With Karmann bodywork, the BMW E9 2800 CS is widely appreciated for its timeless, elegant styling and traditional BMW design cues. Benefitting from a refurbishment in 2021 consisting of a respray and a refresh of the interior and fuel system, this European-market 1971 example has been refinished in Fjord Blue over a blue leather interior. It features 14” wheels, a 4-speed manual transmission, a wooden shift knob, power windows, a heater, and more. This E9 is now being offered for auction by its seller out of Italy on dealer consignment.
Designed by Wilhelm Hofmeister, the E9's Karmann bodywork showcases front kidney grilles, quad headlights, fender vents, chrome brightwork, and signature “Hofmeister kink” C-pillars adorned with BMW roundels. This 2800 CS was reportedly stripped to bare metal and refinished in Fjord Blue in 2021 as part of its refurbishment. It rides on 14” wheels with polished hubcaps and Goodyear Radial tires. The seller notes some pitting on the chrome taillight surrounds, rear badge, and some other cosmetic imperfections. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.
Inside, this E9 is upholstered in blue leather and features a three-spoke steering wheel, front bucket seats, contoured rear seats, and a color-coordinated dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Wood trim adorns the dashboard and door panels, and amenities include a wooden shift knob, power windows, a heated rear window, and a heater.
Powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six, the 2800 CS offers an output of up to 167 HP and 174 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed manual transmission. Stopping is handled by front disc brakes and rear drums. The seller notes that the fuel tank was replaced during the refurbishment in May of 2021.
This sale will include the Italian libretto/registration, which serves as the ownership document in Italy.

@DGClassiccars Kind of a loaded question, but I’ll ask anyhow: How confident would you be in this car’s ability to make a 1000 km road trip in its present state?
Do you confirm your availability to help any buyer with the shipping process? Thank you

@glimmertrip It can absolutely be registered in Spain and I can arrange transport for you...no problem at all.
@perkinselectric Hi Mike, virtually all the cars I sell go across the pond to the US so I know this line of work well. I will arrange the shipping for you and it will cost around €2,800 to the East Coast unloaded at dock port by RORO. From what my previous clients have told the registration process is very straight forward and I'm sure one of them would be more than happy to assist you if you were to buy it. Regards, David.
What would be involved in selling and delivering to Spain (Valencia area) ? Can title and car be sold and delivered in Spain easily?
Truly spectacular, do you have a rough idea of shipping cost to Boston Ma USA, (east coast) and How difficult is it to register / Title for US. - Thanks Mike
Hello all, running slightly late into the auction! This is truly a delightful example of the splendid BMW 2800. The condition on this is stunning throughout. Worldwide shipping available and I'll arrange this for the new owner. Regards, David.
