard, and a cream headliner. Details include a tan shift boot, roll-up windows, centralized Karmann Ghia badging on the dash, and a four-spoke steering wheel. The seller notes that a brake light on the left side of the dash illuminates but turns off when the brake is applied. Apart from the clock, the seller reports all other gauges and accessories are working properly.
Power comes from a rear-mounted 1600cc flat-four air-cooled engine paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller reports the engine and transmission to be original to the car, and maintenance performed since their acquisition included a new fuel filter, fuel sending unit, and fuel lines, a new brake booster, an oil change, a valve adjustment, and a new battery.
This sale will include a clean title, toolkit, spare tire, owner’s manuals, and some documentation.
The seller would like you to know: "Thank you for viewing our Karmann Ghia. We have owned the vehicle for about twelve years and have slowly been building it back to the present car you see today. We have come to a point in the build that we are happy with and love driving it and watching heads turn and “thumbs up,” Things we’d like to disclose are that the new owner would want to get new front window rubber, side wings rubber, and trunk rubber. The vehicle starts right up and hums down the road!"

Bid in the amount of $7,000
@kenburge ..I posted a pic of the only data plate I could find…I have spoke with a few people and they have said that sometimes yellow was used as a primer..due to the fact that there is red (of different shades due to age) in places that aren’t normally looked at,this could be a possibility as to the yellow …

@kenburge good morning!..as stated above, when we got the car is was red but not the paint job we put on it..I have found a data plate (I think) in the the trunk area but I’ve looked up every number on there and nothing I could find was related to paint..so I’m really not sure.I will take a picture of that plate and post it here so maybe you can find something I could not..I will tell you that all the places where you’d think youd see it a different color than red(inside fenders, engine bay, trunk, etc, are all red….thanks !
Was the car yellow at one time? I see yellow in the door jams
