The Volkswagen Westfalia is an iconic camper celebrated for its distinctive design and versatility. It combines the practicality of a van with the comforts of a camper, making it a beloved choice for road trips and outdoor adventures. Powered by a 1.6-liter flat-four paired with a 4-speed manual, this 1971 example has been refinished in Chianti Red over tan upholstery. This iconic bus is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Maryland.
This “Bay Window” camper showcases classic VW styling with round headlights, large windows, and a signature pop-top roof. It was stripped and professionally refinished in its reported original shade of Chianti Red (L31H) approximately 4 years ago. White contrasts can be found along the roof, bumpers, front grille, Volkswagen emblem, and 15” wheels with polished VW-branded hubcaps. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
The cabin presents tan leatherette upholstery spanning the seats and door panels with a matching pop-up roof. The seller adds that new seat cushions and foam were fitted, along with a Kenwood stereo and speakers. Amenities include a kitchenette and storage compartments. Chianti Red surrounds and wooden-look vinyl panels complete the cabin. All gauges, electronics, and accessories are confirmed to be in proper working order.
Power comes from a rear-mounted air-cooled 1.6-liter flat-four engine, which delivers a factory-rated 47 HP to the rear wheels through a 4-speed transmission. The seller states the engine and transmission were rebuilt, and a new clutch was fitted. Additionally, a recent 120-point inspection and fresh service are said to have been performed.
This sale will include a clean title.

@Rlogan working on getting that posted before the auction ends
As it has “ been well maintained and serviced regularly…” receipts for servicing and maintenance would be appreciated.
Can you please upload the inspection report?
@dwatts thank you for your comment! We have gone through the vehicle and there is no rust. The VW was restored and is a solid example that runs and drives great
Looks great!
What about rust in the fenders, floorboard and exhaust?

@91179viz Thank you for you're questions. The spare tire is located in a pocket in the rear of the vehicle. We took it out to detail the car. The brakes have been gone through and we did new pads. The suspension is in good order and needs nothing as the shocks/bushings/etc have been replaced within the last 5 years. This bus did not have a front mount bracket but I believe there are many places that will sell the kit.
Where is spare tire located? How about brakes/ suspension/other mechanicals? Do you have bracket for front mounted spare? Nice vehicle.
