A hatchback developed from the 02-Series body, the BMW Touring was produced between 1971 and 1974 and was the car to feature BMW’s “Touring” designation. This 1972 BMW 1600 Touring is finished in Sahara over a tan interior with beige cloth seat centers. It features a 1.6-liter inline-four engine, a 4-speed manual transmission, chrome bumpers and trim, 13” wheels, pop-out rear side windows, a heater, and a black three-spoke steering wheel. The car was imported from the Netherlands before the seller’s acquisition about two years ago and is now being offered for auction out of New Jersey.
The 02-Series Touring was designed by Giovanni Michelotti and was never officially sold in the U.S. market. Finished in Sahara paint, this 1972 example is equipped with chrome trim and bumpers, a driver’s side mirror, pop-out rear side windows, a polished external fuel cap, and 13” wheels with chrome BMW-branded hubcaps. The car rides on 165/80 RX Motion Road X tires from 2021. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin features tan vinyl upholstery on the seats and door panels with beige cloth seat centers and carpeting. Accessories include a black three-spoke steering wheel, manual window cranks, a heater, carpet floor mats, and analog VDO instrumentation.
A carbureted 1.6-liter inline-four engine delivers power to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission. The seller indicates the battery has been replaced and an oil service was performed during their ownership.
This sale will include a clean title.
The seller would like you to know: “This 1972 BMW 1600 hatchback is a low-mileage, all-original example that stands out for its exceptional cleanliness and charm. It starts up effortlessly and delivers an engaging, fun driving experience that captures the spirit of classic BMW engineering. This is a rare opportunity to own a beautifully preserved piece of automotive history that’s ready to be enjoyed.”

@FORMULAONE This vehicle will come with a US (New Jersey) Title. Since we are a dealer there is no current registration as we will register it and charge appropriate taxes for the highest bidder. No compression test was performed as the engine runs flawlessly and that wasn't deemed necessary.
@Alvir21852 Parts can be found in the United States, we ate GasWerks Garage can assist with any maintenance needs you might have after the purchase with sourcing any necessary parts. From our knowledge the odometer has not rolled over and is original to the vehicle. The engine has not been rebuilt, it is in original condition. As for owner's manual, spare tire and tool kit, I do not believe they are included. However, we will check the vehicle to double check. The car will come with a purchase agreement in the state of NJ, not the original receipt from 1972. This vehicle would pass emissions in most states. Unsure of CA as they have stringent emissions testing.
US Title as well as Current/\Valid Registration? Yes or No ??
Any COMPRESSION TEST Data?
Bid in the amount of $1,000
My question is are parts available here in the states? Has the mileage rolled over! Is there a spare tire, tools, jack, owners manual in English. Does the car come with receipt? Has the engine been rebuilt? Will it pad emissions here in the states?
What a marvelous time for BMW. Teutonic precision with the Italian flair of an Alfa Romeo. The beginning of the "sewing machine" signature sound track.
