Available for auction is an original painting by Karen Barrow being offered by the HW Gallery featuring the stunning 1971 Porsche 917K. This original piece is composed of mixed media on canvas over a wood frame and measures 48” x 48”. Chassis 917-019 displayed in the painting raced as a member of the Martini Racing Team, the new name Louise Piëch gave her organization following sponsorship from Martini & Rossi. The Piëch team took Le Mans, the winning car driven by Helmut Marko and Gijs van Lennep and sporting numerous experimental features including a magnesium tube frame.
Artist Karen Barrow, based in Naples Florida, often finds the Revs Institute and Collier’s collection of rare automobiles the perfect muse for her paintings. Wandering through the collection, she follows her instinct as to what to photograph and how to capture the story of the rolling sculptures in each painting. Inspired by Robert Rauschenberg, who declared “The artist’s job is to be a witness to his time in history”, Barrow documents automotive history, whether it is of personal or of international importance. This painting was first in a series of eight, historically important, Porsche paintings, 48” x 48” each by Karen Barrow.
