@nhskibm- makes sense to me. Especially since the watch face says Tag Heuer.
Thanks!
@phil_c I think what he's saying is that it's an 80's timer v. 70's time as Heuer became Tag Heuer in the 80's. @Splintz I think I got that right??
@Splintz- you obviously know more about these watches than I do. As a neophyte collector, can you share with me how you determined that this watch isn’t a Heuer?
Thanks!

@pcarmarket - see thread below… can you update to 80’s and remove the ref number?
@Splintz thanks for trying to figure it out! If only the internet was around in the 80’s and not just my apple IIc
@nhskibm I am a watch collector and I am very familiar with Heuer and Tag Heuer watches. I did try to research for you to find the correct reference number but I was unable to duplicate your picture in the 86, 88, and 90 Tag Heuer catalog with no luck. I am trying to give you a heads up that the reference number is wrong and that it is not a Heuer. That way you won’t sell a misrepresented watch and get in trouble with pcarmarket and with the person who bought it.
@Splintz look, this is what’s called an honest mistake. You seem like either A. You have a bug up your butt and just want to be internet tough guy/girl/nonbinary or B. You actually have some knowledge and could be helpful helping figure this out. I’m hoping for B but your tone suggests A.
At the end of the day here’s what we have:
- A Tag Heuer timer
- it’s white and has the slide to start/stop
- it works (i sent pcar a video that’s not up yet)
- it is naked and the reference number is in question - and therefore the date as well
- you are probably right, it’s 80’s and not 70’s - maybe that matters to someone and maybe it doesn’t
Congrats on calling that all out, shoot me your venmo and I’ll shoot you $4.50 for a gourmet cookie.
But like every decent manager ever suggests - come not just with the problem but also a solution, and in case you haven’t had a good manager before… just pointing it out as wrong and that someone should fix it isn’t a solution.
@nhskibm if you don’t know the reference number. And only know that it looks like a watch on the internet and that is how you came up with the reference number it shouldn’t be in the listing as that reference number. It is misrepresenting the stopwatch you are selling. You are also misrepresenting that it is a Heuer watch from the 70’s which it is not. It is a Tag Heuer watch that would be from the earliest the late 80’s. It’s an easy fix have pcarmarket take out the reference number from the listing and change the watch brand to Tag Heuer.
@Splintz yes, I wrote “more like” as I can’t find the reference on the timer since it has worn away.
@nhskibm reference number 401.213 is also a Heuer stopwatch and not a tag Heuer stopwatch.
@Splintz I got a bunch of naked timers from a “porsche friend” in Europe when I was building my Gbody. So as I chose which ones fit the car and which didn’t I’ve been trying to figure out ref numbers. I thought I had provided and believe this one is more like ref 401.213 based on what I can find online.
Considering Heuer didn’t change over to Tag Heuer until 1985. How can this stopwatch be a 1970’s vintage Heuer stopwatch. Where did you get the reference number 701.313. Is the reference number physically on this watch. Because that reference number does correlate to a 70’s Heuer stopwatch.
