Introduced at the 1968 Geneva Motor Show, the Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3 was the brand’s ultimate full-sized luxury performance sedan and one of the fastest four-door cars of its time. Combining the powerful 6.3-liter M100 V8 engine from the massive 600-series limousine with the chassis of the flagship W109 300SEL luxury car, it featured a 4-speed automatic transmission, a limited-slip differential, air suspension, power steering, power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, power windows, and a central locking system as standard equipment. This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3 is one of 6,526 examples produced between 1968 and 1972. Finished in Tunis Beige Metallic over a black leather interior, it was purchased from the prestigious Hatch & Sons dealership of Sudbury, Massachusetts, in 1990, and has been driven sparingly as part of a Boston celebrity’s collection ever since. The ideal project car or restoration candidate, this rare and highly collectible W109 is now being offered for auction out of New Hampshire at no reserve.

The exterior is finished in Tunis Beige Metallic (462) with chrome trim on the radiator grille, bumpers, window surrounds, and door handles. Accessories include a standing star hood ornament, quad headlamps, front driving lights, a driver’s side mirror, front vent windows, polished dual exhaust tips, and 15” Bundt alloy wheels with a full-size spare wheel mounted in the trunk. Images provided in the gallery show cosmetic imperfections and some corrosion around the exterior.

The cabin is appointed with black leather upholstery and matching carpets complemented by wood veneers on the dashboard and door panels. Accessories include a black two-spoke steering wheel with a chrome horn ring, front bucket seats with folding armrests, three-point front seatbelts, rear lap belts, power windows, a central locking system, analog VDO gauges, an under-dash air conditioning system, and an aftermarket Blaupunkt stereo. The seller reports that all gauges and accessories are working properly.

Featuring Bosch mechanical fuel injection, the 6.3-liter M100 V8 engine produces up to 300 HP and 435 lb-ft of torque. It drives the rear wheels through a 4-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. The 300SEL 6.3 comes standard with a self-leveling air suspension, power steering, and power-assisted disc brakes at each corner. The seller notes the car was recently brought out of storage and would not pass a Massachusetts state inspection, and some rust is present on the undercarriage.

This sale will include a spare tire and a registration.

The seller would like you to know: “I’m selling this car for my elderly client, a well-known Boston celebrity.  He is aware he would not enjoy the time it takes to perfect the car to the standards it deserves. It runs and drives beautifully; the only issues are cosmetic and the undercarriage (see photos).”

it states the car has been driven sparingly and all gauges and accessories are working, when was the last time the engine ran? Could you provide a video of engine running?
