Up for auction is this 1972 BMW 2002 finished in Sahara over a brown vinyl interior. Following car importer Max Hoffman's request for a sporting version of BMW's 02-Series to be sold in the United States, the 2002 was developed featuring a 2.0L version of the M10 inline-four engine. This 1972 example was sold new in California and remained with its original owner while spending time in Colorado and Cincinnati where it was acquired by the seller in 2018. Having since been serviced with a new head gasket, engine seals, valve guides, a new exhaust, and upgraded Weber carburetor, this BMW 2002 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Ohio accompanied by the original window sticker and sales documents.
This 2002 was factory finished in the nonmetallic shade of Sahara (006) and features round taillights, chrome front and rear bumpers with overriders, stainless-steel beltline trim, pop-out rear windows, a driver’s side door mirror, and a chrome fuel filler cap. The front bumper, driver’s side fender, and engine bay are said to have been previously refinished with additional touch-ups performed on the hood, driver’s door, and trunk lid. The seller also reports the undercarriage is free of rust, retaining some of the original protective coatings from the factory. Detailed images are provided in the gallery including photos of the undercarriage. The original 13” steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps with BMW emblems and are mounted with new Kelly Edge all-season tires.
The interior of this 2002 features bucket seats trimmed in brown vinyl with textured inserts along with matching door panels and carpeting. The seller describes the interior to remain in good condition, noting some wear to the carpets and a few cracks on the dashboard. The original headliner is said to be well-preserved. Equipment includes manual roll-up windows, a Pioneer cassette stereo, electric two-speed windshield wipers, seatbelts, a heater, a rear window defroster, and an optional tachometer in place of the analog clock.
The 2002 is powered by a 2.0L M10 inline four-cylinder engine that produced up to 125 HP and 127 lb.-ft of torque when new. The rear wheels are driven by a 4-speed manual transmission. The engine was recently serviced including a new head gasket, seals, valve guides, and a valve adjustment. Other new parts installed during the current ownership include a Weber carburetor, a new OEM exhaust system, KYB shocks, ball joints, tie rods, shifter bushings, door checks, driveshaft center support bearing, water pump, and thermostat. The original Solex carburetor is said to accompany the sale as well.
This sale will include the original window sticker and sales documents as well as a clean title. One of the most iconic vehicles ever produced by BMW, this 2002 offers a great opportunity to own an increasingly sought-after European classic.

Thank you. Yes extremely clean an original. A few beauty marks here and there but these old cars are only original once! Makes no sense to paint an entire car when you can have beautiful, authentic patina.
very clean, highly original, If I had the room Id be taking this home!.. GLWS
