This 1970 Volkswagen Type 2 second-generation model features a unique double-cab pickup design with individual folding bedsides. The Truck was acquired by the seller's grandfather in 1973, it has been owned by the seller's family for 51 years. The vehicle is powered by a replacement air-cooled flat-four engine with a 1.9-liter displacement, dual EMPI carburetors, electronic ignition, and a merged header exhaust system with heater boxes. Finished in white over blue upholstery, this Type 2 pickup is now being offered for auction out of Utah.

Factory-specified in Lotus White (L282), this example has been refinished in white under the current ownership. It features a double cab configuration with chrome trim, pop-out front vent windows, black front bumper overriders, painted bumpers, and painted 15” steel wheels with chrome VW hubcaps. It rides on Yokohama tires mounted in 2015, with approximately 300 miles driven since. The seller notes minor rust and dent repairs, minor paint wear on the roof from storage, and minor surface rust on the floorboards in the back seat area and front driver and passenger areas. The bumpers and wheels were powder-coated a few years ago. Detailed images are provided in the gallery.

The cabin is outfitted with two rows of bench seating upholstered in blue cloth with matching vinyl sides, door panels, and carpeting. Features include shoulder belts, a two-spoke steering wheel, a glovebox, a passenger-side grab handle, roll-up windows, and a Sapphire XI push-button radio. The seller mentions that the dashboard is cracked, the headliner has tears, and rust is present on the rear floor. Additionally, the radio has power but does not produce sound, and the fuel gauge and sender unit are currently inoperable.

Power is provided by a replacement air-cooled flat-four engine, which has been enlarged to 1.9 liters using an (AE) AS41 dual-relief magnesium engine case. The vehicle is equipped with dual EMPI carburetors, electronic ignition, and a merged header exhaust system featuring a quiet pack muffler. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle. The seller mentions that the vehicle has been driven approximately 300 miles since the replacement engine was installed, and highlights that the wiring harness was replaced in 2023. An oil change was also recently completed in preparation for the sale. Additionally, visible corrosion is present on underbody components, and there are noted dents in the front pedal cover.

This sale will include a clean title.

The seller would like you to know: “The owner's family has maintained ownership of this vehicle for the past 51 years, starting when the owner's grandfather purchased the truck when it was just three years old. Initially used for transporting peaches to the local farmers market, the seller fondly recalls driving alongside their grandfather in this truck until the age of 16. At that point, ownership of the truck was passed down from grandfather to seller, who has cherished and maintained it ever since. The decision to sell the truck now comes as a result of needing to downsize.”

@edgy4sure haven’t had any issues with these carburetors. They’ve been great ever since they were installed haven’t touched them.

I had an old VW once and I loved that car - so much. I replaced the engine w/a 1641 and added dual carbs, lowered spindles - loved it. Problem was, keeping the carbs IN SYNC.

How has that been with this vehicle?
